He doesn't play off-ball LB.  Saw a couple flashes today in limited snaps.

A couple of flashes is not much of a return on a first-round pick.

Yeah Howell averaging 31 against us lol.

Cousins also torched the d but that’s no surprise really. He’s always played them tough.

And people said we got a steal lol

The only reason I’ll give Desai a pass is because he just doesn’t have the horses on defense. Secondary is awful and has been banged up all year and all of the linebackers are JAGs. That’ll be addressed in the offseason.

There really isn’t an excuse for the offensive performance in the first half we’ve seen the past four games. Goedert being out shouldn’t be an excuse.

i really hope this is finally the year Howie will start addressing the LBs & DBs with some high picks. because its obvious we need talent there.

Exactly, but i mean you look at those Deebo runs up the gut dudes didnt want no piece of that. like we straight up look like cowards. you let them come in here body slam our dudes. then let them call one of your teammates trash(whether he is or not lol). still stand up & have your teammates back. then you have Nick coming out saying we were showing the team clips of them trash talking. then we proceed to come out & play like a bunch of pansies.

this game in general just left a bad taste in my mouth.

If you're referring to the late TD .. Reed was made love to on that one.

They looked good for one quarter and forgot there were three more quarters to play.

To be fair the LBer was forced to cover someone behind him and peeled off to cover Deebo on the first one. We need to move to a cover 3 concept to help the middle of the field and let Slay/Bradbury play zone on the ends with Byard playing deep middle. Then we have have LBs/DBs flowing and roaming the middle changing up looks from cover 3 to 4 and 6.

So many thoughts on this game. I'm done thinking the Eagles are going to magically hit some switch and play a complete game. It's just not going to happen.

- Jalen Hurts. What's going on? Why does he continually drift to the right as soon as he gets the snap. Watching him feels like a 12 year old kid playing Madden. Get the snap and run to the right. It's maddening. Is the OL not as good as we think they are and giving up pressure or is Hurts regressing? How many times a game do we see Hurts drift, drift, drift and we have a big sigh of relief when he throws it away?

- Where is the running game? Why is Swift being used so little and sporadically? Again, is the OL not as good as we think they are and they can't get lanes? There's absolutely no rhyme or reason to their running game. When's the last time they even tried to get Swift in to a rhythm? They don't. It's a carry here and then he's out for a quarter. It makes no sense.

- For the resources they've invested in the DL, I expect more. They need to dominate. They need to be able to take over a game. Right now, they are underperforming. They need to take their game up a notch.

- Reed Blankenship is probably the least of their issues but I don't think he's a long term solution at safety. He's probably starting here next year by default but he's given up some crucial TD's this year.

- Eli Ricks was a great pre-season story. He cannot be out there anymore on defense. They brought in Josiah Scott as an emergency nickel when Maddox got hurt and he instantly played his best game as an Eagle against the Dolphins...only to never play another snap and get cut. Eli Ricks is getting burnt left and right yet they still trot him out there. Nothing about it makes sense. I still think Ricks can be a player down the road...but he ain't it right now.

- Nothing to say about the linebackers but Morrow gave up 14 points today on 2 plays. I also noticed that Sirianni has 17 on his visor. Dean is done for the year. Leonard isn't saving this defense if he signs here. What a wreck that everyone saw coming.

- They weren't the reason the Eagles lost the game but the officials, as we expected, were garbage. Bosa takes Hurts out at the knees, nothing. Hurts gets tossed down in the white on the sideline, nothing. The Eagles were getting held on both sides of the ball and nothing. A player punches Dom, who was just doing his job, and Dom gets ejected....OK.

I guess we all know this was coming at some point. I don't know where they go from here though. They aren't getting better. The coaches aren't changing how they call the games and the schedule isn't getting any easier.

He was always going to be a project.  Plus, he doesn't many snaps with the DEs in front of him.

how do you know this?   what we know is that Ricks does not have the physical capabilities of Ringo.  Ricks was seen as more pro ready.  And what is likely to happen is that Ringo gets better and Ricks doesn't, because he's near his physical ceiling.

RAS compare at CB - Ringo v Ricks

https://ras.football/ras-compare/?&p1=19977&p2=20017&pos=CB

Ringo ran 4.36 40 at 207
Ricks ran 4.60 40 at 188

I agree 100% Ringo has more upside no doubt. That's what those RAS scores are indicating at.

