Listening to Sheil’s film review podcast and he thinks there are a lot of clear instances where Hurts doesn’t trust or want to throw to the TEs. He’s staying on Brown and Smith too long where in the past he would have made the same throw to Goedert. He also questioned how well he saw things, that his eyes were in the right place but he didn’t pull the trigger.

Yeah might have been one of sheil’s best film reviews. The running game has its issues and they went into why and how to run it so they can get them selves back on track. But the issue with the pass game goes back to th fourth 4th of the Dallas game after goedert got hurt. Jalen hurts and the passing game hasn’t been consistent enough. That’s what I said yesterday. Was that the biggest issue with the inconsistent passing game right now is hurts isn’t consistently playing like 2022 Jalen hurts. Last 3 weeks you are getting 2022 Jalen hurts for like a quarter or a half or a couple series but not consistently throughout the game.

Some of that is what Sheil said where he’s not throwing to Albert O who is wide open but he’s only trusting AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith to get open. Which then also goes back to what I’ve been saying since goedert when down their third option is not good enough and he doesn’t trust many of them. Oz, Watkins, Julio, whatever other back up TE you want to throw out there aren’t good enough and/or he doesn’t trust them. That’s why this off-season they need to go out and get somebody who could be competent as a third wide receiver so if that was goedert gets hurt they still have 3 trustworthy options and he’s not just looking at the two guys on the outside. Because that makes it easier on a defense if he’s just looking for smith and brown. Frankly, I don’t blame him for not trusting some of these guys.  Watkins gets the ball thrown to him, hit them in his hands and he doesn’t come down with it. That’s a throw to AJ Brown, or Devonta Smith they come down with it.

Think about this, the only ball that was thrown 15 yards or more in the air that was caught by receiver not name, DeVonta Smith, goedert or AJ, Brown, was that Oz touchdown and Oz reception all the way back in week 3. Otherwise everybody that has been thrown 15 yards or more down the field to another wide receiver or receiving threat, has not caught it. understand those three are going to get the most targets so they should have most of them. But there’s been more than two throws down the field to guys not named Dallas Goedert, Smith or brown and they just haven’t caught it.

That’s interesting.

Movie gif. A scene from the movie Half Baked. A man stands with a disgruntled looking crowd sitting behind him. He points angrily as if offended at someone, saying., “Boo this man! Boo!” He then grabs the hat off of his head and chucks it. The crowd behind him starts to get up and follow his protest.

Ok ok lol but do you get the joke? The groups name name is Def Leopard and the wife wants to hahaha…..I’ll leave……

I get all that.  The thing is there likely will be a day he won’t have two "pro-bowl” level WR’s as his #1 and #2.   Look at what Mahomes deals with in KC, for example. Sooner or later he’s going to need to make those throws too.

Don’t disagree he needs to make those throws. He needs to do what he did with quez in that Niners game. Just throw it and if he doesn’t come down with it, nobody’s gonna sit there and say oh man that’s your fault jalen. However, I think the bigger issue is they don’t have very good  receiving options outside of Smith and AJ Brown when goedert goes down. And their receivers after those two aren’t very competent. They need a better 3rd Wr than quez, julio and even Oz. Oz is a 4th wr. They also need to get a better backup TE knowing goedert missed 3-5 weeks every year

What is with this "Hurts doesn't trust his open receivers" excuse nonsense I keep seeing? Like... what? Stoll is wide open, part of the progression, so throw throw it to him.

That would be like Mahomes deciding not to throw that ball to ANY of his receivers not named Kelce. He even said after the Eagles game when asked about his **** receivers, "I'm going to keep firing it in there". That's real QB talk.

Get out of here with this " Hurts doesn't trust his wide open TE because his last name isn't Goeddert" BS.

What % chance is there that this dude comes in and just dominates for us over the last quarter of the season and into the playoffs?  Less than 5 right?

If he's just serviceable, it's an upgrade. I think that is possible.

Randall was the man when he was starting. I doubt many looked at him and said wait he's black so we can't cheer for him against the Giants. We went from Randall to Peete to a few years with Ty and Bobby and right on to McNabb and Vick and now Jallen.

I guess compared to what we're used to seeing, he might look like Ray Lewis

I won't defend Carr here. I'll say he's seeing what a lot of us and the rest of the NFL see. But benching Hurts in favor of Mariota is just beyond stupid.

It seems like the consensus here is that it would be best for the Eagles to be as hurt and tired and worn out as possible when the playoffs get here.

The consensus is that if one of the 3 players who play almost all the snaps and get all the targets gets hurt and goes out,  then that player will be replaced, but that replacement player will never get targets.

I think the last 3 games should have backups playing.   I think the stars should rest at least some against the Giants x2 and the Cardinals.  I think the backups should be playing,  getting better, or at least the Eagles should know if those players currently suck or are good.

DeVonte Smith has played 97.36% of all offensive snaps.   Is that normal for NFL teams to do with WRs?   No.   Compare Tyreek Hill.  66.24%.

I didn’t even know Quinn had one.

But Hurts only throws to Brown, Smith and Goedert. (also rbs)

Except for those 3,  no WR or TE has 10 catches.   At the TE spot,  only 4 catches not by Goedert, total.

The Eagles would be even better if the NFL was 9 v 9.

I dunno, maybe it's me but I l don't even look at Jalen Hurts as a black quarterback. I look at him as the Eagles quarterback. He's open to any criticism there is. He doesn't get special treatment because he's black. The Eagles just played an absolute stinker of a game all around and Hurts was part of that. Part of being a fan, especially a Philly sports fan is the overreaction to a bad game. Are we overreacting? Maybe a bit....does any of it have to do with the fact that Hurts is a black QB? Not at all.

This is a direct quote from Sheil. There's no reason to bring race in to it. Also, Carr is suggesting to replace a black QB with another non-white QB in Mariota...so there's that?

"If you're going to insinuate that a black quarterback can't read defenses, you have to show your work"

My take on Hurts isn't lazy at all. Hurts isn't playing up to the level we expect him to now. He's regressed and yes, on a lot of plays, he's bailing to the right almost instantly. Nothing lazy about saying that at all. We all see it.

All Sheil is trying to say is that for a long time the prevailing view out there in the NFL is that black players weren't smart enough to play QB and the common refrain as that started to falter was they couldn't read defenses, which is an obvious rehash of that same thought. Anyone who isn't racist knows this isn't the case, but it was so prevalent that it makes sense that if you are going to level that accusation at a black QB, in order to be beyond reproach and not let people just dismiss your analysis as racist, you should show your work. He's not saying that anyone who says that is racist, but that making sure it can't be taken that way is the best way to do things.
