Kempski had a stat that the Niners had 11 PDs and we had 1 (Davis tipping the ball at the line). I’m not sure how accurate that is because Blankenship broke up a pass over the middle to Aiyuk.

Still, that shows the stark difference in how covered vs how they did. San Fran had players wide open all day. Slay looked absolutely petrified of Aiyuk with how much cushion he gave him.

Brown had a coverage bust on Kittle’s long catch and run. Ellis was lost whenever he dropped back. Ricks was toast. It looked like Morrow’s controlled lagged on that wheel to CMC. Just awful stuff all around. Maybe Bradberry was the only one who didn’t wet himself out there.

ESPN box score agrees with Kempski. I pointed it out earlier. We had 1 PD which was a defensive lineman the first play of the game. 0 from the secondary or LBs all game long.

So maybe Reed had 1. That would be it.

Looks like a whole lot of illegal man down field and on the same play Reed needs the rape kit.

Our RBs averaged 2.5, 2.2 and 2.0 on a combined 9 carries. We have to give Johnson a reason to call them.

One will pop. Gotta keep calling them.

They threw the ball on first down 80% of the time today. Even before it got out of hand. It was 20 pass plays and 5 called runs with RBs, their pass plays on first down weren’t exactly killing it either. Again, it is really hard to get your running game going if you never get into any sort of rhythm. Literally really hard if you run the ball 1 time over the span of a quarter.

you think it’s gonna look good when you have one rushing attempt every 12-15 mins? I will say this the Niners didn’t run the ball great to start the game. They had 4 rushes for 7 yards. But you know what they did? They stuck with it and eventually it got into a rhythm and wore the other team down. The Eagles don’t do that. Eagles actually were better rushing to start than the niners. Had 13 yards on 4 carries. Ran once more at the end of the 1st and then didn’t run it with a RB again until 30 seconds left in the half and that’s cause they nearly threw a pick

Tbh, it always seems like when they decide to run the ball, that's what kills their drives. Remember the beginning of the season when their red zone offense was awful for the first few weeks? They kept trying to run it in the red zone and it didn't work. Then they started throwing more and their red zone offense over the last 2 months became one of the best in the NFL.

I don't disagree that they could run more and try it, but I'm saying I don't think it'll work. I think this running game is just broken.

Sounds identical to the Super Bowl. Except SF did it for 3 entire quarters instead of just a half.

Most random thing I saw today at the complex. A dude in a PERRY HARRINGTON jersey walking into the stadium. I asked him about it and he told me I'll never find another. He said Harrington himself handed it to him walking off the field at a game forty years ago.

For those who don't know, Harrington was a running back the Eagles drafted in the second round one year who was sort of a bust.

I congratulated 49ers fans after the game about "winning the Super Bowl in December." I'm not sure they understood I was actually mocking them for their overzealous celebration of a regular season game.

It’s an eagles want a fangio type defense thing and this is how that system is played. That’s a philosophical approach to defense. It’s shown against better offenses with the eagles over two years to really not work unless your pass rush just absolutely wrecks the game.

the need LBs for this defense to work. Last year they went and got one. This year they let their LBs walk as free agents. With an LB or 2 this front 7 fangio stuff works.

The frustrating issue is that we can never match a secondary to our front 7.

We have had man coverage with DLs who couldnt rush the passer consistently. So the CBs end up betting beat because they had to cover too long. Now, the past 2 years are opposite. We have really good DL pressure, but the secondary is in some pathetic soft zones that dont work.

I dont know why its so hard to get someone with common sense who would play physical coverage with an elite DL to take away the quick passing game and make a QB really have to contend with that D-line of ours.

It just makes no sense. Year after year they never match up the front with the back.

how do you know this?   what we know is that Ricks does not have the physical capabilities of Ringo.  Ricks was seen as more pro ready.  And what is likely to happen is that Ringo gets better and Ricks doesn't, because he's near his physical ceiling.

RAS compare at CB - Ringo v Ricks

https://ras.football/ras-compare/?&p1=19977&p2=20017&pos=CB

Ringo ran 4.36 40 at 207
Ricks ran 4.60 40 at 188

I think Ricks would look amazing in Detroit, Dallas or Cleveland where they run some coverages where their DBs can match a WR from the LoS and use his length to compete at the catch point.

here he is forced to play 2 in front of  the WR and they keep putting him in the slot.

