Whether the change was necessary or not, this is just terrible optics for a team supposedly competing for a SB.

Worst 3rd down defense, which is definitely scheme related, is terrible optics.  I'm not a Patricia fan, but Desai has been brutally over-matched most of the season.  The change, in my opinion, is due to the players losing confidence in Desai's ability as the DC.

Caring about optics is how bad teams stay bad.

Depends on what lock seattle gets. If he’s competent and not mistake prone they likely have success. If he’s like the end of his Denver tenure the eagles will get a couple of turnovers. Eagles still should look better next 3 weeks. You are gonna get maddox back and Cunningham. Plus facing giants, cardinals and giants. Gonna see how well the defense looks when they likely run into Dallas, lions or SF in the divisional round or nfc title game.

Thing about Lock is he's one of those frustrating, slippery pocket QBs like Sam Howell. This defense has shown absolutely no containment and lane discipline. I just have a feeling Lock can take advantage of the Eagles poor containment and his WR will help him, unlike Eagles WR.

Well…kudos to Sirianni for making the change and trying to fix things. Might not work, but at least he isn’t standing pat.

Not at all this stinks of panic and something forced from above

Matt Patricia is a brain.  I’m relatively confident he will bring some new looks to this defense.    I certainly hope to see more aggressive blitz concepts and the front 4 being used more aggressively, etc

I hope you’re right. Frankly i think a lot of belichick coaches particularly defense kind of road his coattails to other jobs. I’d say offense but really mcdaniels road brady to two head coaching jobs

patriots moving ball with ease vs kc

This does give bad vibes, that doesn’t mean it isn’t necessary though. Both can be true. The Eagles don’t typically make panic moves,it may look like that on the outside, but they know what’s going on in that building. If they thought Desai was competent, he wouldn’t have lost his job. The bigger concern is why they hired him I. The first place.

Yep.  Whenever something like this happens, the players are almost always involved.   Next to zero chance Sirianni, Roseman or Lurie make a move like this without player feedback.

If Howie was smart he’d sign Dom to the practice squad and then just elevate him the next three weeks

Don't even need to elevate him.   PS players are allowed on the sideline.  ;)

Knowing the passion Hurts has for this team and for this game, he would likely need to be nearly hospitalized to miss this game.

Just a guess.

Unless its a preseason game... and he has to poop.

Also, if Lowie ultimately wanted the change…..good.

It’s the right decision either way.

Indeed.  There were some tough meetings this week in Philly.

Look on Fox at 4:25. Here in "commanders” country…the Washington game is on CBS and the Bills game is on Fox

Say this about the Eagles. We're never boring and we try stuff.

I was hoping that we'd see Stoutland get a shot at it.

I couldn’t care less about optics.

To each his own. Optics give outsiders an inside look to what’s actually going on in the NovaCare complex. And this suggests there are serious problems that most SB contenders don’t deal with during the season, especially sitting at 10-3.

It’s going to come down to lock making turnovers or not. Seahawks have a huge advantage at WR with maddox and slay both out. I’d be surprised if seattle can’t managed to move the ball. They played SF with a better defense then ours and weren’t completely inept. The turnovers are really what cost lock and seattle in that SF game.

that said, I think the Eagles looked at the fact they just face three of the top five offenses in the league. And they had no answer to it. So what was going to change when they ran into those teams, and those type of offenses in the playoffs. Probably not much because your personnel is what it is. You  get maddox back but for how long. So what I’ve been saying, you could fire desai. That doesn’t bother me. I think the bigger problem is you’re gonna run into those offenses again. I don’t think Patricia is gonna make up for lack of personnel against those teams. I think when push comes to shove the eagles will look better next couple weeks cause it’s giants and cardinals but the real concern is when in the divisional round you face a Dallas, lions or Sf.

Does anyone think Desai would figure it out for this playoff run? If not, this is the correct decision. If yes, then I understand being frustrated.

Well, I guess if you considered them a SB contender with Desai, then that’s the difference in our opinion.

I don’t think for a second we had a shot with him at the helm of the defense.

We still may not, but I’d at least rather try something different.

When has a team had success with a coaching change during the season?

I mean they are damn near like the worst in the league on D. Couldn't get any worse smh. Desai lost his players a long time ago I'm guessing.

I love it….there was some serious accountability this week…players and coaches.

I know.  They are making Hurts take a separate plane.

What? Bad teams always have bad optics. Why do you think the Raiders or Bears are always punching bags for jokes around the league?

I don’t think he was. But then again i don’t think Patricia is gonna have the personnel to not give up 30+ to a team like SF, Dallas (if at Dallas), Buffalo or ravens when those times come either. I still think this defense is gonna give up 30+. I tend to think when you get to those teams in the playoffs hhe change is going to reflect we don’t have enough personnel to stop those teams enough in order to have the success we want on defense.

The Bears fired their defensive coordinator this season, were laughed at, then immediately got better.

Caring about optics over performance is bad.
