A big point to notice is "based on playing time” it becomes a 4. Very likely that isn’t in a trade to Philly because playing time wouldn’t be realistic. They probably straight up asked for something close to maximum steeler trade value

Nobody is considering this. He has a fighting chance for playing time in Pittsburgh. No way in hell in Philly.

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

I am always a believer in having a very mobile backup QB. Backups get basically no reps in season, but a mobile player can come into the game and make plays at least.

Not a huge deal, and maybe the Bears wanted a 4th from us (and possibly Fields didn’t want to come here with no chance to compete).

It will be funny watching all the "analysts” who claimed Fields is good have to justify the compensation.

Man you'd think the Eagles traded away three 1st rounders for Pickett the way it sounds around here. Goodness

I hear you, but while I think Fields is terrible, I still think he’s a lot better than Pickett. Obviously the Eagles, and the league, disagree based on the trade comp.

I like the league disagree with you as well.

Fields has a 3.2 million cap number for the Steelers this year as opposed to just under 2 million for Pickett.  Thought Pickett was 985k, but apparently he has an almost 1 million roster bonus.

1.2 million of cap doesn’t justify this.

Pickett might be a good passer here.  Fields never will. Eagles must have wanted a QB not a runner.

It’s the second year of the contract that matters here. Fields will be a FA after this season.

I would prefer Fields if all things were equal.

Every single GM in the NFL told Poles and the Bears that Fields sucked.

Pickett is cheaper and signed for 2 seasons. And if Fields has to start, we still got him for less than what the Steelers paid.

The Pickett trade has to be evaluated in the context, as receiving a $4-6M valued player per year that we got in the deal, for each of the next 2 years. That could be a Julian Blackmon, for instance.🤞 I'm willing to underpay a #2 QB who doesn't play every game for a potential every down player. It's a waste to pay $8-10M to some journeyman retread backup QB, that we usually sign here.

This is all I could find on Oren Burks

He'll fit right in

Heck yeah he could have been QB2/RB2. A twofer

Oren Burks is also a very good LB4. Strong on ST. Can start in a pinch. Can't be a starter for multiple games.

That is a WAY better deal than the Eagles did for Pickett. C'mon Howie... wtf. The Eagles gave up the equivalent of a 2024 4th to move down. The Steelers gave up max of a 2025 4th for a better QB.

Big picture. TWO years of a cheap backup QB/additional cap space versus ONE year. Also the whole "better" part is extremely debatable.

Why can’t they both be crappy starting qbs?

And, I'd assume there are some teams around the NFL who still think Pickett could be an NFL starter. The Eagles aren't the QB Factory that everyone assumes, but Pickett has the potential to be flipped next year. I'd wager a team could pay a higher price for a QB on the final year of his deal and 5th year option still available.

Seeing as Siranni doesn't play his starters at all in the pre-season (a mistake IMO), Pickett should get lots of tape out there in a more QB friendly offense than he would have had in Pittsburgh.

That’s probably the final big domino in QB carousel this offseason.

Any team looking for a new QB is going to have to do it in the draft now

I don't think it's all that debatable and I say that as someone who doesn't think Fields is very good. Kenny Pickett threw 13 TD passes in his last 24 games in the NFL. Which is virtually impossible in a now offensive driven league. He got outplayed by Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph. Significantly outplayed. And those guys suck.

Kenny Pickett may have been the worst QB in the NFL in 2023. You can make a legitimate case that he was. I don't think people realize just how bad he was. And how bad he had to be for the Steelers to hand Russell Wilson a starting job and pursue Justin Fields to replace him.

No.

We live in a world where Bryce Young, Jimmy G, Zach Wilson, etc. exist.

Imagine that. The eagles would have had to use a draft pick to take another backup QB. People would flip. On top of that, the value we gave up was that of a 4th rounder. Concede that we gave up a 3rd rounder- this draft is QB top heavy and by round 3 there is no one worth while. Picket is better than anyone we could have drafted in the 3rd round, or 4th, or later.

It was a good trade.

Yeah that's pretty dead on.  Worst QB in the NFL last season is a debate that comes down to Kenny Pickett or Mac Jones.

You can make a case Pickett was worse or as bad. I didn't say it was a slam dunk. If you look at everything and what they all did, they all were about the same level of awful. But Pickett getting vastly outplayed by Mason Rudolph puts it over the top for me. Josh McDaniels was poison and Bryce Young was a rookie with no offensive weapons. To me it's a toss up between Zach Wilson and Pickett.

Looking back on Oren Burks, he was a long and athletic LB. 6'3'' with long arms. Excellent jumps and 3 cone drill. 4.59 40. Former college safety who was new to the LB position and still learning. Played LB 2 years.

Could explain his mid-round projection, and slow to bloom in the NFL. If he started looking better in SF thats promising.

Probably just a special teamer here. But maybe he is just hitting his stride.
