Well, the plan was to cut him until Vick 2.0 swooped in with one of the more unifying acts of leadership the franchise has seen.  He was gone if not for that.

Highly doubt he was going to be cut outright. Suspended by the team for a game, maybe. But not by the NFL, as evidenced by what transpired. From what I remember, Vick only had to convice Chip, not Goodell. Dumb players should keep racist comments to themselves, but between the two comments here, one was far more egregious than the other, and the player still wasn't punished by the league for it.

Met him and Jack Fritz at the dbacks/Phillies game out here in Arizona. Sat the row behind me. He was super nice to me and friendly. Completely obliterated but nice. Also didn’t sound like he new very much about baseball as Jack and i went back and forth.
