So, many of the expected economic benefits of marriage and the two-parent family are not equally available to black children." https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/09/opinion/two-parent-family.amp.html#aoh=16376915417840&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&_tf=From %1%24s Isn't that like...a small sample size, though?

She said we should examine how generations far closer to slavery - up to and including having former slaves among their number - managed to accumulate wealth. Because that's a lesson anyone, regardless of race, should be able to learn from. The answer is always the same: a stable home life with parents invested in their children's future, and a prioritization of education. It's not complicated. It's the same reason Jews as a people outperform most others, and why the protestant work ethic earned a name. The Tulsa race riots were 60 years after the Civil War. You’re really confounded that blacks were able to build up small businesses in that amount of time?

You’re really confounded that blacks were able to build up small businesses in that amount of time? No, I'm not confounded at all. I'm not really sure even what point you're trying to make. There is no doubt that Tulsa is representative of both the vehement headwinds and hard ceiling that black Americans trying to compete on equal terms have faced in this nation since the end of the civil war. I don't think the Lt. Gov would deny that either. Even so, the success of the black community to build a vibrant and healthy, if segregated, community both culturally and economically during that particular period of time is something we should all be able to appreciate and admire - and learn from. You took her words as saying something she did not say. I'm not really sure what else can be said.

She brought up the Tulsa race riot and acted like the lesson to be learned was how blacks accumulated wealth. The outcome of the Tulsa race riot is that black businesses were destroyed and many blacks living in Tulsa were left homeless. Acting like there’s a positive to be gleaned from it is incredibly stupid.

I'm sure the reason Jews have continued to prosper after WWII was to ignore what made them successful and fixate on the Holocaust. Yes, that's a very harsh and dark comparison. Probably even in poor taste. But it's not wrong. Recognizing what had made a people successful does not mean forgetting a tragic and horrific event visited upon them is lunacy. You seem to think there's some either/or situation here. And that just makes no sense.

Whites often lynched successful blacks because they resented their wealth (of course accusing them of a crime in the process). When it comes to lynchings do you think we should be focusing on how succesful the black person was who was lynched???
