Not sure about bolded... that sort of comes with the territory of the new contract.   That puts him on the tier with Mahomes... who is an MVP frontrunner every year.    Hurts' contract puts him at $50M/year average... Mahomes is $45M/year average.    Only Burrow, Herbert and Jackson are higher.   So, yeah... the expectations go up when the salaries go up that high.

He's still young and he's still got room to develop... but its also fair to say that he's not where his contract says he should be developmentally at this point.   The Eagles didn't have much of a choice and pretty much HAD to resign him and at that number... because that's the NFL.  But, when you get paid like that, expectations rise dramatically.  And that's ok.  If he isn't interested in those levels of expectations, then he likely should have asked for a lower salary, because the salary and the expectations go hand in hand.

Mahomes contract was restructured and is now a 52.6 million average.   Hurts is now 5th highest.  Dak will make him 6th

At the same time, the narrative about this team is going to change quick if they drop to the 5th seed with a loss on Sunday. People have been hiding behind being the 1 seed when the flaws have been evident for weeks. That's gone if they fall from the 1 spot. And rightly or wrongly, it's going to be panic city with the fan base if the Eagles get clobbered Sunday.

I still think they end up with the 1 seed if they win out even if they lose Sunday though.

And I think they will probably lose Sunday, but it would be one of those pleasant surprises if they came out and won, which I'm not ruling out because this group is different from other years. They can't get blown out though. I won't be livid if they drop a close one, but if it's ugly then they should be embarrassed.

If they get blown out by the Cowboys and make it 2 stinkers in a row then I for one will lower my expectations in the post-season. As we sit today I have full confidence we beat them and are a true SB contender who had an off week that caught up to us.

Siri was asked about Hurts missing Stoll wide open on the 1st play, and another play Albert O was open but went to AJ Brown.  Asked if he's not comfortable throwing to them or they're not part of practice.

Siri's answer:  he said he takes responsibility in coaching Hurts on what reads on each play.  He said a QB can't look at so much, it slows your processing speed, you can't look at everything.  Siri said Stoll wasn't part of that read on that play.  He says that's how he told Jalen to read it.

Is he just covering for Hurts?  Or is it true that a lot of this is play design?  Siri defends Brian Johnson's play calling by saying they both work on the play design and game plan through the week.  Thoughts?

Video starts at his answer here:

There’s a lot of talent on this team, but they are extremely top heavy where one injury puts them in the gutter. The defense hasn’t been the same since Maddox went down, the offense goes to hell whenever Lane is out, and Hurts has struggled without Goedert. It’d be nice to fill these backup positions in the offseason with guys who are more than just bodies and scraps. At least Driscoll was solid against Buffalo.

🤨

I just want to see them come out for once and look like they have a great game plan that has the other team on their heels. Has really happened only once all season in the Miami game. Saw that a ton last season.

NGL I don't feel good about either option being true. Either he missed it or Nick is simplifying the progression so Hurts can actually execute it.

Big yikes.

We've been playing from behind a lot and late into the games. I think that has a lot to do with playing time.

the Eagles have the best record in the NFL.  Teams that lose more are playing behind more often.

Smith plays 97% of the time.

The Eagles just pretend that they only have 3 pass catchers, and if one gets hurt and out,  it goes down to 2 pass catchers.

Who coaches their guy to look at just one or maybe two options? MS wasn't telling Purdy to do that....so either Nick is a bad coach or he has a QB that he knows isn't capable of looking at more than one or two things....so we agree. Honestly, I think it's the latter because as cool as Hurts is he's anything but in the pocket sometimes. We've seen that one play over and over the last day on here where he right away runs right when he could have stepped up and hit Smith.

Hurts improved last year and everyone was impressed with the jump from his prior year, a more accurate passer, making better reads and looked way more comfortable.  He looks less comfortable and hesitant this year.  The main change is OC.  Maybe Steichen not only called better plays on game day, but in the design of the plays throughout the week and the preparation was better?  I mean Hurts has to take responsibility as well but I thought that was an interesting answer.

Two things can be true at the same time:

The defense sucked; and

Hurts sucked.

No I agree

He had a bad game he also just won us a game a week before, it’s gonna happen

Purdy threw a TD pass to Aiyuk against Seattle that pissed off Shanahan because he wasn’t supposed to be in the read based on the defense Seattle showed.

Edit: Holy run-on sentence.

he won us a game that week after HE also put us in the hole we were in. This isnt something new, hurts playing horrible this season. Hes done it for stretches of almost every game. Hes regressed big time from last year. We have just had game winning drives most of the time to distract from the low points.

Purdy is also a gimmick in the NFL.

Ill be more comfortable to hear if Aaron Rodgers, Brady, Manning, Brees, etc get told NOT to throw to open guys because they werent supposed to be in the read.

If Hurts is only capable of looking at one or 2 things,  then put blockers in,  instead of 2 good receivers and 2 bad receivers.

If that's what Hurts can do, it fits with what the NFL was for many years.   QB, Running Back, Fullback, 2 WR, TE.  If you have a Fullback there who is back there blocking,  Hurts would have more time to throw to the 2 good receivers.

OK! All our worries are over!

Extremely well liked in the locker room.  Ward was probably brought back as insurance against WR injury because, like him or not, he knows the plays and is reliable with his hands.  I actually think bringing him back was probably planned or do we blame the 49ers loss on his brief departure.

Speaking of back, Toth is back on the PS after a rough showing at both G spots for the Panthers.  Don’t know if familiarity or the Eagles see something there.

Kind of a silent signing to the PS was Lecitus Smith.  6th rounder in 2022 for the Cardinals.  Short arms but athletic and wide G.  Issues on him out of VA Tech all seemed like coachable items.  Suspect this was a kick the tires move but note that this time last year is when Howie brought in the Johnsons, of whom Fred stuck.

My problem is you know Goedert is out so switch it up a bit to match the personnel you have. Seems like they were running the same concepts as if Dallas were playing. He's not there and you know he impacts the passing game and run game so throw some wrinkles out there. It was like they were running max protect all game with two viable routes without running max protect smh. Run game doesn't have his blocking bring in a bigger back.

He wore 10 at South Carolina State and 50 in the Senior Bowl.  50 should work for him here.
