  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Hennessy shouldn't be able to beat out Steen; he played OT in high school and switched to C in college.  I think he only played one college game at guard -- mind you, that's one more game than Steen played at guard.  Still, Steen has 15-20 pounds on Hennessy and we would hope Stoutland has spent the past year getting him practice reps at guard.

It'll be interesting to see where these guys slot in.  Steen will either be a starting RG or a swing OT.  Hennessy will be a backup IOL and start at C if Jurgens goes out.  We'll have to see if the Eagles still have any plans to bring Jack Driscoll back.  Apparently, Opeta has signed with Tampa Bay.

I'm not sure why everyone is so down on Steen. He never played G in college, and he filled in and played OK in the first game against Dallas. The fact they went with Opeta over him, given his lack of experience, wasn't really a surprise nor some horrible condemnation.

I want to see what he looks like in training camp after a full offseason with Stoutland. I think we draft a guard as well, but the job should be Steen's to lose.

I'd pay to watch Steen play RB for a series.

I'd go Cooper, Wilson, Gray in that order in R2.

Yeah fair enough. I'd go that order and then Colson, but by then it's beyond the second round.

Still, Payton's age and injury record keeps me worried.

I'd say he tried to be strategic with it.   But, there's also the classic clip of him on the sidelines saying (paraphrase), "If you're gonna blitz our QB, we're going to blitz your QB."   And I think that's one of the lasting memories of JJ.   He was never married to a single game plan and was willing to adapt to in-game situations.  And, one of the things that we as fans enjoy is that when our QB is under fire from the blitz, we want to see the opposition having to deal with the same thing.  Sitting back in a soft zone and letting the opposing QB pick the defense apart, while your own QB is constantly under duress is very frustrating to watch as a fan.   JJ was willing to dictate to the offense rather than letting them dictate to him what was going to happen.  He also had wrinkles that he'd unleash at times.  I recall the game against Brady during their undefeated season.  He unleashed Chris Gocong that game, and I have to say that that game might have been his best as an Eagle.   And while the team lost that game, the prevailing thought heading into the game was that they were going to be destroyed.  They lost by a FG, with AJ Feeley starting the game... and they might have found a way to win if Feeley hadn't turned the ball over 3 times!  The Eagles made Brady very uncomfortable, and Spagnuolo basically used that blueprint against Brady in the Super Bowl... but with much better talent on the defensive side and they pulled off the upset.

JJ wasn’t particularly strong at halftime adjustments.

I’m just reading the tea leaves. We’ve been bringing in a lot of guards for top 30 visits and it’s not because they want depth.

Fair enough, and I think we grab a guard with one of our top 4 picks. And we need the depth with Opeta and Driscoll being gone. Steen is the backup RT is my guess, so if Lane goes down, he'd kick out there. I'm not saying Steen is a locked in starter, but I'm not sure why people think he was a failure last year. 3rd round pick switching from tackle to guard was never going to see meaningful snaps as a rookie.

The ideal would be to bring in a RT prospect who can cross train at guard and push Steen in TC while also being the long-term answer to replace Lane.

Justin Simmons will end up being the latent contract/deal when he and his agent finally relent. Can only hope they end up seeing eye to eye with Howie.

So he's going to play middle linebacker for us. Sounds like square peg round hole...

It's not just Opeta over him, Steen was ahead of Opeta for a few weeks, fell back behind Opeta and then wasn't even dressing at the end of the year. It was very odd in an almost meaningless game against the NYG where starters were pulled after a Quarter that Steen was in street clothes for that game.

He still is very much unproven and will have his chance to win the job next year. It might just be they think he's more of a T than a G at this level.

If he was confident in those baby mitts he wouldn’t be hiding them right there

Am I the only one who doesn't want Cooper DeJean. The scariest phrase you can hear about any CB prospect is "Might be better as a safety." I remember hearing that about Malcolm Jenkins coming out, he sucked as a corner, was moved to safety and thrived.

I want someone who has lockdown corner potential or I prefer to just go OT in the first round if that option isn't available.

probably more like Kelce said, "Keep my QBs name out yo F'n mouth!"

Nick's not cocky enough to say it himself.

When is his pro day? His athletic testing will be interesting. I remember watching some highlight videos of him and his instincts just jump off the page

Same thoughts here. If his athleticism and discipline can hold up in the NFL, he could create one heck of a tandem with CJGJ in the secondary.

Brandon Coleman another G to keep an eye out for

The common fan is now a peasant. This is way too corporate and IMO, takes away any sort of home field advantage they may have had. I'm sure all of those suites and cubs will be full of loud, rowdy fans who want to make noise.
