My one request for the Eagles this week. Let the 49ers yap and talk. Don't say anything you don't need to. The Eagles are already in their heads. Let that all simmer.

Davis was a little banged up. I'm sure we will get the injury report soon

BJ can continue to hold the clipboard.  Maybe.

I still think the Brian Johnson criticism is a little over the top. He has his issues and there are critiques to be made about him, but he was pretty much flawless in the second half yesterday. And orchestrated a game-winning drive in OT. He's fixed the red zone issues everyone harped on from earlier in the year and when the offense is clicking, it's efficient.

There is also a positive to him not being a perfect OC either. He won't be leaving for a HC job in the offseason and it looks like Hurts will get at least three seasons of consistency at the OC position which is important for his continued growth. I'm tired of the brain drain that we see at the coordinator position almost every year. The same thing can be said for Desai. Not perfect, but good enough to learn and grow and he'll be here for some time. It's a selfish thing to say because I wouldn't wish a guy to not reach his dream and not get a HC job, but the reality is they're not good enough coordinators right now to get a job and they'll continue to grow here for the next 3+ seasons.

We have an owner who is obsessed with the passing game and the analytics behind it. He questioned Doug after running t he ball with amazing success in a win against Green Bay.

We will always be a pass to get the lead and run to salt the game away team. That comes from the top.

Remember the line about the Panthers having a 'meddlesome' owner... and the Colts' owner being a laughingstock... and we laugh at Jerruh because of his meddlesome tendencies...

Lurie needs to stop with this mandate of being a passing offense and just enjoy the ride.   We won the Super Bowl, in large degree, because we had a dominant running game that they could lean on in 2017 and could just beat up anybody we wanted to with Blunt and Ajayi.  Jeff has done a lot of good things with this team, but this overarching theme of NEEDING to be a passing team, in the northeast, is just silly and futile.   To quote Herman Edwards, "You play to win the game."   And we should try to remember that there's no bonus for 'style points'.  Wins are all that matter... not if you are a top 5 passing offense or not.

Think it’s more he was forced to play a ridiculous total of snaps.

Flip is an interesting one. He isn’t even in the league anymore. Crazy to look back at 2017 and see how some of the careers turned out.

I know.  But there had to be a reason for the secret sauce of Pederson, Reich, DeFillipo, Wentz...  Was 2017 just a complete fluke, or was there something about those 4 together, that while they may not have all gotten along perfectly... (rumors were that DeFillipo and Wentz didn't always see eye to eye).... but it just worked to near perfection.

Part of this goes into the "return on investment" philosophy with the deal they gave Hurts. In Lurie's mind, he didn't give him $250 million to hand the ball off 20+ times, even if that might be the best thing for this offense. It probably should be the philosophy, which is what worked in the second half yesterday with Swift getting five yards a clip on first down runs, but he wont' change that mindset.

Agreed.  The less the Eagles say, the more it will irritate the 49ers.  Let them get overhyped and maybe they will actually exhaust themselves before the game even starts.

Romo's "That was a horsecollar" and "That was a catch" were two of the worst real time takes in quite some time.

Man, they loved them some Bill's last night.  I was at a bar and when they turned off game sound and started playing music the game became much more enjoyable to watch.

This makes me appreciate Lurie. Reich was given a QB he didn't want. The one he wanted is playing out of this world. Then he isn't even given a full season? Seriously? Their owner goes through a coach on average every two years. Nobody is going to want that job.

Dunno if I can take much more of this. This old heart of mine.

UM beats OSU on Saturday, with thanks to Ryan Day, and the Eagles beat the Bills, on a day when the Bills played their best.

Both wore me out.

Keep ‘em coming.

That's the kicker. We've all discussed that the Eagles are playing C level football and haven't come close to putting together a complete game. On the flipside, they are beating these teams that are throwing everything they can at them. Josh Allen has been a shadow of his MVP level self this year and all of the sudden, he can't be stopped against the Eagles. Dak and CeeDee put on a show against the Eagles. Sam Howell played like Tom Brady in both games against the Eagles. Yet the Eagles keep winning while not even coming close to their full ability.

Right now the Eagles are a V8 running on 5 cylinders and they are some how beating twin turbo v6s.

A lot of criticism of the OC even though the offense is scoring only one point less per game than last season, even though we are turning the ball over 50% more often.

That's the mindset we want from the Eagles.   BUT... I don't want anything written about it.   Just quietly go about your business and let the talk happen with your play on the field.   As Reddick said, Talk IS cheap, and that goes both ways.   Don't say anything.  Let the talking happen between the white lines and just beat them up again.

Just getting to this as I make my way through the last few pages. Same thing I said but you beat me to it. Let them talk.

