This is more of a July conversation, but if Jalen Carter with a full off season (which he didn’t have last year) makes the leap, that can make the defense a top 15 unit.

Agreed, hopefully he keeps his head on straight.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

In general I have no problem with the philosophy that you want a great offense that will outscore people and a good enough DC that he will prevent the other team from scoring every :censored:ing possession and get a few turnovers

Was just going to mention this. Don't know why people are using that as some sort of positive argument for him. It really just points out how he's a bust relative to his draft position

A first round draft pick is going to battle it out for the backup position after being in the league for 2 years. That's not a selling point

People bring up Steelers being a mess of an organization. Chargers are a freaking mess and yet Herbert was putting up stats

The chargers have talent…the Steelers have Pickens, a guy who makes Diggs look like he cares when the ball isn’t coming his way (or coming his way).

No

Is Solak ok?

Has he even watched these players?

Where is he wrong?  Daniel’s that high is crazy to me.  It’s like thinking Penix is a 1st round QB.  he was terrible before, got on a team with talent and looked good.  Nothing about his game changed, just the talent around him.  All the worts are still there. He’s a massive project.

When is Watkins gonna be gone?

Pretty sure he’s a FA so already is gone

I googled him before I asked and he's still listed as a n eagles' player.

OL & WR lack bodies.  I wouldn't be shocked to see them bring Driscoll back cheap.  Can definitely see a high OL pick as usual.   WR definitely doesn't seem done.  Parker shouldn't be a lock for the roster.  Lots of possibilities in the draft and I agree with others that they should look at Boyd at the right price now

That's the best way to win in this league. High flying offense and opportunistic defense

I hear you, but while I think Fields is terrible, I still think he’s a lot better than Pickett. Obviously the Eagles, and the league, disagree based on the trade comp.

This probably answers that question

Yup. Poles said he wanted to do right by Fields (and more likely his agent).

They see something about him that you clearly don't. I don't follow the guy but makes sense on paper. Hopefully we never see him get significant time the next two years but he has no pressure and can work on his game while holding the clip board.

I wish they could say what they see that I don't.  There is nothing statistically that supports that Pickett has been some better passer than Fields as a pro.

As for him to work on his game holding a clip board. He's shown nothing but character flaws.  Took so poorly to being demoted in Pittsburgh he refused to dress as the emergency backup and then the team decided to trade their 1st round pick QB for a pick swap from a 4 up to a 3 and then less than 24 hours later trade for the QB that people in this thread are trying to say is a better passer based on absolutely nothing shown in both of their pro careers.

Huh that’s weird. He’s completed 4 seasons & Eagles have never extended his contract. He’s listed on Jeff McLane’s tweet from 3 days ago as Eagles still listed free agents. Maybe someone just hasn’t updated his info yet

No idea how this could be accurate.

Because we only spent real money on 2 guys and Howie probably added void years/option bonuses to keep the first years cap hit down

Need to add more young talent through the draft, and early on.  I think they value Blankenship and Brown highly enough it makes safety unlikely, but early picks at CB and LB begins to change the overall look of the defense.

I bet they don't pick LB until pick #120. If Reddick is still on the team my guess would be

#22 - OT/CB

#50 - OT/CB

#53 - WR

#120 - LB

trying to appease loud fans,  I'm sure it's fun for them to have to do it that way.

Or, the 6 position on the offense is "230-250, run, block, catch, maybe throw"
and these really great athletes that the Eagles have at the LB position are going to do things they've done before on offense.

Or maybe all the LBs will be mixed together,  each doing all the stuff.     I'm not a fan of 240 pound DL,  they get run at,  successfully.  It's a known problem.  I think it could be great if all the DL who are on the DL be big.   But, it's a 3-4.  3 in the front,  4 in the back.   The edge is set by the DL,  and there are 4 linebackers behind them,  and they could be doing anything from pass rush to run defense to pass coverage.  They're all about 230-250 and so many of them are as fast as fast cornerbacks.   Some would be able to play Safety.  Nolan Smith did play ILB some last year,  he's raw at it but it should work.  But they could just be used interchangeably.   Maybe one of them is excellent at covering the best TEs in the NFL?   On paper,  Nolan Smith and Ben VanSumeren and Reddick and Devin White and the other new ones should be able to cover the top TEs.   Maybe not,  but how about one of them being able to do that?  One of them good at covering rbs?   Often the pass rushers at edge could just rush from inside.   And there would be 4 of them to stop a ball carrier.   run blitz. pass blitz.   Something like that seems good to me,  230-250 pound lbs are easy to run at on the dl.  4 big and fast lbs flying around behind the los, blitzing.

he was playing in a pointless game?

he was overused in the regular season, as was Smith, who was also hurt a couple days earlier, in addition to the Hurts injury (hindsight says he should have come out, Mariota should have come in - win or lose, doesn't matter, the Eagles are in the playoffs and their QB and hopefully all the key players are healthy)

there is no reason for the Eagles to have both Brown and Smith on the field over 90% of the time.   Tyreek Hill is on 67% or so.  Much more normal to have more limited use.

The Eagles tested "2 WRs, 1 TE, rb mix" last year and it worked to 10-1.  it worked to that extent.   But then all the key pieces broke and the Eagles started losing.  There was also a defensive collapse caused in part by giving up 34, 42, 33 in 3 straight games to 3 top teams.

Why were they playing in a pointless game?

Man, I don’t know why I had that in my head that he signed with New Orleans

He was supposed to be visiting them but haven’t heard if he did yet.

Really? How so?

Dude is 5th in line for snaps after Reddick, Huff, BG, Sweat.

No other way to look at it.  He might get less time in year 2 than year 1.  If that’s not a completely wasted pick, what is?

No I get all of that, I looked it up too after your comment. But he’s finished his rookie contract, & is a free agent.
