I would have been fine with that throw, but it's not like Devonta is open when Jalen is in position to throw it.

An NFL QB has to anticipate that throw. "If I'm even, I'm leaving..."

I'm not counting the final drive because they were down 42-19. They are obviously passing. And even still it was 10 plays and 55 yards, that's not "short". The other drive was when they gave up before halftime with 2 plays they clearly weren't trying to do anything. So, yea, it was just one drive,

There were a total of 5 drives the Eagles didn’t score on.  And I said the final drive wasn’t short but it was in garbage time so it didn’t matter.  But it was still 5 drives.

Why is that important?  Because it shows how many times the Eagles got the ball back after the 49ers beat up on our defense.  Why is that important?  Because that’s the exact reason our defense was gassed most of the game.

When you don’t maintain a ball control offense, you tend to keep your defense out on the field too long and when you come back don’t score, have short drives (in terms of time)  - that wears the living daylights out of your defense and it’s basically what happened after the 1st quarter.

Could have running the ball more and establishing a balanced attack helped?  Who knows (history says yes) but completely abandoning the run and only passing obviously did not work and rarely does.

Maybe the passing game would work better if the QB didn't hold the ball so damn long or trip and lose 15 yards. The scheme could be better too, but until they fix the run game, the pass game is working better right now than the run.

I do agree a 2 yard run is better than Hurts sacking himself.

Some random thoughts:

1. The clip from NFL Live with Mina talking about us seeing a lot of 2 safety looks was excellent (NFL Live really is the only good show on ESPN at this point). No one dared try that last year because we'd run it down their throat if they didn't bring a safety into the box. We need to pound the run at the 2 high safety look and get guys out of it -- they are taking away big plays.

2. Related to the first point, we REALLY miss Goedert. The TE in the middle of the field is he passing game answer to the 2 high safety look, and Hurts has zero faith in Stoll/Grant/Albert O. I also think we should bring in Ertz who excels at finding the hole in zones. Getting the TE back this week should be a massive upgrade.

3. The OL and DL were just physically done in the SF game after the 1st quarter. I HOPE that was from the schedule and the long games, and they rebound.

4. This running game needs the RPO element to truly work. Jalen's going to have to keep a few and run.

5. I'd like to see more screens and other passes to Swift like we used against KC.

6. None of this matters if the D can't make a stop. Getting Cunningham back will be big, and hopefully Leonard can help. The outside CBs have been OK, but the middle of the field is an abortion.

Exhausted team missing key pieces got boat raced. Yes, Dallas will have a rest advantage and they should win this game -- if we can win it when they have such a massive advantage, it will be a hell of a statement.

Yes. Lets count them out.

1. Run on first down, pass 2nd and 10, penalty, scramble 3rd and 11. 3 and out, punt

2. Sack, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass. Punt

3. pass, run. end of half. Not even trying to do anything here besides run the clock out, so if you want to count this as "pass heavy and short" or whatever, that's a stretch.

4. Run, pass 2nd and 8, scramble. 3 and out, punt.

5. Last drive of the game down 23. Still moved the ball 55 yards on 10 plays. Downs.

Now please tell me how many drives were short or didn't end in points due to frequent passing?

2nd quarter would be the first half, which I already said.

The bigger, not talked about issue is the failure in the redzone in the first quarter.

That’s another issue. I don’t even know if they hold that lead if it’s 14-0 because pass offense is wildly inconsistent and we can’t run the ball.

If only we sprinkled magical 2 yard run dust onto those drives. That definitely would have worked.

Scoring points. Finishing red zone drives with touchdowns.

Or a couple of 2 yard runs, obviously.

There were at least a few runs that were short because of flukes. (Missed block, missed move, etc)  Chances are you’ll get those runs to eventually pop if you stick with it.

How many times has this team run the ball 20+ times and only averaged 2 yards per carry?

Added note:

I'd active Penny. I know there's no chance they do it, but he's the type of downhill runner we need to attack the soft shell coverage we've been seeing all year. It's almost like the Super Bowl got everyone scared of us throwing it all over them, and we are refusing to just be physical. Put Hurts under center if need be and just attack north and south.

Hey that was a Run! Mainly because they nearly threw a pick a play before deep in their own territory

Last thought - I want to see the TE screen to Goedert back this week.

It’s really convenient that you’re calling missed blocks flukes.

You also don't see 20 rush attempts for an average of 2 yards per carry because teams aren't dumb and run it that much if its clearly not working.

Really?  Because this team usually misses blocks on runs?  Like more than 50% of the time?  News to me.

Yes. The offense wasn’t good. The running game was dreadful and vanilla and completely sniffed out.

SF also is significantly better and more diverse at running the ball than we are.

As currently constructed, our run game isn’t worth sticking to, especially with a crap defense against a highly efficient and explosive offense like SF.

I would much rather lose trying to get the ball to Smith and Brown than chipping away with 2 yard gains in hopes of getting the run game going.

We need to change how we run before we decide to plug away with it just because.

Running does shorten the game and gives fewer opportunities to the opposition's offense.

Also, it's not like our passing game was on fire either.

But it would have worked on the 21st try!

I think Goodell should eliminate the WR screen.  Bad optics and San Fran is too good at it.

Running by itself doesn’t shorten the game that much if you can’t get first downs. But maybe we would have only given up 35 points instead.

But it might have worked on the 10th or 11th try.  But heck, 3 runs in 45 minutes of game time is enough.  Probably 3 too many.

Don't we need to cut someone to add Leonard? Did I miss a transaction?

That's positive news for the Cowboys.  I hope he's back by gameday.

What’s funny in this whole argument about magically sprinkling more 2 yard runs is that in the KC and bills game the running game was also not good. But then swift hit big runs. Without swift 35 yard run, the eagles in that game were 50 yards in 13 attempts (3.8 yards per carry). And that was a huge run/play in that game. Also swift against the bills in the first half was 3 attempts for 7 yards (2.33 yards per carry). Gainwell and Scott actually looked decent comparatively. Guess what he did first run of the second half that jump started the offense? 36 yard run. But I’m guessing since he had a 2.33 yards per carry after 3 touches he shouldn’t have gotten the chance to bust a 36 and 16 yard runs in the second half of that game that were crucial in that victory.

my whole point has been in this the Eagles passing game is far too inconsistent just sit there and say we should become a one dimensional team. Especially against the best Fing defense in the NFL. If the Eagles passing game was clicking and highly functioning like SB or most of 2022 I’d agree. But since 4th quarter against Dallas it hasn’t. Which brings me to the point I keep saying is that you need more reliable wide receivers then just Smith and AJ and you aren’t getting consistent 2022 version of Jalen hurts. Those two factors are why you shouldn’t become one dimensional and aren’t going to beat SF being one dimensional.
