We 'used' the equivalent of a 4th round pick.  That's the same price Howie has thrown away on guys like Kevin Byard, Golden Tate and Genard Avery.   This is a much more valuable lottery ticket.   Low risk, high reward.

Still, it's not like signing a guy off the street and just cutting him after camp if you want to. That would be just as much of a waste as trading for Byard, Avery, Quinn etc.

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

They certainly did him dirty but he had a better chance to beat out a washed Russ than Hurts

Except with far more upside than run down aging vets.  Well worth the minimal risk.

I don't think he will have the opportunity to win the job.  Pickett makes too much money.  Just like last year with Mariota even though he was clearly better.

Pickett's salary this year is less than $1M.

Sad face.

He’ll be here by monday

Seems Diggs might be on his way out of Buffalo

When you have experienced coordinators who know what fits their schemes, you don't go to your scouts and add square pegs to round holes.

I'm pretty sure they sent cut ups to both coordinators before FA started and asked if they saw a good fit. And I'm sure Howie sat down with them and asked what they wanted at each position. Scouts don't tell you what a player is worth to you, they tell you about a player, his strengths and weaknesses, character, IQ, physical attributes, instincts, etc. Then it's up to the FO to determine who is a good fit and what the reservation price (maximum you are willing to pay) should be. If scouts knew who fit what scheme and how to use players, they'd be coaches.

I think Howie would have targeted Huff and Barkley regardless of the DC or OC. I am sure they sat down with the coaches.  I don't think Fangio looked at the defense and said the biggest hole was a pass rushing Edge player.

Looked better playing eith bums than Pickett looked like playing with good WRs.

Wow,  we agree on a QB. End is near.

Looked cooked at the end of last year.

Yeah, well... besides that.

Odd. Did he have a say in who he was traded to? He won't get a chance to start here

Not sure the Eagles will add another safety, it was too good to be true that they'd do more in the back 7 than CJGJ and Devin White.

Only 1 year 5.2m for Fuller too...

Cheap too.

I just don't see the upside. Best case scenario we don't see him play a single meaningful snap.

The trade and process in itself is "fine" I guess, although I would have just signed someone cheap and keep the pick.

Correct.

I believe he will be better here than he was in Pittsburgh.

And we don't need him to be our franchise QB. Just a capable backup. I think he will be that.

He's a guy that can fill in for the inevitable game or 2 if needed.

Eagles just need to sign Xavien Howard to complete the offseason of "names casuals will know!”

I think the Panthers got him.

Either go high end backup or let McKee have his chance.  McKee looked better in preseason last year than Pickett has at any point in his pro career.

People put way too much stock into preseason.

Pickett is 3.8M this year and 4.5M next against the cap. 50-75% cheaper than most backup QBs. Just like the White signing were not married to either. The only thing I don’t like is giving up our 3rd (or moving back the equivalent of 4th rd value)

No. His salary this year is $985k and next year is $2.6M. The roster bonus is all on Pittsburgh. so, two years for ~ $3.5M.

Untill a good LB drops to where they would have been. Stupid move. He is not good.

The upside is we have a backup QB with starting experience behind a QB that gets dinged up.  If he plays and plays well, he could be flipped for much more.

He's really good trade deadline bait for another team that has some QB injuries. We traded essentially down in the 4th round (our 3rd was a comp pick) and gave up 2 7th's for a young cost-controlled QB that has some upside as better trade bait down the road. I think we're all way overthinking this. I'm much happier with him than a Mariota.

Exactly.

And you think Howie and company would have identified and drafted him?    Hope springs eternal, I guess.

No word on Simmons? Feel like we’re going to get him.. just a hunch. A gut feeling

Sua Opeta to the Bucs. He was kinda meh.
