Well, they at least do have two years they can void with Dak but the dead hit is quite large...I wouldn't call him a lemon, but I wouldn't call him lemonade either...he is what Jerrah wants and deserves...mediocrity. Fans deserve better.

If your vehicel keeps failing you in the most critical times at what point do you replace it?

I know the cowboys are up against the cap, but if they wanted to cut ties with Dak they could.  A cut would be only 2.5 million extra in cap space, but you save 29 million overall.

I'm wondering if this is why they did the restructure: It wasn't done so they could mane another move, it was done so they could carry him as a post June 1st retirement?

Pre June 1st: $62,290,000 dead in 2024 for a $37,316,668 loss in cap

or

Post June 1st: $23,763,333 dead for $1,209,999 savings in 2024 and $38,526,667 dead in 2025

What I DON'T understand is why even do it at all.  I don't have the previous cap numbers to compare it to, but if they really did convert 13.79 million.... why not just carry him anyway instead of paying out that 13.79 million of 2024 salary?  My only guess is that there was an option that triggers to guarantee his 2024 salary that was going to trigger?

I think retiring now stops his salary guaranteeing on the 5th day of the league year or the dead cap would in the 40's

Explain why Howie went out and brought in Genard Avery for experienced Defensive Coordinator, Jim Schwarz.

The Eagles HAVE done exactly that, in the past.   The hope is that they have learned the lesson and no longer do that.   But, along those lines, they also traded for Golden Tate, which made no sense in that moment either, other than he played WR and the Eagles desperately needed "WR" help, despite the fact that his game didn't fit the Eagles' actual need.

Exactly, was just about to reply to afan to bring up Avery and Tate. Square pegs in round holes is hardly uncommon for us.

Getting a pet is inviting a minor tragedy into your life.   Well worth the pain though.

Yup. The pain is as bad each time but worth it. My dog just turned 13. Survived a surgery to remove a tumor and then the chemo afterwards. Wouldn’t trade the time we had/have or doing everything I could for him to have a couple extra months and hopefully years.

Surprised he didn't just try to go to another team. No doubt he could get another payday and another ring

You’re assuming he doesn’t actually want to retire?

I don't know about that. They were a pretty dangerous team down the stretch, and as long as Stafford is healthy, they've got some talent in Kupp, Nacua, Williams, and Atwell to build around. Defense is gonna be pretty busted with Donald gone though, but as a unit, they were still good enough to keep them in games last year.

I'm pretty sure Kupp was using K-Y instead of Stickum last year. His reception percentage went from low to mid 70s his entire career to 62%.

I have no idea on the details but did they actually pay out the money in the restructure or did they just cut his base salary? Thinking it might be like what the Eagles did with Alshon Jeffery and Malik Jackson, cut the base salary now to give immediate cap relief and Post June 1st them instead of just Post June 1st'ing him and not getting relief until June 1st.

with 62m in dead money though...might as well have him play this year right, voiding the last two years would ultimately be cheaper?

Edit: NM...make him a post June 1 cut...

No. Just surprised he didn't want to go to a contender and get more

Cox and Kelce could have played one more year and made another $10M, but at some point, health matters more than money.

Another Galaxy-brained thought: The Eagles weren’t willing to wait out the WR market for bargains and took the bird in hand with Parker. They had Barkley, Huff, LB and safety ear marked for bigger budget salaries and didn’t want a player they saw useful get away.

Okay? Not sure why you brought them up

Aaron Donald pocketed $157M in cash. He seems like a smart guy and shouldn't be hurting for money.

Berman doesn't think they will or need to add a WR before the draft. Just his opinion, I disagree. I'm guessing for whatever reason they just weren't interested in anyone. I think that could prove to be a mistake, but I think if they wanted Noah Brown or Cedrick Wilson, they'd be here. They didn't get paid a lot.

Berman thinks they go WR early, perhaps as high as round 2. I think round 3 is better for that sweet spot, but we'll see.

Like add more crap?

Interesting hearing other teams talk about the FA negotiation process. John Schneider said they lost out on Brooks because they were focused on getting Leonard Williams re-signed and didn’t know how much of their budget would be available.

We had to say goodbye to our 16 year old mini schnauzer two days before Christmas. That night I had a few beers and put on a movie to forget about things.

Pro tip:  Guardians of the Galaxy vol3 is the WRONG movie to watch after you lose your pet.

🤷‍♂️

They brought in a double-digit sack guy in Huff, an off-ball LB in Devin White, and a versatile (?) DB in Gardner-Johnson -- who the Eagles defense seemed to miss last season.

I'm hopeful (in defiance of reason) the Eagles will invest some draft capital in the back 7 on defense in this draft.  Hopeful, but somewhat lacking in confidence.

That’s what I was doing a poor job trying to say.  I couldn’t see the history but there may have been a trigger like that.

Agreed.  I'd steer clear of Marley and Me, too.

Galaxy Quest would be a winner, IMO, if you want to stick the "Galaxy" title.

This is what I saw

Quote

Donald restructured his contract for salary cap relief in 2024. The Rams converted $13.79 million of salary into a signing bonus. The move saved the Rams $9.2 million in cap room for 2024. That mones is added into the final two void years of the contract.
