What? Bad teams always have bad optics. Why do you think the Raiders or Bears are always punching bags for jokes around the league?

Panthers too.  Firing coaches after one year mid season.  This is a bad team move.

But the last two games were not the only poor performances they have had was my point.

Ok. They also didn’t have those poor performances consecutively. They also had good performances like rams, Miami and first Dallas game. They weren’t completely inept. This started after the bye and got worse each week.

Honestly depends on which Patricia you get. Early in pats tenure then good. Get later in tenure pats and lions then it’s gonna have same issues. frankly they get back maddox it’s gonna immensely help before he gets hurt again. However morrow at linebacker is still a massive issue and if byard continues to play slow also going to be an issue

"If there were an established defensive coach in the building....  "   What is Sheil talking about.   Patricia IS an established defensive coach... and he's been in the building.   I get that it could appear to be a panic move, but the reason for his criticism is off the mark.   He was DC in NE from 2012 to 2017.   He was a HC in Detroit from 2018 to 2020.   How much more established would he need to be?  Meanwhile, Desai, by comparison was a DC in Chicago... for one year.    Bears went 6-11 that year.  Was the defense good?  Was the problem the offense?   Either way, they all were replaced, and they brought in a DEFENSIVE guy in Eberflus.  Take it for what you will... but when it comes to 'established' coaches, Patricia would be much more established than Desai.

That is a good prediction ... do you have a score to go with it?

21-20 Eagles

Must have been egregious red flags from Desai in the building. They stuck by Gannon and Clay. Wanted to give Gannon more money after the SB this year.

Ashame we don't have anyone with Offensive play calling experience on the team or that change would have also been made.

We all remember how bad Nick was in his first 6 games as a play caller. BJ is the best we have in house this year.

Just like someone mentioned that the players on  defense have not bought into to scheme, you can see it on offense as well.

This has to mean that Brian is on the heat seat

It's also very strange for a 10 win team to make a coaching change

Whether the change was necessary or not, this is just terrible optics for a team supposedly competing for a SB.

Optics don't win games.  If it works, it will be hailed as a brilliant move (and overdue).  If it fails, it will be universally panned as a panic move and the reason for the demise of the team's hopes for the year.      High risk, high reward move.  Either way, this will be a major talking point at the end of the year.

His wording isnt the way I’d have put it. I’m guessing his thought on this is more is Patricia as product that belichick in New England that made him look immensely better. cause his time with the lions without him wasn’t pretty.

Idk, I wouldn’t call them good performances. Yeah, they weren’t totally inept as they held and didn’t completely break, but the D still didn’t look that good either.

Eagles currently the biggest jokes in the league.

Think Patricia was likely purposefully brought in as desai didn’t have much experience as a DC. So if they saw the ship sinking due to DC they could make the move to Patricia who has experience.

Peak blog…defending Sean Desai

They play a style of bend but don’t break. That’s not changing. That’s exactly their organizational and philosophical belief.  Personally, I don’t think they have the personnel to make the defense look consistently good.

Well, I guess if you considered them a SB contender with Desai, then that’s the difference in our opinion.

I don’t think for a second we had a shot with him at the helm of the defense.

We still may not, but I’d at least rather try something different.

Goal of the season was to be a SB contender. And sitting at 10-3 with at least control of your own destiny for the division and #2 seed with 4 games to go means they are still theoretically contenders, regardless of who is the DC.

Gun to my head, no, they aren’t winning a SB with the level of play the defense is giving you right now. I won’t debate whether a change was necessary or not because I agree something different might change things, or might not, but might as well see.

The "bad optics” I’m talking about is more so who made the decision to hire Desai? Who made the decision to demote Desai? The comments from the players this last week as well as stories about players complaining about the offense or the Byard story about scouting Seattle suggests there are serious problems inside the team. This news just reinforces that something isn’t right. It’s feeling like 2019 all over again.

To each his own. Optics give outsiders an inside look to what’s actually going on in the NovaCare complex. And this suggests there are serious problems that most SB contenders don’t deal with during the season, especially sitting at 10-3.

When was the last SB contender on the wrong end of back to back beat downs where the defense allowed 11 consecutive scoring drives... (9 of them in a row for TDs)?

SB contenders rarely find themselves needing to even consider something like this.  So, its a novel situation.  We'll see how it turns out.

The Eagles extended Michael Clay after having the worst special teams units I. The league. If they are replacing Desai then they must think he’s doing a terrible job

Or they wanted to make sure they could get a pencil at a moments notice.

Well this kills the infinite monkey theorem. Dammit. With all the typing on this board over the past two weeks, nobody put "Patricia replacing Desai" on the board. I'm going to go hang out with the flat Earfers.

Yes I felt that way as well. Patricia was a late add since he was let go after the staff was hired. I would agree if Patricia was available when they were first selecting the new DC/OC they would have chosen him over Desai

The Bears fired their defensive coordinator this season, were laughed at, then immediately got better.

Caring about optics over performance is bad.

Bills also fired their OC mid season and have looked better offensively with Joe Brady running things.  And I'm sure everyone is hoping that they have something special lined up for the Cowboys later today.

It’s not about "caring” about bad optics. It’s about "having” bad optics. Bad optics means there are bigger issues that are hidden. If we’re comparing us to the Bears and looking for signs of optimism. we are in trouble.

Giants coming back down to earth. Of course it happens against the Saints.

Thinking about it don’t you think Patricia already has some influence on the defense? So it might not change things like we think?
