Again not the reason they lost but the refs were horrid or, more precisely, obviously biased. They missed blatant holds in the hole on almost every big run SF had. The obvious holds on the 2 tds by Deebo. AJ Brown got mauled all game even in the fn end zone...no call.  The phantom offsides that gave them a TD instead a fg.  They had an agenda for sure

I think we probably got away with some holding too, ie the stellar pass protection that Hurts consistently received.

Yall turning on Nick cause of one bad beat when we 10-2 coming off a superbowl he got us to year 2 is ridiculous.

That's kind of how the offense has felt for a majority of the season. A lot of Hurts running around, playing backyard football, and AJ or DeVonta just getting open. There isn't a lot of structure and scheme to this passing game where receivers are getting open due to route design. It's basically the opposite of San Francisco's offense which is designed to scheme guys open and make the quarterback's job easier. They don't want Purdy playing hero ball. That's what Shanahan excels at. It's just hard to tell if thats a Hurts or Brian Johnson/Sirianni issue.

I think its obvious siri johnson issue

The offense lacks creativity and or ingenuity, its static and predictable and way too reliant in talent.

Where as you say shanahan is a mad scientist, with exotic looks and motions that scheme his guys wide open and make purdy whose very average in my opinion look like an all pro.

Ive said this about twn times already yesterday and today, shanahan is one of if not the best play designer in the league and his play calling is tops as well

Where as BJ is i think obviously towards the bottom, he and Siri have been awful all year in play design and calls.

The biggest loss in the off season is looking like Steichen.☹️

There weren't really a lot tough decisions for him to make - punting at the end the 3rd <not great> and keeping the starters in <also not good> come to mind.  There's the going for 2 thing, but I'm a dinosaur in that regard <so I don't care>.

The eagles did not take advantage of the refs swallowing the whistle like SF did. Pretty clear they figured out the refs weren't calling anything early so they did whatever they wanted until it got called, and never did. Dude bear hugging AJ in the end zone on the sack play, kittle bear hugging one guy and holding another one (deemed great downfield blocking by the announcers), Blankenship tackled to the ground on the Samuel TD. Niners took advantage, eagles didn't.

Looks like Steichen and the DB coach could be the biggest losses, imo.

This team is just as (or more) talented on paper as last years team - plus an added year of improvement/experience from Hurts, Smith, Brown, etc - there is little reason that this team shouldn’t be  as consistent as last year’s team.  They should be more consistent, not less.

So yes, people need to start looking at both offensive and defensive play designs, scheming and play calling. Obviously, something is not up to par.

The best thing is they needed a kick in the balls to make some changes

Spot on, my sentiments exactly.  I don't think the best Eagles showed up yesterday, but they are absolutely better than that.  Sometimes losing is a good thing if you take the lessons to heart and get better.

That's the problem with the current NFL referees.  You never know what you are going to get from game to game.  Thursday night...you touch the Dallas WR it's a penalty.  Sunday afternoon.. yeah, go ahead and bear hug AJ Brown all game...nothing to see.  That's ridiculous.  Have some fn consistency!

Also, I haven't read back, but I'm guessing folks are a bit grumpy this morning.

If I told you at the beginning of the season we'd go 4-1 against the Dolphins, Cowboys, Chiefs, Bills and 49ers would you take it?

It would have been nice if we covered well enough to be physical with their WRs.

You should read back. We’re all thrilled.

Bills got everyone they needed to lose and got the Chiefs this week with a banged up Defense so should mean they will play Dallas tough in two weeks.

I just dont see the Eagles beating both Dallas in Dalls, and Seattle in Seattle....  We may win one of those games we are not winning both.

That being said, I dont think it matters, we will make the playoffs, but I dont think we can get past San Fran at home let alone in their house. We were so thoroughly outcoached, I dont see Johnson, Desai and Siri all off the sudden becoming innovative coaches in the next 6 games or so.

As long as the Eagles win one of them, and win the last 3, they win the division.

Unlike Slay, Byard has some damn pride in the defense. But hey, maybe Slay can play for the 49ers next year so who gives a crap

So when does Leonard make his Lebron decision?  Later today, I assume?

TBH I’ll take him. I’m thinking maybe try to get one in the off-season? But that might be asking too much. Is Dean returning this year?

Anyone have video of when and where that ref  threw the flag?

All things considered, the atrocious performance by this defense is the difference between us and the 49ers. Even the Cowboys have a competent defense that also has its deficiencies like they all do. We are like the 24th ranked D and number 32 on third downs. That’s not even average, that’s usually a 3 or 4 win team. How can that be fixed these next weeks when it’s been the problem the entire year?! Sure, the offense isn’t a juggernaut either, but they’re good enough to go deep into the playoffs.
Cant say the same for the defense. And I actually think that our line is somewhat overrated as well. This could be part of the sieve on the back seven, but they are not dominating average offensive lines either.

I was pretty disappointed in Slay.  We all know he's not a physical CB but, wow -- he's got to be able to do a better job against Brandon Aiyuk 1-on-1.  He's pretty much the Niners' 4th weapon in the offense.

You scout them - it was known that the SF has done well with this ref crew in the past.  I didn't know why on Friday, but now I see that an underwhelming OL and CB group can benefit from a hands-off approach.

He was probably lining up where the ball should have been spotted given all the ridiculous spotting by the refs.  :P

The refs let the players play - and the 9ers were the more physical football team yesterday.

That's what I was saying about why this crew seems to be so favorable towards the 49ers.  A crew that doesn't call ticky tack, or even some blatant things plays into their style.  They are physical... they beat people up, they hold, they get chippy, they play right up to the line (and quite often cross it).  And a crew that let's the players play and doesn't get involved heavily favors a team that's always physical.  They called the game evenly... but the 49ers got away with more, because they did it more.
