weird story.

this dude was arrested back in like 2001 for allegedly possessing nude images of underage persons. charges were ultimately dismissed when it was determined they could never prove whether he'd actually possessed them (they had been deleted and recovered). Murnan claimed he didn't intentionally possess them and deleted them when discovered.

his record was ultimately expunged, and he's spent time since in education roles teaching and now as a principal. no subsequent charges have ever been filed against him from what I can tell.

he's gay, and doesn't appear to be in the closet. and he is also a drag queen, obviously.

I'm not going to specifically defend him, but I also don't know that it's fair to say someone should be disqualified from being a teacher or principal solely based on being gay and/or a drag queen. he appears to have been well liked in his role as an educator and principal, and Oklahoma is already having a helluva time hiring educators.

I didnt even read what she was posting about, I just laugh how in one breath she claims there's a systematic effort to place "pedophiles" in charge of children, and then in the next she cries foul when her low-IQ fanbase starts to see conspiracies everywhere.

lol yeah I get it, just that case is also strange.

personally I don't have any issue with a gay man being a teacher. I'm fairly certain my kid's 2nd grade teacher, who is the same teacher that his older brother had, is a gay man. it'd be crossing the line for him or any teacher to start talking about his/her sexuality to 2nd graders, but there's been zero complaints about that - and it doesn't matter that he's gay, it's just not appropriate.

I also really wouldn't care if the dude ended up being a drag queen on the weekends because that's his thing. again, provided that it doesn't impact his role as a teacher.

I don't really view it any differently than I might finding out one of my kid's female teachers goes clubbing in a sexy dress on the weekends. as long as they're present as good teachers when my kids are there it's all I care about.

the charges that were dropped are the most troubling. on one hand they were dropped, so the guy is essentially clean from a criminal standpoint. but he didn't deny he possessed them even if it was unintentional. that he hasn't had any subsequent issues supports his assertion. and I am not someone who thinks one mistake ought to wipe out a person's entire career - given that his career has been successful and he's had no issues or complaints, I tend to think he's fine.

not ideal though for sure.

Yeah this pervasive right-wing narrative that all transgenders are mentally ill drag queens, and all drag queens are pedos trying to groom, recruit and/or molest your kids is no different than what we heard about gays and lesbians 20 years ago.

My doctor said I shouldn't hold in farts, so....

ahh. There we go.

much better.

There are days where I'm ripping so much ass that I start to wonder if I should get myself checked out.

Teachers are held to a different standard. Especially when it involves accusations of a crime concerning children. That said, the charges were dropped, which leads me to no foul, no harm. I'd still keep an eye on this one.

On a related tangent, there was a totally different case where a female teacher was fired when it was uncovered she had taken professional nude model photos in college. She had no complaints from the school prior, all reports from students and staff said she was a good teacher. Yet the school's parents conspired to get her fired anyway.

Teaching is one career where one mistake could wipe it all out. It doesn't even have to be a crime.

Owens openly courted conspiracy nutters and fanned the flames. So it is funny she complains about them now.

Yeah that's just dumb, uptight, puritanical, BS. Her taking nude photos when she was in college has no bearing on her suitability as a teacher.

Perhaps some of that is true, but a loud plurality has spent more than a generation beating up on teachers and minimizing their contributions to society - in many cases actively attacking teachers for doing their jobs.

You squeeze them financially and kick them around and you're going to find it difficult to hire qualified normal people to educate the next generation.

This helps explain the current teacher shortage many are facing right now.

I have some family genetic fart ability. My father had it, one of my three sisters, myself, and my oldest daughter. We fart daily, and usually, loudly.

Wow I can't believe a mom who exploited her family for a reality TV show would do such a thing.

Yep, nobody wants to be a teacher or a cop right now. They were already thankless jobs to begin with but the last 3 years has pretty much turned away an entire generation of young candidates because of how dogshit awful either job has become.

I've got 27 years in right now, and as much as I'd love to see some of my best math students get into teaching future generations (since the number 1 indicator of student success and future ability, at least in mathematics, is the competence of their instructors- not saying that poor instructors can't be overcome), I couldn't in good conscience recommend a future in the field to anyone given the direction that things have gone in the course of my career. I remember those first two weeks after the Covid shutdown when it seemed like every parent I knew and every friend I had on social media talked about how important teachers were and thanked me for everything that I've done, but since then things have gone back to normal, if not worse.

When I applied for the position that I have now in 1999, there were close to 100 applicants for that job (admittedly, I have about as amazing of a position as you could ask for in the public schools)- now, we have trouble filling most, if not all of our positions. Last year, it took up until the very last day before one of the teachers in my department went on maternity leave to find someone to take her position for the remainder of the year, and even then we ended up with someone who was emergency certified. I almost talked a 78 year old retired college professor out of retirement to do it, but he observed the classes that he'd have for a few periods, and told me, "thanks, but no thanks"...
