I was instantly livid when the Eagles passed, then punted after consecutive 3rd and 2.  Line up and take the LOS, ffs.  They were running well early and abandoned it again.

Here we go:

Ravens win Super Bowl.

Eagles poach OC Todd Monken.

Thoughts?

Bo Wulf brought up a good point. You rarely see announcers trash coaches and Aikman was all over the Eagles coaching tonight. You know it had to have been really bad if Aikman was trashing it. And he had to have gotten it from somewhere other than watching the film. 99% of the time, color analysts make excuses for coaches in the broadcast no matter how bad they are.

It's not just Aikman.  Mannings were trashing our scheme also.  Anyone with a clue can see our offense is a total joke schematically.

I'm perpetually drunk and stoned and can tell these dudes are morons running the offense

Good to know, OTC has a confusing take on that.

I liked Denico Autry at the trade deadline, he’s a base end I’d prefer as a veteran depth signing - but BG would likely come cheaper.

Part OTC part Howie.  Howie use to do void year clauses with $0 base salaries but now does them with the vet min to allow for post June 1st cut designations. So if you see an obscenely low base on OTC click on the player and you’ll likely see a note like:

Quote

Brandon Graham signed a 1 year, $5 million contract with the Eagles. The contract is guaranteed. There are four effective void years for salary cap purposes but the contract is designed to allow for a post June 1 cut designation in 2024.

I would take a huge dump in my pants if Lamar Jackson wins a Super Bowl.  It will have to be like when Peyton Manning won his first in Indy — he plays terrible as usual in the playoffs, but their defense wins two games.  Finally he plays well in the Super Bowl

I’ve never seen an entire coaching staff get publicly clowned like ours did tonight - especially by the people who were doing so

Dude go back to our MNF game earlier this year and Peyton and Eli were both giving examples of our offensive styles, I think it was Eli covering our offense and his words were something like "The eagles are going to just run a simple route tree here” and it was almost as if Eli was saying, this looks like a high school football play from 1985. Just laughable.

While on offense I think the issue is coaching and a solid OC will fix things and get Hurts and team back on track...on defense it's a huge mess. There are pieces and obviously a team doesn't get rid of everyone.  What I would do with the roster on defense:

  1. Free agents to let walk: Cunningham, Justin Evans, Shaq Leonard, Roby
  2. Cut: Bradberry, Byard, Morrow, Maddox, Zech
  3. Get a starting DE whether in free agency or a high draft pick.
  4. Keep BG as a part-time rotational DE (unless he retires)
  5. Sign a LB (or 2) in free agency. They won't spend big, but competent starters along the lines of Kyzir White would be fine.
  6. Sign a decent safety (doubt Howie spends big)
  7. Draft: Safety, Corner, DE and LB however that shakes out with the BPA with their top picks.
  8. Corner: they might not be able to add someone if they spend $ and picks on other positions.  Slay and the young guys with upgrades at Safety, LB and DE and a proper DC coaching them can suffice.
  9. DT: let Cox go (I hate to see it) and spend his money elsewhere.  Major conditioning program for Jordan Davis.  With upgrades at DE and LB there won't be as much pressure on the DTs.  Carter will have a full offseason and be a stud player.  Yes, he regressed...so did most of the team with these bum coaches.

Not good enough.  Let’s Fargo this MFing thing up

I am having a very normal one and I didn’t even break dry January

I’m sure it is too soon to try to be rational, but I’m not in the "fire Nick” camp.

the other coordinators? Absolutely  especially on offense because they had the horses to be far better than they were  and coaching clearly has to make Hurts better

That defense though - they clearly didn’t have the horses - and probably also the coaching. Howie owns the abomination of the middle of the D.  He gambled on the O carrying this team this season as they transitioned and they didn’t.

yeah, Nick owns his share and has a very short leash but I don’t think he should be gone.

Siriani won't be allowed in the facility come Tuesday

I'm praying you're right.

Hopefully facilities has already disabled his badge

The Eagles are going to fire Sirianni, but no one else, because they need to see if Brian Johnson gets hired first so they can get the draft picks.

Same.  Both sides of the ball are morons.  Teams are killing you with short passes but you continue with a 5 man front dropping DEs into coverage.

I can accept if we aren't good enough but to see talent wasted on offense and a defense that can't do anything right points directly to coaching.  I am all for cleaning house.

Why do you think Nick shouldn't be fired and what do you think he does well?

If this doesn't open the eyes of the higher ups I just don't know what will

"Do you want Nick back?"

"I didn't know he was going anywhere."

Wasn't exactly a yes answer.

I know it's popular to hate on Hurts, but the reality is he played great last year and despite what some of you refuse to see, he did play well at times this year.  He also had some stupid, boneheaded plays and looked lost a lot.  Then the next series he'd make a huge play.  It's erratic.  There are other players who regressed, a lot of them did.  The coaching is the main problem.  You have a big contract to Hurts and it's very hard to replace and find a new QB.  There is a lot of talent on the offensive roster.

The best course is to get a new coaching staff - at minimum new OC if they don't fire Siri - and rebuild the offense around the team's strengths.  Don't waste the opportunity of a strong O line and 3 great receiving talents in Brown, Smith and Goedert.  They need to learn from 2022 and get a good offensive mind in here to run things.

Then you can see how Hurts does under proper coaching.

He was at the time, the highest paid QB in the league. That brings expectations and raises the bar.

They are not going to fire Sirianni. Hopefully they can hire an OC with the understanding he gets the title later afrer Johnson is hopefully hired elsewhere. I give that about 1 week and when he doesnt land a job he can go too.

Interesting point, haven't thought about that, but would be the logical move.

This is actually important, because a couple years ago there were SEVERAL game broadcasts that the announcers completely roasted Howie's drafting. They went on and on about it, that he hadn't drafted Pro Bowl/All Pro players in a long time, called out draft busts and put up stats with graphics on screen and not just some quick comments.  Lurie had to have seen that and then next thing you know they're drafting from championship and top pro ready colleges.

A lot of national figures were roasting the Eagles coaches tonight on Twitter and the broadcast.  The national stage saw what we've seen over 7 weeks.
