Why on earth was shaq leonard released? Go howie

I don't think anyone picks him up on the waiver wire because of his contract unless the team that picks him up doesn't owe him much.  So if he hits FA I think he will come here

The ST really showed up last night. Toney loves playing against us, but that tackle made it soooo hard on KC.

Yes THAT time he actually made the tackle, a bunch of other times he whiffed and Toney got away.   Personally, I'd preferred he broke down and made a 'form' tackle.   That would have eliminated many of the returns by Toney, because the Eagles were there... but they just flew by him.

I thought vets with more than 4 accrued seasons are not subject to waivers if they are released.

I believe that's only before the trade deadline.  I think after the trade deadline, everyone is subject to waivers.

Cam being back seemed to have upped his yards per carry again.

Yup. Not sure if that had more to do with cam or just better run play calls.

I don't think their schedule is as a walk in the park as everyone else thinks. They had no business winning that game against Chicago on Sunday. They're definitely fallible. Their divisional games remaining won't be a walk in the park, they have to play in New Orleans, Denver has a good defense, and then finish up against Dallas. I don't think they're getting through to that Dallas game unscathed.

The games against the Vikings are difficult as well.

I'd rather watch Texans-Broncos. Dumb flex.

The Panthers are unwatchable.  Stroud is entertaining and the Broncos are on a 5 game winning streak.

It’s kinda funny how a great individual play by Roby to punch the ball out and MVS dropping a long TD where they schemed up the exact matchup they want really skews our perception.

Nah.

Desai, for the most part, put  the defense in positions to succeed.  Even the 2nd drive by the Chiefs was mostly due to missed tackles and missed assignments by the players.  And the refs certainly helped the Chiefs in the 2nd half with a myriad of ticky tack calls.

And I won’t even get into how Desai was able to shutdown the best TE in football almost all night - when the majority of the blog (and fans) had predicted Kelce was going to destroy us.

Defensive scheming (and overall defensive play) was spot on last night and the main reason we won the game.

Were we lucky on the two missed catches towards the end of the game?  Maybe/Maybe not. The fact is that the Chiefs WR’s have the most dropped passes out of all NFL teams.  How much is that luck vs what could be expected?

Agree.  Defense balled out. However, what's the excuse for the run defense? They looked downright bad at times.

They caught the Eagles losing contain with some designed cut back runs on the big ones. Clearly saw something on tape to get their guys to the edges.

Eagles don't even have enough cap space to put in a claim, and they would have to absorb his current contract before restructuring. Only about half the league can afford it. 49ers ($40M), Browns ($35M), Cowboys ($11M), Seahawks ($8M) are the only teams with the space in the hunt for the post season.

If he gets to the Eagles, no claim is necessary... because he'd have not been claimed by anyone else and so a free agent.

If by better run play calls you mean better blocking and guys not wiffing on their assignments, yes.

Yea but "whose going to lose in the wildcard round" is apparently a better NFL story line than a young rookie QB playing out of his mind against a team that recently knocked off the Chiefs and Bills.

Run D gave up 4 ‘long’ runs. Outside of that they shut down the run game.

I agree with almost everything you're saying.  Some of the things I was saying I don't think I phrased right.

"the athletics to be right"  = ceiling.   Most teams want the player to have a position, and then to be able to do everything they want the player at that position to do.  I'm looking for someone to do the one thing.

The Eagles are without a Fullback. Or a big running back.   For most of what the Eagles do,  they can do fine without a Fullback or a big running back.   But when it comes to the 4th Q, and all they want to do is gain 10 yards every 3 or 4 yards, slowly, staying in bounds,  running out the clock,  that's when they don't have a player who they use to either block or run, while being big.  I really think the Eagles should look at their roster and figure out who they can temporarily, for one long drive at the end of the game, put in the backfield, to play an unnamed position with no specific duties except be big, and block or run.

I like and agree with the thinking about giving the big 4 Q run and block job to a player who isn't busy.  Nolan Smith isn't busy,  but VanSumeren is even less busy.

I'd also say that in that 4 Q and run situation,  the Eagles could put a lot of big guys out there.   Let's say VanSumeren, who can carry,  and OL or DL who have less experience at carrying and more experience with blocking.

About Fullbacks,   they're hard to find.  It's hard to find big running backs, 230+.   Patrick Ricard, Ravens pro bowl FB 300 pounds,  didn't play offense at any level until the NFL. DT.  I don't think that VanSumeren Wolverines Fullback to Eagles Fullback is a stretch at all.   And I like that the Big Rb / FB / overall bigger player spot is filled by someone who didn't cost a draft pick.   There, we filled our BIG spot with a guy we got for free.  Good.

Oh look didn't even need this LB who got benched at MSU to cover Kelce, but I see you are already pivoting back to Fullback.

Depends. You are assuming they can just sign him if they want him, which may turn out to be the case. But you are risking other teams getting involved. In this particular case given his salary, it would make sense to not claim him and take that risk.

Either way, he's not going to get claimed by the Eagles.

KC’s ability to run the ball effectively early was a bit disturbing - but either they played JD more, Fletch less or the LBs got their fits right because the crisis abated through the 2nd half. Hats off to Reed for backstopping for an unusually porous run defense.

Byard/morrow seemed to spy a lot on the middle of the field. The run game really wasn’t all that effective. They ripped off a few nice runs for sure but outside of that they really kept it reasonable with pretty much the DL being the only line of defense against the run all game.

You are more right than wrong but I always like a gunner to take the big swing and at least make the runner pause.  Everyone else can break down.

A suddenly hot Broncos vs Stroud?  Nah, no one wants to see that.

It’s not the flex they think

I can’t believe Pacheco fell to the 7th round. Outside of the obvious top backs, he’d be my dream player to pair with Swift. Him or Dameon Pierce.