The difference last year was we had 55+ sacks and seemed to be able to get to the QB. This year we play so soft that there’s not even time for the rush to impact the QB. We have got to get hands on receivers to have any chance at stopping an NFL offense. You can just sit back with your hands in your pockets playing sticks coverage every play. It’s literally impossible for a DB to guess right every time lol. You can run a cover 4 shell and be more aggressive. You can call smarter and more efficient blitzes and coverage behind. He’s just not good at anything. It just seems like he has no blame somehow? It’s the players… well that’s what the coach wants… well injuries. What’s he done well? Watch Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter blow up the run game, what else?

I’m sorry Edwards and white are light years better than what we have at linebacker. We also  downgraded at both safety positions. This defense isn’t nearly as talented as last year especially when you factor in slay and bradberry both have regressed.

Really hard to be a good defense with an over the hill slot corner, bad linebackers and below average safeties. And old corners who taken a step back.

Im not saying desai is absolved of blame, but this defense is way worse in terms of talent. I’d say there’s 3 guys out there right now who have no business starting: morrow, Ellis, Roby. And I’d argue safeties who are significant downgrades from last year.

Fire desai.  you know what’s gonna happen? still gonna bring it another fangio coordinator. You’re gonna run the same crap. They’re gonna have the same Fing problems because they don’t have enough talent run it affectively.

Can you explain to me what Linebacker in the universe can cover 1-2 guys crossing his face and one more in behind him, and focusing on a RB out of the backfield?

I agree with the rest. I don’t understand how we can rush 4, but give up quick passes over and over.

We feel like crap now, wait until Shaq Leanord openly picks the cowboys over us tomorrow…

If I were him after seeing those two Mr. Magoo’s playing LB for us today, I’d realize that my chance at higher playing time is here rather than Dallas.

The whole Dom ordeal was a joke. He’s not a coach, not a player, stand in the back of the sideline. I get he’s a meme but that guy just loves the camera. Know your role.

I’m not willing to say it’s broken. I’ve seen them have good runs and big time runs. This feels way more we don’t stick with running the ball enough cause we suck early and just sat screw it, it’s not working. Just saying we had games like that last year. Bur Steichen never let it go on for more than like a week or two. This year we will do that every week. Also doesn’t help we find ourselves in holes the last 3 weeks and basically forced to throw as we are trailing by double digits.

That’s solid logic. He’s likely to be a1st & 2nd down backer for DAL, I doubt they have him out there in pass situations. However in todays game ever down is a passing situation.

They deserve to gloat and celebrate. We meet them 10 times and they beat us all 10 with the way we played. Without any doubt in my mind whatsoever.  And I am pretty sure they will advance through the playoffs.  So we have a lot of ish to deal with for when we see them next.

Could it have gone differently had we scored on the first two drives?  Perhaps.  Can we do better with Goedert back? Surely.  Can we dink and dunk and run?  I have to think it is possible if Hurts is holding balls THAT long, then obviously we mis-schemed something (several things).  Defensively, I am deeply concerned, lol.  And I don't see any solutions to playing them again.  I honestly don't know what the D can do to get home. To cover. To handle pre snap movement. To handle misdirection.

This is a defense rebuild year really. They're plugging holes with vets to stay competitive. I expect them to address the secondary in the draft and maybe FA again. Still enough talent on D to be better that this though.

This has been an issue with Schwartz, Gannon and now desai… at what point is it not the DC and it is the eagles organizational approach to how they want their defense being played? It’d be one thing if it was just desai. This is now 3 coordinators in a row you are doing it. So at some point changing coordinators isn’t the solution.

This defense misses Gardner-Johnson a lot. I know the circumstances were never in favor of him coming back, but they miss that type of player. Someone who can hybrid in the slot and safety and can ball hawk. They haven’t come close to filling that role. I was hoping Sydney Brown would have been able to fill a similar role but it’s too early for him.

How long until we see if Ringo, Ricks, and Jobe are better than the nursing home CBs that are currently starting?

Slay was pathetic today. He should just put his head down when he watches the film.
