This is a defense rebuild year really. They're plugging holes with vets to stay competitive. I expect them to address the secondary in the draft and maybe FA again. Still enough talent on D to be better that this though.

It always was a take a step back year on defense. Losing the amount of guys we did and new starters is an issue. We figured get some younger guys in and let them grow and see what they are. And hope in 2024 offseason we can had 2 pieces and the defense would be ready to go.

the biggest issue right now is safeties are solid to below average guys that aren’t playmakers. Linebackers are just bad from poor picks of Dean and Taylor in the third round, letting Edwards and white walk and bargain shopping in the 3rd tier linebacker group in FA yesr after year or just trying to develop LB from late round or udfa.

I had a bad feeling about today when we came away with 2 FGs to start the game on good drives.  Eagles should have had a TD on at least 1 of those drives and had a 10-0 lead instead of 6-0.

Honestly I think that deflated the team a little.

I’m not willing to say it’s broken. I’ve seen them have good runs and big time runs. This feels way more we don’t stick with running the ball enough cause we suck early and just sat screw it, it’s not working. Just saying we had games like that last year. Bur Steichen never let it go on for more than like a week or two. This year we will do that every week. Also doesn’t help we find ourselves in holes the last 3 weeks and basically forced to throw as we are trailing by double digits.

Maybe they should try actually using Penny for a change. But they're too stubborn. He's known for breaking tackles, but sure this offense couldn't use a guy like that.

Hurts has no pocket presence or situational awareness at times. In what world does he f'ing think he can stand back there against that DL and have that much time? One, two, three, four, and take off or throw it the hell away. He seems unable to progress through his targets still....I mean the 49ers always seemed to have a guy waiting there as an outlet for Purdy. Maybe that's play design and on the coaches but dude....

The first few drives it was get the ball out quick on a slant and they couldn't stop it.....so they stopped calling them. Smart.

yup & imo it killed our momentum imo. plus our defense not playing complementary football one bit.

This has been an issue with Schwartz, Gannon and now desai… at what point is it not the DC and it is the eagles organizational approach to how they want their defense being played? It’d be one thing if it was just desai. This is now 3 coordinators in a row you are doing it. So at some point changing coordinators isn’t the solution.

This .. Siri and the org are dictating what these coordinators do week in and week out. They are not absolved from the failures. Their likely more responsible.

Yep...I mean cut the freaking guy and save a roster spot if he's that dead to them. I think more than ever they need a new perspective to come in and mix things up offensively. Frank needs to be paid whatever it takes to get him in a room designing new plays.

I’m sorry Edwards and white are light years better than what we have at linebacker. We also  downgraded at both safety positions. This defense isn’t nearly as talented as last year especially when you factor in slay and bradberry both have regressed.

Really hard to be a good defense with an over the hill slot corner, bad linebackers and below average safeties. And old corners who taken a step back.

Im not saying desai is absolved of blame, but this defense is way worse in terms of talent. I’d say there’s 3 guys out there right now who have no business starting: morrow, Ellis, Roby. And I’d argue safeties who are significant downgrades from last year.

Fire desai.  you know what’s gonna happen? still gonna bring it another fangio coordinator. You’re gonna run the same crap. They’re gonna have the same Fing problems because they don’t have enough talent run it affectively.

Yeah. I say fire DeSai and find someone who has a little bit of balls to call a slightly better coverage instead of hanging literally every player out to dry. There have been worse defenses that we’ve had that have looked better than this. These are self inflicted wounds, he’s the manager of the unit and I haven’t seen one bright spot anywhere. What’s he doing creative to patch up the issues we have on defense? He’s calling bad plays, even with better players they don’t make sense. How are you going to win a blitz when it’s coming from 9 yards away, vacating an open area of the field? How do you win a rep calling sticks and blitzing everyone from their base position? Why not show the blitz and go nuts from the snap and let your DBs touch the WR? How are you going to win a rep where you have your linebacker stepping up to the C gap (vacating the middle of the field)  on passing downs to watch the blocking RB instead of him dropping and reacting to the back after he’s a threat? If your linebackers suck, how do you consistently call a defense that puts LITERALLY the most stress on linebacker? He’ll be here next year, and the defense will have even less talent with Cox/BG and the DBs getting a year older. Not sure how you’re gonna gauge his competence other than watching what his unit is doing. 300+ to corral. 6 straight TDs today. Having guys complete 70+ % over and over again. Those are indictments to his defense to me. No turnovers, less sacks, no passes defenses. That’s soft, vanilla, trash defense to me.

