Lol. I didn’t notice this live. Both safeties covered Kelce. That has to be a bust.

Mahomes said it in the presser. Eagles tripled Kelce lol

That's a very NCAA outlook, as I see it.  NCAA, there are benefits to teams in your conference doing well in bowl games, etc.   But, not so much in the NFL.   I get the logic of it... but I can't get behind it.   I look at teams in the same division as the Eagles about the same way that Ohio State fans look at Michigan (and vice versa).  I don't believe I've ever heard of an OSU fan pulling for Michigan... ever.  (and vice versa).  Your outlook almost aligns with the Service Academies.... I truly believe that Army and Navy actually pull for each other in every contest the other is involved in... except for one.  And then its all, "Go Army, Beat Navy", and vice versa.   But, even then, I don't think there's ever any true animosity like there is for UM and OSU.  There is literal hate for some folks on both sides of that one...  not so much (or even at all) with the Academies.

That is a fair assessment, but I fall into the same pattern as Joe … with the exception of the Giants (and the Yankees in baseball).

There's a lot to unpack here. Spagnuolo had some clever blitzes dialed up on the first half. He ran games with the DL and delayed blitzers, particularly on Lane's side. Stout made adjustments and there were no sacks in the second half. None. Coaching. I'll try to put something together when the All-22 comes out.

There is a reason the Eagles consistently wait until 1-2 seconds are left on the play clock - with so little time, defenses have to show themselves. It gives Kelce and Hurts time to read the defense.

Kelce helped Dickerson more than he should have and Jurgens less than he should have, IMHO. When Jones gets a clean shoulder, it's over unless you have help.

One pattern I noticed in the first half was that the KC player name the announcers said was putting the pressure on Hurts was almost always different (other than Jones).  That told me that Spsgs was doing a superb job In disguising what he was doing from snap to snap, and varying what he was scheming up.  Stout figured it out though.

I can get behind what you are saying being a Marine myself...but I can't hate a team and fanbase, it's just not in me. I am competitive, but I can't hate a team or fanbase over a game.

You haven't met enough Cowboy fans.

I lived in Dallas from 1989 through 1996 and what my experience over that time there told me was that native Texans and imports to Texas were worlds apart … in almost everything, but especially in sports.  I met a lot of folks like Joe Ball and I avoided the imports like the plague.  One of my good native Dallas friends used to say "I get a nose bleed if I go north of Northwest Highway.”

Absolutely. You can have all the arm talent in the world but you don't have the intangibles you will not be successful. Leadership, winner attitude, calmness under pressure. Cannot be taught. You either have it or you don't.

It is great to see new faces appearing in the Blog.  Welcome!  We look forward to hearing from you often.

Disagree about early 2022. The Eagles opponents at the beginning of the year were consistently hitting devastating punts with enormous hangtimes. (I have the data but I'm too lazy to look it up.) The fact that he wasn't getting notable returns was not because of a deficiency in his play, but rather because he simply had almost no room to do anything. It wasn't until the second half of the year that other teams punters returned to normalcy.

If one goes to this post in the Special Teams Blog

and then goes forward game by game, here is what you find:

Game One — Jack Fox punted four times for the Lions with an average of about 46.3 yards and 5.02 hangtime. All four of his punts were over 4.5 seconds including two which were considerably over 5.0 seconds. Two of the four were hit outside the numbers.

Game Two — Ryan Wright had a strong game for the Vikings. He averaged about 47.8 yards and 4.88 hangtime on his five punts, with four of them reaching the 4.5 second mark and all five being hit outside the numbers.

Game Three — Tress Way punted eight time for the teamformerlyknownastheRedskins. He averaged about 52.6 yards and 4.54 hangtime, with five at 4.5 seconds or more and five hit outside the numbers.

Game Four — Logan Cooke punted three times for the Wires, all from pretty deep in his own territory so that he had a lot of room to boom the ball. He averaged about 48.3 yards with 4.36 hangtime. One was over 4.5 seconds. Two were hit outside the numbers.

Game Five — Veteran Andy Lee punted four times for the Cardinals. He averaged about 49.3 yards and 4.62 hangtime with three reaching 4.5 seconds and three hitting outside the numbers.

Game Six — Bryan Anger only punted two times -- on their first two possessions I should note -- with an amazing average of 56.0 yards and 4.82 hangtime. Both were above 4.5 seconds and both were hit outside the numbers.

Game Seven — Pressley Harvin, who reportedly had been struggling, punted four times for the Steelers with an average of about 45.0 yards and a very strong 5.05 hangtime. Opposing punters this year just have monster games against us. I guess we should just accept this as a fact and move on. All four had a hangtime of at least 4.5 seconds. Three of the four were hit outside the numbers.

Game Eight — Opposing punters are averaging about 49.3 yards and 4.74 hangtime with 71% at 4.5 seconds and 71% hit outside the numbers. Basically opposing punters are doing legendary work every week. And since Washington has the best punter in football, this will probably continue for at least one more week.

