When did I ever say "don't need"? All I implied was Nick has a good source to do their due diligence and figure out one way or the other if he's a good pickup.

That was a joke meant to bring out the dude who wanted VanSumDude to cover Kelce:)

Oh, well in that case after his stellar performance last night, it's undeniable we are set for decades.

One look at that site and I can tell its horrible and likely can guess the type of media company that developed it for them...

Desai should be commended for his play calling last night.  Other than maybe 2 Chiefs drives the play calling on defense was spectacular.

Agree.  Defense balled out. However, what's the excuse for the run defense? They looked downright bad at times.

ever since the Dolphins made him cry, the name Darius has been frowned upon in the NFL.

Their defense is bad. They have a great offensive line, but no other aspect of their team stands out to me as all that special.

They're 10th in DVOA defense. 5th in DVOA offense.

One of the better IOL in the league and I'm sure they didn't care if Pacheco got his and celebrated after every 4 yard run if it meant keeping Kelce and Mahomes in check.

My guess...their coverage schemes to eliminate Kelce may have weakened some of their gap integrity.  Also, when looking at replays I saw two big runs where Reddick and then Sweat lost their edges by cutting inside.  In the end, I would happily trade an extra 50 yards of rushing yards to keep Mahomes and Kelce from taking over the game.

True. I didn't think it was possible for so many players to raise my level of annoyance levels last night but many did so.

The splits are very different since they lost Milano/White/Jones.

The Lions were not a 'really good team' last year.  They were an ascending team, but even as so, didn't even get into the playoff tournament.  Hard to define them as really good while 7 other teams make the playoffs over them, including a 9-8 team.

Agreed.  We haven't really had a super big impressive road win over the last two years until last night.

Shows you unreliable DVOA is as a metric. I watch them a lot and they haven't passed my eye test. Saw several games this season where teams went up and down the field on them all game. I'll take the Eagles D over theirs any day of the week. The Eagles defense hasn't been great this year, but the DL is ruthless and they've gotten big performances against really good offenses. Something the Lions defense can't say they've done.

We're talking about the Lions, not the BIlls

They're 9th in yards allowed, and were ahead of us in pts allowed until this weekend. Not trying to say they're a great defense by any stretch, but they've improved quite a bit since last year and are a tough front to run against.

I don't really believe that all positions simply require the athletics to be right to make it work consistently

However, I actually felt like a Fullback at least so we could use them as a lead made sense, I mentioned it earlier today. And I was unaware that VanSumeran played Fullback (I knew nothing about him really) - and I think that's much less of a pipe dream than the Nolan Smith route. You at least want experience at the collegiate level, and you don't want it to be from someone who actually has strong value elsewhere on the football team.

Fullbacks have been devalued to the point where they don't follow the normal football approach anymore. You can get them anywhere, it's just about identifying the talent. And they probably don't need to be 250 like they used to be because a lot of positions, including the linebackers they're usually trying to get to, have also gotten lighter. Not a bad idea, unlikely though.

But if you literally already have the person in a different roster spot, especially if they're also already active on Special Teams, doesn't hurt at all.

I agree with almost everything you're saying.  Some of the things I was saying I don't think I phrased right.

"the athletics to be right"  = ceiling.   Most teams want the player to have a position, and then to be able to do everything they want the player at that position to do.  I'm looking for someone to do the one thing.

The Eagles are without a Fullback. Or a big running back.   For most of what the Eagles do,  they can do fine without a Fullback or a big running back.   But when it comes to the 4th Q, and all they want to do is gain 10 yards every 3 or 4 yards, slowly, staying in bounds,  running out the clock,  that's when they don't have a player who they use to either block or run, while being big.  I really think the Eagles should look at their roster and figure out who they can temporarily, for one long drive at the end of the game, put in the backfield, to play an unnamed position with no specific duties except be big, and block or run.

I like and agree with the thinking about giving the big 4 Q run and block job to a player who isn't busy.  Nolan Smith isn't busy,  but VanSumeren is even less busy.

I'd also say that in that 4 Q and run situation,  the Eagles could put a lot of big guys out there.   Let's say VanSumeren, who can carry,  and OL or DL who have less experience at carrying and more experience with blocking.

About Fullbacks,   they're hard to find.  It's hard to find big running backs, 230+.   Patrick Ricard, Ravens pro bowl FB 300 pounds,  didn't play offense at any level until the NFL. DT.  I don't think that VanSumeren Wolverines Fullback to Eagles Fullback is a stretch at all.   And I like that the Big Rb / FB / overall bigger player spot is filled by someone who didn't cost a draft pick.   There, we filled our BIG spot with a guy we got for free.  Good.

With the game IN Dallas, I didn't think it would and am counting on Dallas doing the right thing for once.  :P    That's a crazy stretch for the Lions... Vikings, Cowboys, Vikings.   .   Schedule makers having a good laugh at that one.