They deserve to gloat and celebrate. We meet them 10 times and they beat us all 10 with the way we played. Without any doubt in my mind whatsoever.  And I am pretty sure they will advance through the playoffs.  So we have a lot of ish to deal with for when we see them next.

Could it have gone differently had we scored on the first two drives?  Perhaps.  Can we do better with Goedert back? Surely.  Can we dink and dunk and run?  I have to think it is possible if Hurts is holding balls THAT long, then obviously we mis-schemed something (several things).  Defensively, I am deeply concerned, lol.  And I don't see any solutions to playing them again.  I honestly don't know what the D can do to get home. To cover. To handle pre snap movement. To handle misdirection.

Eagles offense is putting the defense behind the 8 ball.  7 points, 7 points, and 6 points in three halves of football against good teams has them going into halftime down two scores each game.  175 snaps on defense the two games leading up to today, and not much offense again today.  There’s only so long you can get away with playing one half of football and come away with a win.  Today was bound to happen with how poorly the offense has been performing.

Eagles need to get back to what makes them truly successful — run downhill on teams and beat them up in the trenches.  Hurts isn’t making good decisions back there playing a pure pocket QB game.  I said it at halftime; he was standing back there with all the time in the world from the OL, and not finding the open man or making the correct read.  Numerous plays this season where he escapes right, only to run himself out of time and toss the ball away toward the stands.  Challenge the LOS; make the defense think about leaving their man to play the QB run.

When you can't run in the RZ you probably aren't scoring in the RZ

We feel like crap now, wait until Shaq Leanord openly picks the cowboys over us tomorrow…

Let the Cowboys have that quick fix that probably won’t pan out issue then. Leonard is not a stop gap measure imo. I believe he’s damaged goods. Could be wrong, he may be slightly better than what we have, but he’s not gonna provide a solution to this D’s many issues. It’s our O that’s gonna have to play lights out to make up for our D’s deficiencies.

The Zaccheaus touchdown from last week really got into his head. He thinks he can just make highlight plays because of that. Mahomes can get away with it more often but he’s not Mahomes. It’s Wentz-esque style of play and they need to coach that out of him ASAP.

If that's what it takes to stop Siri from designing them Im all in.

Leonard with a missing spinal column is better than all of the LBs that we have available now.

The goof ball Lbs bite on every play action on earth for whatever reason

Because outside of the DL they’re the person who stops the run. You have your 4-5 DBs asleep 10-12 yards away from the LOS, only the LBer can make these plays. That’s why I hate this cover 4 BS which forced your LBer to do everything every play. He’s isolated and on an island all game.

How much deek did you and the boys gobble down today?

As much as Jalen Hurt Nick Sirianni Sean Desai and the rest of the defense did

Have you looked at the defense Schwartz is running in Cleveland?

I haven't really studied them but I wonder if he does similar stuff he did here.

Why does Hurts bail so much now?

The LBs can't stop the run either so it's not helping them there. They can't get off of blocks

9ers exposed how soft we are on defense. we have no hard hitters besides our Dline. LBs soft & our DBs are softer then soft. Slay wants to be buddy buddy with everyone & Bradberry is just burnt toast

Not true at all. I think these are bad play calls trying to stretch SF deep, instead of finding quick hitters and running the ball.

Literally, the thing you’re ****ing about right now, it’s literally the same thing everybody ****ed about with Schwartz and with gannon. At what point in time is it not the defensive coordinator as much as what the eagle philosophical approaches annd organization on defense?

how many times did you hear all of us **** about giving 8 yards of cushion with Jim Schwartz and Jonathan gannon? Literally  every single time we played a good team. This is the same thing that being said since 2016.

so this has been an issue form Schwartz to Gannon to now desai. We can fire desai but guess what? You’re going to get the same thing because that’s what the Eagles want to do.

We are still talented enough to win a Super Bowl. That hasn't changed.

Today sucked.

We're on to Dallas.

He's been shook ever since Lane went down in the Jets game it seems.

The real question is where do they go from here. They got embarrassed in their house and have a divisional pho up next. Dallas games are always tough and Dak lights up the defense pretty much everytime. Who’s covering Lamb? I think we’re in for a long night.
