So they failed, they had more than enough money under the cap to land one and they just failed. Great

A lot of teams had cap money. They lose out on guys all the time.  That old Spadaro 'if they really wanted a guy they'd get him' is not true.

That said trying means nothing.  At the end of the day Howie gets judged for the team on the field and if they win as it should be

Where is the backing of the Pickett better QB than Fields narrative?  13 passing TDs in 24 games as starter.  Both are crappy QBs but this bizzaro narrative some here are trying to push that Pickett is a better passer based on absolutely nothing shown in the pros is odd.  Like what exactly does Pickett offer?

A cheap contract with starting experience for the next two years with a possibility of development.

Some. Both suck

Lost Cox. I know we expect a leap but Cox is still a contributor from last season not replaced. Also Avonte is not signed and no one is really there.

Good call. I was thinking about FA additions and forgot about losses.

Soaked up snaps of returning DTs < Cox

Hopefully Milton steps up this year & we also see more from Ojomo as a role player.

I'm not down on the moves but I'm not bullish on the current state of the defense for sure.  And if Reddick is moved for a future pick then I think it's a net negative offseason for the defense where we sit today.  I do think Fangio will do more with what he has but still a weak back 7 is hard to disguise against good teams

Kempski thinks they will bring Cunningham back at some. Which I’d actually be fine with. Also thinks bringing Maddox back is still on the table.

Didn’t Maddox sign with the Saints?

No I could definitely see Maddox back

Was this after the Burks addition? Honestly, I don’t think there is really room. I would assume he’s behind Van Sumeren at this point.

Dean-White (starters)

Burks-Van Sumeren (good special teams players)

Hopefully we make a draft pick at the position. If not, Cunningham can still wait until Dean gets injured.

Why did he get hurt?

he was playing in a pointless game?

he was overused in the regular season, as was Smith, who was also hurt a couple days earlier, in addition to the Hurts injury (hindsight says he should have come out, Mariota should have come in - win or lose, doesn't matter, the Eagles are in the playoffs and their QB and hopefully all the key players are healthy)

there is no reason for the Eagles to have both Brown and Smith on the field over 90% of the time.   Tyreek Hill is on 67% or so.  Much more normal to have more limited use.

The Eagles tested "2 WRs, 1 TE, rb mix" last year and it worked to 10-1.  it worked to that extent.   But then all the key pieces broke and the Eagles started losing.  There was also a defensive collapse caused in part by giving up 34, 42, 33 in 3 straight games to 3 top teams.

It was before the Burks move.

Not sure what level development you're expecting.  Guy with a poor attitude and character that is older than our starting QB and has been terrible as a pro despite being drafted into one of the best organizations in the league.  Also not sure what starting experience is worth when all that experience is pretty bad.  Eagles should have just rolled with McKee.

But the post you quoted trying to say that Pickett is a better passer than Fields has no real backing based on what they have both shown in the NFL.  Both are bad but there is nothing Pickett has shown that he's a better passer based on both of their pro careers thus far.  Neither would have been a trade I would have been for the Eagles making.

Man, I don’t know why I had that in my head that he signed with New Orleans

Need to add more young talent through the draft, and early on.  I think they value Blankenship and Brown highly enough it makes safety unlikely, but early picks at CB and LB begins to change the overall look of the defense.

The biggest upgrades are the two coordinator spots. That will raise everyone's level.

It’s just so frustrating that we had a few linebackers that seemed like a good fit, and we’re stuck with a square peg in a round hole. I hope White balls out, but he really feels like Ernie Sims 2.0. CJGJ is fine, but I don’t feel like he’s a plus, so those two additions aren’t going to be as impactful as their reputations suggest IMO. I think Huff brings some serious juice, so I’m happy to have him. Of course, Fangio is very good, and that should make a big difference in and of itself.

Sure,  you've got me beat on "laughing memes"

And Outlaw is outstanding at daily personal attacks without punishment whatsoever.

But I did post a short 5-10 player list of udfas here and/or the other Eagles site, VanSumeren was on it,  they did take him,  and he was the best ILB last year as a udfa rookie.

Also,  last year,  same thing,  but Ravens and Keaton Mitchell,  who had the best PFF of any running back last year.

Very few of you are even here on day 3,  very few are pushing out a wish list of free udfas.    Thumbs up to the handful that are here and are paying attention to the players who are not famous.

I don't see too many people tooting their own horn here,  because so few of you are talking about players who aren't famous.  So many of you praise yourself by saying things like "I didn't attack players the Eagles decided to get as much as the rest of the people here."   Not impressive.

I mentioned Covey before the 2022 draft,  VanSumeren during the 2023 draft.

Why don't ALL OF YOU combine your quality ufda picks - add them all together - and we'll see if I have better output,  or if all of you combined have better output?

What I've done,  just here on this site seems to have surpassed everyone combined,  and I do it elsewhere and have done it often.

If there was a prize for attacking the team you supposedly like,  you'd win that, not you specifically, but collectively,  but that's not something to be proud of at all.

Show the outcomes,  the obscure players you found.

As a Browns fan back in 2016,  I had a really really close approximation of the 2 stage trade that got the Eagles the Wentz pick.

Collectively,  EMB doesn't like me.  That's fine.  I don't care when,  largely,  not all that great people don't like me.

Man, you were a Browns fan in 2016? So you joined this fandom around the time we won a superbowl? Then you want to act all high and mighty like you know so much more than us about the team we’ve followed our entire lifetime? Cmon dude, this is why we don’t like you. We have watched Howie’s entire GM career unfold, we know his MO. I’ve begged for years at the tv on draft night for him to take the CB or LB, only to grab another linemen. You keep telling us OL isn’t a 2024 need, thing is WE KNOW THAT. We want the CB! or the LB! Or the S! We all want defensive help. But we also see all the writing on the wall. Howie likes to draft succession plans in early rounds because he’s done that in the 2019/2022/2023 drafts, Lane is at end of his career, we have a ? at RG, it’s a strong OT class in the 1st round, Eagles have an extra 2nd round pick, to help out other needs on roster, Howie loves lineman. We are trying to get that thru to you. You should be debating all of this with Howie Roseman, not us.

They see something about him that you clearly don't. I don't follow the guy but makes sense on paper. Hopefully we never see him get significant time the next two years but he has no pressure and can work on his game while holding the clip board.

I got Giant fan coworkers telling me they got "even" taking Stoll from us.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is more of a July conversation, but if Jalen Carter with a full off season (which he didn’t have last year) makes the leap, that can make the defense a top 15 unit.

I'm in agreement.  I like CJGJ's turnovers which I think is a plus but I don't think he's great overall safety. Upgrade tho from last year imo.  Yeah White is a longshot to be the answer.  Maybe not the longest of longshots but not a good shot.    I think Huff helps if you keep Reddick because then you have 3 guys who can be double digit sack guys plus the young Georgia crew who you hope steps up.  Slay is another year older. Ringo is a wildcard and yes they can draft a CB in rd 1 but they might not and they definitely might not get it right if they do.  LBs in rd 2 face the same situation