Game Nine — Tress Way only had two official punts but actually punted three times. His three punts averaged about 44.7 yards with 4.27 hangtime. One had a hangtime of at least 4.5 seconds. None were hit outside the numbers. I guess they had no concerns about hitting the ball to the middle of the field.

I always thought this was the norm really, but things have changed over the years I guess. How someone develops a following for a team across the country from where they grew up makes zero sense to me, I mean if you are a true fan, how did that fanatacism develop? To each their own I guess. Maybe free agency has something to do with it, idk.

My belief is that it is "front running”. A certain breed of fans only cares about winning, and therefore they pick the current front runner as "their team”

Byard had the big INT in the endzone, but WHAT IN THE WORLD is he doing on that play?

Who knows?  Looked like everybody else was in man and maybe he thought it was zone.  He just stood there looking at Mahomes

He also DID fumble the ball on a couple of occasions, iirc.   One went OOB, and he recovered one himself, I think.   But he wasn't super sure handed back there, which to me is assignment #1 for the PR.

That too was blown out of proportion.  I was at the game in Washington where his first fumble occurred.  That was a typical rookie judgment error in playing a wind-driven ball.  He should have let the ball bounce out of bounds … where the gusting wind was taking it.  Instead he tried desperately to get under it and catch it, which he wasn’t able to do.  It was a bit like Hurts holding the ball too long and taking a sack rather than throwing the ball out of bounds … more a mental error than a physical error.  Covey wouldn’t make that mental error now.

You hastily inferred that I suggested he was a deficient punt returner.  I did no such thing.

Was he an asset in early 2022?  Yes or No?  You seem to make a pretty clear argument for No.

Actually I would definitely call him an asset in those games.  He fielded the punts … avoiding what Franklin calls "hidden yardage.”

Chiefs are absolutely better IMO especially on the defensive side of the ball. Their WRs are about as talented as they were last year. Not very. Mahomes is still the best in the league.

Speaking of Andy Reid WRs, Todd Pinkston is the Chiefs’ Running Backs coach.

Does he not have space for a league minimum contract?

Depending on what Leonard is willing to sign for, his salary and Elliss’ salary might be pretty much of a wash.  Leonard is getting paid by the Colts for all 17 games regardless, so he will see anything he gets paid by a new team as "found money.”

Mesquite? (US 80) or Rose Hill (I 30)? Wife has family in Wylie.  I am in East Texas at least four times a year.  Growing up in Houston as an Oilers fan, hate for your team is in my DNA.  When I moved to the east Coast, it was natural for me to live in PA, where football is almost as much revered as in Texas and becoming a Birds fan when the turncoat Bud Adams stole the Oilers away to TN was pretty much a given as they feel about your team pretty much the same way.  (We probably hate the giants as much as you do.)

Mesquite seemed a bit less than 30 minutes.  My guess was Terrell.

Yeah overall that was the game plan but there's a zero percent chance they decided to risk a go ahead wide open bomb with less than 2 min to go.

I think it was Ricks and he got caught flat footed and got roasted.

It was Roby, not Ricks.

I don’t think Julio has anything at all left in the tank.  I wonder how many of the offense’s struggles last night stemmed from only having to account for a RB and 2 WRS.

The "black lining in a silver cloud” take.

I go through Rockwall a bunch. Father in law lives outside of Paris so I get back to I30 south of that speed trap, Commerce.  I like Landon Winery in Greenville (also in Wylie near my wife’s family) which is rarely crowded.  Good bourbon barrel Cab.

Lots of friends are Texan fans. Ryan is doing a nice job there. Picked the right QB.

My wife’s name is Landon.  I’ve even thinking about getting one of their wines for her for Christmas.  How are their whites.

Got her a Kelly Green for her birthday.

I think the WR screen to Jones was Goedert’s.  Peyton even suggested the same.  BTW, utter bliss to watch the Eagles on Monday night without muting the game to avoid Buck and brain dead.  Enjoyed the simulcast.

Scott had seven snaps and made the most of them. There was one play where he was in pass pro and not waiting for the blitzer to come to him, went and attacked him at the LOS and not only got the block but sealed that gap as well.

How did the simulcast work?

I think you and others are trying to argue two things.

1) Make the Chiefs beat you with someone other than Kelce. I wholeheartedly agree with that plan.

2) That it wasn’t luck that he stopped a wide open pass. It was. We were incredibly fortunate.

Luck and being incredibly fortunate are two very different and independent things.  It was a calculated risk … pure and simple.

Man, he really is the Travis Kelce of coaches. If he wasn't the Eagles coach, he'd be very high up on punchable faces. With that being said, glad he's on our side!

That is what the posters on Cowboys Zone were saying consistently … a very punchable face.
