The run the ball thing frustrates me.  The OL has not been reliably opening holes in the running game.  We have one good back who is presently injured.

This isn’t a particularly good running team.

They might as well try Nolan Smith out as a traditional LB.

Why not? Get him more snaps, he & Reddick might be able to at least disrupt the QB

The problem is : IT SHOULD BE  This SHOULD be a dominant run team.

and their issues point to scheme.

The DTs are not the issue.

Of course DT isn’t the issue.  But the massive DT investment is the reason we have a replacement level back 7.  Have the DTs been dominant enough to justify or overcome that?

Yes.

But the back 7 is so bad it doesn't matter. Below-average LB play, and not catastrophic LB play, and we're fine.

i actually thought the Line was fine. but it also just help when we just go away from it after some bad runs. gotta keep trying to at least force our will on them.

Lane as usual the best linemen on the Eagles, and obviously T Williams was for the 49’ers, but no, Kelce for whatever reason did not play well, maybe Hargrave learned something in his time with the Eagles.

I would have been fine with that throw, but it's not like Devonta is open when Jalen is in position to throw it.

He’s made those throws before.  Need to get back to that.

Having Cunningham back would be huge.  If Leonard can get up to speed, we might be able to actually cover somebody in the middle of the field.

I'm not doubting Jalen Hurts as the Eagles QB and unquestioned leader.

However, plays like this were the reason I wasn't sold on him prior to last year. There's no reason to bail out of the pocket. This habit has crept back in to his game in a big way. He's got to break this habit and start trusting the pocket again. There's so much this team has to improve and Hurts is a big part of it.

Watch the video and slow it down when he leaves the pocket, he leaves the pocket as it becomes clear Mailata is about to lose his block, and if he moves up into the pocket Bosa has inside leverage on Lane and Dickerson is coming back towards him at a rate of knots. he turns right literally at the same time as Smitty turns left and Stoll hasn't completely cleared his block yet, Hurts would have to make a touch pass to drop it over Stoll's head with enough height to clear the linebacker and nickel corner but also enough speed that it gets there before the safety stood 9 yards in front of Stoll can react.

Here's a screen grab.

Cox is getting $14m, back to back high first round picks at DT, a high 3rd in Williams, and two drafted players rounding out the depth for the 5th and 6th DTs.

And we need to bring in a washed vet at DT mid season.

Yep, been sayin that. All this chatter about how the Eagles invest so much in to their DL yet they need to bring in a soon to be 37 year old DT. How's that investment actually working out? Bottom line is they need their DL to step up.

My point isn’t to blame the DTs themselves.  They are playing well.

But…excluding our top 3 DTs (all high first round picks)…we have a 3rd, 6th, and 7th round pick invested in DTs 4,5, and 6.

At CB, we have a pair of 3rd round picks and zero other drafted players on roster.

At LB, we have one 3rd round pick.

At safety, one 3rd round pick.

Draft wise, they have essentially invested more in DTs 4,5,6 than they have in their entire LB, safety, or cb groups.  And considering the huge investment in DTs 1,2,3….its even more lopsided.

My sign would say, TACKLE or COVER - more 3 yard runs, meh.

Spending a lot of resources (both draft picks, $ etc) on both offensive & defensive lines has been a foundation of this franchise and one of the main reasons it has been (almost) perennially competitive over the past 2 decades.

Sorry to pull directly from Reub's article but goodness, the numbers are atrocious. We can talk about Hurts not seeing the field all we want. We can talk about the running game being non existent but if the defense is this bad, they have no chance.

Since they shut down the Dolphins in Week 7, they’re allowing 29 points per game, 435 total yards per game, 306 passing yards per game and 4.8 yards per rushing attempt. They’re last or next-to-last in each of those categories since Week 8.

The Eagles are only the fifth team in NFL history to allow 2,000 net yards, 1,500 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns and 4.8 yards per carry in any five-game span.

They’re one of only seven teams in history to allow 27 or more TD passes while recording six or fewer interceptions through 12 games.

Couldn’t disagree more. It ruined the timing of the play, took his eyes off what should have been his immediate read to put his foot in the ground and cut upfield and the wider path gave Greenlaw more time to close before Swift could put a move on him.

If he cut upfield sooner he would have run into Greenlaw sooner.

Carter is at the rookie wall, the 75 plus snaps against Buffalo probably got him there. Just to give him, Davis, and Cox some rest, Suh would be a fine addition.

Didn't see this posted. He only played 4 games.

Coaches need to catch heat. The defense should not be this bad. They seem to have a lot of issues and they haven’t fixed anything.

Yep. All these guys are better when they are fresh.

Tough decisions for Howie - Tui was a draft pick, Albert O was traded for… letting these guys go might hurt his prestige slightly (although I’d think it would be the right decision).

Makes me wonder if some of these guys just read stat sheets instead of actually watching and paying attention to games.

It’s not about just running the ball more.  It’s about maintaining a ball control offense.   After the 1st quarter, the 49ers wore our defense down by converting almost every third down and marching down the field repeatedly and scoring.

The only way to slow them down would have been to maintain a ball control offense - either by actually completing passes and getting first downs or running the ball effectively.  The idea is that they needed to give the defense time to recover after getting constantly hammered by the 49ers offense - especially after converting almost every 3rd down, after the defense made tough stops on 1st & 2nd downs.

Need to take a look at the nuances of a game before calling people morons, Jimmy.

It isn't rocket science, DK McDonald sucks as a DB coach and the Linebackers are a huge step down from TJ Edwards who we treated as a JAG when his contract was up despite PFF saying he was one of the best performing Linebackers in the league all last season.