I brought the same thing up yesterday. It is who they are from a philosophical organizational belief. It’s not changing. It’s also part of the reason why the eagles got themselves into the hole they have the past couple weeks. It’s because the passing game early in games hasnt looked good and against Dallas late it was bad (combo with play calling trying to run the clock out).

The other issue is I think teams are going above and beyond to take away AJ Brown and forced you to have to beat them with your other guys. with goedert out we lack an ideal third option and a guy who feasts on the middle of the field so it opens things up for brown, swift and smith.  Smith is good enough to carry us for stretches. And swift if you get him on screens can do it for stretches.  But everybody else I don’t think it’s good enough right now to sustain aj brown not putting up aj brown type numbers. It’s why i think there’s been a lull for portions of games.

The 'return on investment' comes in wins... and Super Bowls, not run-pass ratio.

Optimum in the NFL remains somewhere in the 45:55 range...   too far to one side either way usually leads to trouble.  While you may want to score through the passing game early (That's a classic Jaws line, 'points come through the passing game.')   I agree.  BUT... a successful running game opens up the passing game.  They work together.

I don’t disagree with that, I just don’t know if Luries sees it the same way. His philosophy has always been pass to get the lead, run to protect it. But that’s not how every game goes and you have to adjust. I think he struggles admitting that.

Tons of dumb articles about the "missed" horse collar penalty and citing the ripping of the jersey which isn't illegal at all because Reddick pulled from the front of the jersey. He might have got his hand in his shoulder pads with his right arm afterwards but Allen was already going down at that point so it's a weird grey area.

46 minutes ago, Iggles_Phan said:

Which is exactly what we said in here as it happened live.

I think the proper term for that tackle is that Reddick straight up rag dolled Allen. End of story. No penalty. Football is still an intense, physical game where strength wins. Reddick threw 6-5 240 like it was nothing.

I think both of them will be gone by 2025. It’s easy for us to see their flaws, but the bottom line is they’re both coordinators for the best team in the NFL. Someone will give them a chance unless the team has a major regression next season.

Yes... I make that call.   He can be a consultant for the remainder of the season and help BJ out with the issues he's been having with the first half.   I don't know if he'd want to do that this season... but I absolutely make the phone call.

The next team that hires him has the chance of a lifetime to call his hiring the 3rd Reich.

I don’t think the SF game is going to be close.  Not a blowout, but not close.  Either the Eagles finally flex their complete game (against SF no less) or they have their typical bad 1st half and never wrestle their way back in during the 2nd half.

I don’t have a feel for which it will be, but I think Sunday the Eagles will deliver their first non nail biter game in a long time.

There seems to be something about making the Niners play from behind. I believe the Eagles must not get off to a slow start on offense. I also am concerned about yesterday's defensive snap counts possibly putting them at a disadvantage as well. I am hoping for rest and light practices this week.

Eagles are way too beaten up to fight back like they have against the 49ers.  They can't afford a stumble in the first half like they have been experiencing... then again, I didn't think they could afford it against the Chiefs or Bills either.

I would love to see them finally put it together.  I know the 49ers have had this game circled on their schedule, but I think the Eagles have too... Reddick sort of alluded to the fact that they've been hearing all the chirping from SF.  I think the Eagles intend to show that last year's playoff game was no fluke... nor any kind of weird occurrence and that with Purdy healthy or not, they were going to win that game.     I could be wrong, but I think that they have quietly been focusing on this game for a while, hopefully that comes to fruition and the real Eagles finally show up and take care of business from the opening kickoff.   I'd love a double digit win...  I just don't see it playing out that way though.

These three comments sum up my thinking perfectly.  aptos is correct about the Niners.  They are a front running team … both in being able to build on their own lead when they get one, and not being good at playing from behind.  Purdy has been very good at taking care of the ball.  In all the positive aspects of the expression "game manager” he is a very good game manager.  He gets the ball out quickly, but he also has shown considerable elusiveness when under pressure.  The maturation of Aiyuk as a WR threat this year has been the second most important change from the Niners we saw in the NFCCG, with Purdy’s comeback from surgery being the most important.

We definitely can win this game, but only if we do as the comments above suggest.

You build the team to do just that... but then if the running game is working better, you ride it for a while.

And coming into this game, in bad weather, with Driscoll being thrown in cold... help him out by letting him run block to start the game and get into the flow before jumping in the deep end of the pool immediately.

Last year we had teams blown out by half time and we would just run the ball and run out the clock. This year we have a ton of drives saved by the tush push, and have to continuously come back in historic fashion. Ignore the stats. Use your eyeballs. The offense has regressed.