But Ringo's issues in college and through his play in training camp / pre-season / and i'm assuming what he is working on in practices are around getting better with play anticipation and he needs to be work on his hip fluidity. Combine that with the fact that he is an outside corner prospect (not slot) are why Ricks is above him in the depth chart and playing but hopefully Ringo develops and passes by him. Long-term odds are Ricks is JAG who is out of the league in a few years

He is a rookie afterall... has to build his body up for the pro game and continue learning from Reddick.

I’d try to convert him to a MIKE. A little too late now, but in the off season. I don’t believe Dean can play in the NFL. Some guys are just good college players.

I wish Desai would use some different blitzes.  Send a corner or safety sometimes off the edge.

3rd worst on 3rd down. 4th worst on red zone. Tied for 9 worth turnovers forced. 3rd worst for penalties. Worst for first downs given.

I don’t care if they fire someone every year. If they put up the numbers this guy is, and letting teams walk all over him like he is, fire him, them, and everyone til we find someone who’s able to do what he’s asked, while pushing the envelop to have a respectable defense.

I complained about the same thing you are again with Gannon in 2021. He had the same exact issues in 2021. They were 29th in red zone in 2021. 30th in third down defense. 27th in first downs given. Also one of the most penalized defenses in 2021.

Literally everything you just complained about were the same things that were ****ed about in 2021 with Gannon. So again that 2021 team lacked good defensive talent at linebacker  I’d say at safety  and corner opposite slay. Was only year maddox stayed healthy. I get Gannon still sucked against better offenses in 2022. But the reason why they were at least competent against mediocre and bad offenses is because they significantly got better talent in 2022.

I think this defensive talent is closer to the 2021 defense in terms of talent than the 2022 defense. They suck at slot corner. Roby is not good. maybe average at safety. They’re really bad at linebacker. They don’t have great depth behind sweat and riddick. So they are playing a ton of snaps. And all defensive tackles are playing way over than snap count they should.

I enjoyed the ref style today. If all games were reffed like that we’d all be happier. They let them play, SF was more physical in all phases and the Eagles were too soft. Simple.

I think they have enough on defense to be adequate. It should not be this bad. Whatever happened to the days of cooking up a defense that gets every drop out of its talent and finds ways to make up for deficiencies. If you need studs at every position to provide any resistance on defense, then the coaching or scheming sucks somewhere. The bar is incredibly low. Not even a good defense. Just one that provides some resistance and isn’t a sieve on 3rd down. Can’t even provide that.

Just a reminder...

Lose to Dallas and the win out, we win the division.

1) Same H2H (1-1)
2) Same division record (5-1)
3) Same common opponents (10-2)
4) Eagles have better conference record (10-2 v 9-3)

I'd actually prefer the #2 seed.  Likely host the Vikings, Rams, Seahawks, or Packers in the wild card round.  Then host the Lions in the Divisional round, assuming a) they lose one of their games @Min, @Dal, or Min, and b) Dallas beats the #4 seeded NFC south winner.  Even if we were the #3 seed, going to Detroit wouldn't be a serious obstacle, IMO.  Let the Niners and Cowboys play each other in the Divisional round.  We'd only have one difficult game in the conference playoffs.  Yes...a lot can still go wrong.

Haven’t been healthy enough this year to wish for the extra playoff game.  All it takes is for the wrong guy to go out injured for the season in the #2 vs 7 game (Hurts, AJ Brown, Smith) and the overall plan is at dire risk.

Eagles still have a sizeable advantage in the division, where they still lead even with a loss next week.  @ SEA becomes the huge game at that point.  SF still has Baltimore on their schedule — and the Ravens might actually run through SF, the way the Eagles should have tried more today.  Niners don’t have a walk to the #1 seed just yet.

If Tommy Devito beats this team, I will vomit out all of my organs on my OnlyFans feed.

The D has made a bunch of average QBs look like HOF.

So I'll hedge my bets and say we destroy Devito one game, but the other game he is great and manages to keep it very close.

Nah he likes blitzing lbs on a delay from 5 yards deep. That’ll show em.

Still gotta stop them. Mac Jones and Sam Howell torched this defense, not sure they’d torch Cleveland.

Oh they definitely don’t. That said id argue cleveland has better talent on defense than the eagles. Kid take the eagles DL but I’d take their back seven over ours.
