Isn't Sheil the paid analyst? I think he should do the work.

He does.

There has always been racial motivations for some people who have always been against Hurts and are quick to jump on him.  Please note I am NOT saying ALL people but it can't be denied that race does factor in for some people.  It's the reality.  When someone like David Carr says something as stupid as what he said and he isn't someone known as some hot take TV personality and he wasn't on one of those clown Fox Sports 1 or ESPN shows that only run on that stuff, then it's fair to question whether he falls in that some people bracket.

David Carr is basically a tier 3b analyst.  This is the most publicity he’s received in years.  So call it what you want, the fact that anyone is talking about it gives him the attention he was seeking.

I did not see the evidence he adduced to support the notion that Hurts is seeing the field.

He said if your "default” analysis/criticism is he struggles to read a defense then show your work. What’s wrong with that?

By the way, you really just proved his point by saying he’s getting the snap and instantly bailing. Talk about lazy.

I dunno, maybe it's me but I l don't even look at Jalen Hurts as a black quarterback. I look at him as the Eagles quarterback. He's open to any criticism there is. He doesn't get special treatment because he's black. The Eagles just played an absolute stinker of a game all around and Hurts was part of that. Part of being a fan, especially a Philly sports fan is the overreaction to a bad game. Are we overreacting? Maybe a bit....does any of it have to do with the fact that Hurts is a black QB? Not at all.

This is a direct quote from Sheil. There's no reason to bring race in to it. Also, Carr is suggesting to replace a black QB with another non-white QB in Mariota...so there's that?

"If you're going to insinuate that a black quarterback can't read defenses, you have to show your work"

My take on Hurts isn't lazy at all. Hurts isn't playing up to the level we expect him to now. He's regressed and yes, on a lot of plays, he's bailing to the right almost instantly. Nothing lazy about saying that at all. We all see it.

This coaching staff defies logic and common sense. I think our personnel can make up for their incompetence 75-80% of the time, but not against a superiorly coached team that understands how to fully utilize their personnel.

I look for a gross overcorrection this coming Sunday, probably 70/30 run-pass ratio.

And for FFS, get Penny involved, this is do or die time.

They really don't like Penny

He’s bailing almost instantly after taking the snap? And you’ve seen this a lot?

He does it regularly on his podcast…

Do the rumors about his blocking have truth to them?  Did he have issues blocking when he was in Seattle?

Are you watching the same games? How are you not seeing that? I'm not saying it's every play but he's doing it a much higher rate this year. He was fantastic last year because he was stepping up in to the pocket. This year he's regressed. It's clear as day that there are plays where he gets the snap and rolls to the right out of the pocket.

I took much of Carr’s comments as him saying "Hurts isn’t anywhere close to 100% health and he should come out for a few games to get himself 100% for the playoffs”.  That statement was foolish enough, because 1) Hurts would never do that, and I don’t think any NFL starting QB on a 10-2 team would, and 2) Mariota isn’t a good enough QB at this point to assure wins over the Giants and Cards — much less SEA.  He carried his position to the absurd when he tried to assert that Mariota would be performing better if he were in there.  I expect he’ll probably walk that portion back in the coming days.

It is pretty alarming, though, that Hurts’ yards per carry have gone from 5.6 in 2020 and 2021, to 4.6 last season, down to 3.6 this season.  When I pointed out this decline/concern last season I was told "Hurts is running a lot of sneaks; that brings his average down”.  How many more sneaks this season?  The NFL is adjusting to what Hurts does best and forcing him to adapt.

Hurts is still having a good-very good season, but he’s not been as good as last year.  How much of that is due to health and how much is just not being as good is up for debate.  Fans probably shouldn’t expect the kind of season Hurts had last year would be repeated every year.

Here's the video of AJ answering Eskin's question. Between this, the non-stop of analysts calling them frauds, and the insane take by Carr about Jalen...I think there's a chance these guys come out on fire. Hopefully they aren't too fired up.

you hope so. but when the 9ers were trashing talking & trashing talking their teammate. we all know how they responded to that. if they dont come out ready to get physical this team is soft both physically & mentally.

That’s where some analyst needs to subtract the sneaks and compare the trend on non sneak plays.

Hurts last season could do it all. Not sure why we’re seeing some type of drop. Could it be because he has a new QB coach and OC?

i think those definitely play a big role.

I think you have recency bias.  There was a streak of at least 5-6 games that all he did was stay in the pocket and drop dimes.  All QB’s have bad games here and there and he wasn’t his best against San Fran.

I would think the kneel downs would be more last season; the Eagles were winning by a higher margin where this season more wins have been late.  The sneaks would be easily traceable because of the big deal observers have made of the "brotherly shove”, I’m sure their success rate is tracked.

I don’t think very much analysis is required to recognize Hurts has not been nearly as effective or dynamic this year when pulling the ball down and running.

Anyone who's seen them both play and still thinks Hurts should be benched for Mariota needs to find a board-certified neurologist and book the soonest appointment available to get a thorough evaluation.

Everyone may notice a small Amazon icon at the bottom of the board. That links directly to our affiliate link. Clicking that will take you to Amazon and anything purchased there for the next 24 hours, will earn the board our commission.

I made it small and at the bottom of the board so as to not be intrusive. Right now, we're on pace to break $1,000.00 in commissions for 2023.

I'd recommend just going to the ER

Oh goodness. I like Sheil, but this take is equally as bad as Carr. Not one person is saying Hurts can't read a defense because he's black. He says people that say black QBs can't read defenses are lazy and that it goes back to Randall and Donovan...maybe the Eagles have had majority black QBs so that's who we have to criticize? IMO, his take is the lazy one. Expect better from him.

The fact of the matter is that Hurts ISN'T reading defenses right now. He's getting the snap and instantly bailing.

Click bait pandering BS. Nobody is saying he can't read a defense. We are saying he holds the damn ball for too freaking long while not seeing open receivers and takes too many sacks instead of throwing it away.

People want Mariota over Hurts? I'd rather go without a backup and have Brandon Graham take snaps over Mariota.

That’s different than what Sheil is saying, and it’s not like he is talking about the Blog.

One a-hole on TV does who'd rather talk about Hurts than how bad his brother is playing

Not arguing that one bit and tried to make that point in saying we fans tend to overreact. He's played at an MVP level at times this year, which is how he played all of last year. However, this year he's making way too many plays like he did 2 years ago.
