That was one SB year but the bandwagon year was 1991.  They went 14-2 with a loss to the Cowboys and then to the Eagles in the last game of the year.  Rypien was the QB.  They brat beat the Bills in the SB.  Tony Kornheiser drove the entire bandwagon thingy via the Wash Post.

I remember that season too, specifically the final game of the season when we played them and Jeff Rutledge starting for Rypien and him getting sacked so hard that his facemask was badly bent. I think the Redskins were going for some record but we squelched that... I don't remember what it was though.

I would also give credit to Joe Gibbs. I hated the Redskins, but respected him as a coach. Same with Tom Landry. I still remember the commercial he did where he was surrounded by Redskins, an American Express commercial.

Gibbs might actually be the greatest coach of the 'modern' era - post-1980.   Three different Super Bowl victories... with 3 different QBs... the only downside is that 2 of the victories came in strike shortened seasons.   1 with Joe Theismann, 1 with Doug Williams, and 1 with Mark Rypien.   Not exactly Joe Montana, John Elway, etc.  Those guys were mostly journeymen.    Theismann is the exception... but he wasn't what he became under Gibbs, with Riggins, of course.

That was the only point that I could throw out to my brothers to try to minimize those Super Bowl wins lol... I still do to this day... it really annoys them. But hey, what are little brothers for... even if we're all in our 50's and 60's now? lol

Yeah... but the playoffs weren't shortened those years.   They earned those wins.

If they win tonight I can’t wait for Gardner Johnson to trash talk the entire team during the week and Slay to be like "That’s just CJ being CJ! Lolzzz”.

But in 1987, they had an easier time of it because Buddy refused to do any coaching and if I remember right, none of our players crossed the lines but I think some Redskins players did (not many, if I remember right).

That was the year that Landry played his starters vs. our scabs and beat us. Then the next time we played them that year we had our starters and beat them, but even though the game was all but over, Buddy wanted revenge and called for the fake kneel down and Randall threw downfield (to Byars I think), causing the Cowboys to commit PI and extend the game by a play which we turned into an extra "In your face" touchdown lol.

I loved it!

I know there's talk around trading or releasing Dak today but the Cowboys are pretty much stuck with him next year

It's hilarious to watch Cowboys fans talk themselves into eating $60 million in dead money when they are already over the cap and need to re-sign two of their best players.

It won't play here, but it will on YouTube, the ball was thrown to Quick but it was Byars that eventually scored the TD:

Yes, I was posting about this yesterday.   The way that contract is setup they basically have to give him a new deal this summer.

They really should have just broadcast it on both NBC and Peacock and put some commercials for Peacock into the NBC broadcast to market it. They shouldn't have changed the way they've done it during regular season.  A playoff game was a bad time to do it, it makes some fans want to protest against it.  Paramount+ does the same, airing the local CBS games on that service.  The way people consume media is changing.  Live sports is the main thing making people keep their cable/satellite bills.  Regular shows on network TV and cable are mostly garbage or can be watched on Hulu, but there's so much live sports if you have cable or satellite.

People are mad about Peacock but the NFL uses Amazon Prime Video for Thursday Night Games and not everyone has a prime account.  Everyone has accepted cable for years but lots of people (like me) cut the cord on cable years ago and don't get games on ESPN, or other sports that are on TBS, TNT, etc.  It's a transition period as they are testing out what will work in the future.

The positive to this is the potential for future services that you can stream games that you don't get locally.  The NFL knows people stream on illegal sites, and often the picture is bad or cuts out, the site times out and you have to refresh, there are a lot of ads to click and potential viruses plus you have to get on a laptop and hook it up to your TV.  The NFL should take advantage of this and work out where games can be streamed legally on services.  Whether that's pay per view or a package.  I really wish they would make a package where you can buy your team and watch every game of the season including playoffs no matter what service or channel it's on.  Modern fans have moved around the country, many fanbases have fans all over the country and the world.  Sunday Ticket doesn't even show all the games, it doesn't include night games or playoffs.  They need a full experience. Fans would pay for it.

Speaking for myself I have YouTube TV right now, it's going away the day after the Super Bowl. Technically it's fine, content wise aside from football it SUCKS! I've looked at their guide when there's no football on and don't see much at all. I might look at Sling, they're cheaper and they have local stations and national sports channels. Going from cable to YouTube TV saved me about $50/month, I can probably save another $20.

I either forgot or didn't realize 2 of those came in strike years...the NFC East ran the league for a while back in the day...

It's just a reality that has to be faced...find a way to get rid of him...short term hit for long term success, he has proven he cannot win in big games. I'm done with him. Yeh, he's got all the leverage, but F him.

DAL has another issue with the coaching situation as well, there will be a divide and some unhappy players if/when they let McCarthy go...cash your check and do your job...to bad you demand a refund.

It was the record for the fewest sacks given up in a season.  I remember it well.  We got two sacks and they didn't break the record.

Yeah, 1982 was shortened considerably with no games played during the strike. In 1987 the owners brought in scabs to replace the striking players. I think they only didn't play a game or two that season, but I think the Eagles were the only team, or maybe one of only a couple of teams that didn't have any players cross the lines.

Not to mention having the head coach side with the players and basically refuse to do any actual coaching during the scab games.
