I don't want a stop gap veteran LB or a cheap ST guy that they try to put in a starting position.

I want them to invest in a guy who's in or entering his prime. Give me Patrick Queen or Kenneth Murray. I don't see Devin White getting out of TB but he would be incredible too. Those 3 are all 26 and I'd love them on a 3-year deal.

Mack Wilson is a guy who I think is ready to flourish too. Get him out of NE.

I really thought Jabril Cox was going to turn in to a very solid pro but after his knee injury Dallas gave up on him and he hasn't done a think with WFT. I'd take a flier on him as depth/ST athlete.

Get Trotter in the draft.

I understand what he's saying but at the same time...you can tell the top guys are gassed. Nolan needs to be used in a reserve role. It doesn't have to be at the end of the game, but if you use him during the game, Sweat, BG and Reddick wouldn't be bent over, overpursuing, losing contain etc.

Too many 3-yard passes to Aiyuk ended up going for 9 and 10-yard gains.  Slay has to understand part of tackling is to minimize YAC, not just wait for the guy to come to you and let him run through you on the way down.

They fixed their WR problem by continuing to invest in it over and over. When you aren't great at evaluating certain positions, that's the best way to solve it. The difference though is they're more likely to do that at WR since they value that position in the top 4 of positions to value and they value LB nowhere close.

But it would be nice to have at least one young stud LB even if the rest of the unit is meh.

They fixed their WR by trading for a known commodity and paying handsomely for it.  Before that they just failed a lot.   Smith being the lone draftee they landed that seems to be worth anything, but he was a top 10 pick, not a late round pick like they usually have available.   In other words, they INCREASED the investment, and got not one, but TWO WRs.  This team will never make that level of commitment for a LB though, so we should get used to this.   They won't spend a top 10 pick on a LB, nor will they trade a first AND give the guy a $100M contract on top.  Just won't happen.  They will need to just get lucky.

Slay has to understand not everything needs his comments. And as a Captain, he doesn't need to prop himself up and point fingers elsewhere. They went through this last year with him throwing Scott under the bus, but it doesn't seem the message was fully received.

Was that message ever even sent to him?

Yes, someone on the defense whose also a Captain (I believe it was Brandon Graham) said that they addressed his comments about Josiah Scott in the locker room and reminded him that's not what we do here as a Captain.

One of my biggest concerns with the Dallas game is this team is not playing better football than when they played them in Philly. Dallas pretty much did what they wanted to the Eagles defense. What do we think the Eagles do to stop the Dallas passing game?

They can start by not lining Lamb up with Ricks, Safeties, or LBs in the slot. That would be helpful. Have Roby and Slay take turns following him around.

Slay makes a good point that players safety in today’s NFL is way better than before and rightfully so. But his ignorance to one of the best linebackers in Eagles history (at least from 80’s up to now) IMO is not a good look. Joyner could teach his a thing or two about tackling technique without safety issues. Textbook tackles and not just leading with the helmet etc..

if Slay is going into games thinking about loosing teeth and getting concussed while tackling, then he is not fully into the game. Sure, you want to be safe out there as best you can, but you can’t be worried about getting injured. Then you’re missing the aggressiveness… maybe a part of being an older player and not wanting to take the risks you would take earlier in your career/life.

Anyhow, to me it’s comical he went there about Seth Joyner.

I think Desai has to be more creative with blitzing and also doing it more often. Sure, the D could be burnt by a big play, but what’s the difference if they just drive down in 12 plays and score anyway?! I think the risk/reward is greater (possible turnover) than just letting teams drive down at will with the same outcome. If our bend but don’t break defense would come up with stops and keep them out of the end zone, then fine, but they are not consistently doing it so you might as well gamble more.. IMO

My problem with it is Joyner didn't single out Slay and say anything about Slay specifically. The only person he even said by name was Blakenship and it was that he was the only one not afraid to step up to make a tackle. So coming off an ass whooping that saw multiple missed tackles and Roby bouncing off a 165lb Brock Purdy, Slay feels the need to prop himself up about how well he tackled and how great he was in the game. It's the same thing he did after the Super Bowl, and the same thing he did after the Cowboys game last year.

You guys won’t like this, but Slay saying "I think I played a solid game” after the defense got humiliated really rubs me the wrong way.  And I don’t think it’s the first time he’s said something like that.

Aside from weird tee shirts about haters, you’d never see Hurts say something like that after a loss.

He got in an X back and forth with Seth over this, it was pretty much guaranteed he was going to say something else. He obviously feels a type a way about it or at least how it was worded.

Blankenship has taken some ST snaps, but he's so valuable as a safety, I'd rather have the non-contributors pick up the slack.

Will help that Julio will be inactive Sunday, so they should be able to get some extra ST body up there.

Some defensive stats by the Eagles:

This year: 32nd in the NFL on sacks per drop back on 3rd down. Overall on 3rd down sacks. Tied 31st.

Last year. 1st in the NFL on sacks per drop back on 3rd down. Overall on 3rd down sacks last year. #1 by a wide margin.

So their 3rd down pressure by the DL on 3rd down has basically done a total 180. From 1st to worst.

93/166 3rd down conversions the Eagles have given up this year were 3rd and 6 or longer. So the 3rd down defense isn't a byproduct of a bunch of 3rd and shorts. And they're giving up 33% of those(56% total on 3rd down). Just mind-poppingly awful defensive stats.

Eagles when blitzing on defense are 32nd in EPA per play, 31st in success rate.

Stats courtesy of the PHLY show.

I know the D has some flaws, but coaches have to start being held accountable for this.

see my last post, those teams didn't have below average defense play in the Superbowl. Just like the Eagles, played awful defense in the superbowl...the season ranking has nothing to do with the performance

Now how many of those teams allowed more than 20 points in the Superbowl?

Again, I'm talking about performance wise...not rankings...obviously we wouldn't know unless the Eagles are in the SB again if they play better than their "below average" label

So if 20 points is the reframed argument, then we won our only SB with below average defense.  You asked for 3 teams or even just 1 and our team is an example.   Also the Chiefs beat us last year with below average defense.  Here's a list of SB losers who scored more than 20 points.
