September 3, 20205 yr Rep. Clay Higgins has spoken at events organized by militia groups. When a rumor spread of a Black militia group protesting police brutality, he said their armed presence would be considered a threat and he'd "drop any 10 of you where you stand." https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/salvadorhernandez/republican-clay-higgins-facebook-post-threat-armed

But we have handled it poorly

But we have handled it poorly Most of Canada's population is right across the border. But yeah, the 9k vs 180k is misleading. But half the number of deaths per million is still doing much better. The better argument for that though is that Canada doesn't have a NYC that is a huge international hub. They certainly have big cities, but nothing like a NYC. The big story though is that while most nations have gotten their death rates under control through public health policy, the US continues to lose ~1000 citizens per day to this: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/total-covid-deaths-per-million?tab=chart&year=2020-04-28&time=2020-03-21..latest&country=CAN~USA
September 3, 20205 yr Thank you for the population density graph (roughly what I was thinking because who the F wants to live in the Northwestern Territories). I think we are in agreement. As for your point about the deaths continuing to rise, I cant help but wonder that if you eliminate, the "But muh Freedoms" mask refuses, the protesting, and the riots, (big three spreaders IMO) , do you take the top off this graph (starting mid June) and see a similar trailing off And yes, all 3 groups I mentioned would probably exist if leadership had a clear, calm path forward from day 1. Joker was right, people remain calm as long as things are going to plan. Instead? Powder keg.

I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that protests were in open air, not because protests themselves magically protect people. open air doesn't necessarily prevent the spread, but it does help quite a bit in that it makes it more difficult for enough of the virus to transfer. I think mask wearing in public is the biggest thing. if you look at where the spikes are happening late, it's undeniably tied to areas that have taken this virus less seriously. The only outlier there is California, but Newsom relaxed more early than other more conservative (from a public health standpoint) governors.

Especially on open air. Schmoopie and I have had lunch\dinner at a restaurant several times now. Every single time it has been outdoors. The only times we have eaten\drank inside was: 1) Grabbed a drink before dinner where the only people inside were us and the bartender (and the opened up the side of the restaurant (had these wall panels that were removable making the whole side virtually open)) 2) Grabbed a beer before going to a 12 year olds birthday party. Was in a huge warehouse converted into a brewery and there was only one other couple in there and they were sitting in a far corner.

I just realized I was reading your story out of sequence. On the surface, it sounded awesome, like the kid wanted his party at an arcade but the parents were like "F you, Billy! We're doing it at a brewery!"

I went inside just to be seated outside initially, but noted that the place was basically empty (there was a couple of girls in a corner booth). I decided it was pretty safe to grab a seat on the other side of the place rather than eat out in the 95° weather. Just now, VanHammersly said: A 12 year old had a birthday party at a brewery? as the parent of an 11 year old, yes that is the perfect place to have a kid's birthday party.

Two separate dining experiences we both had the waitress tell us "Oh, you can take your mask off" Schmoopie: It's fine, we would rather leave it on Waitress: It's ok, I'm not worried about it

We weren't very happy with how casual they were. We know now the places that take it seriously.
September 4, 20205 yr Barr straight up lied to the American public. The DOJ staffers had to step in front and take the bullet.
