"Girthy" is such a fun word. It's technically a completely benign adjective but it immediately makes everyone who hears it at least slightly uncomfortable.Ā

Back up nose guard?

Nevermind to that 3-4 end talk, probably here to give Davis a breather. Team captain in college, seems like a quality locker room dudeĀ

Who will so assuredly be better than Reddick on defense this year?

almost as good and much cheaper while bringing in an asset in trade?

I don't really know,Ā  but sometimes you want to have cheaper players who do basically the same thing.

I'm not really a fan of OLB/edges who aren't or can't be ILBs.Ā Ā

OLB/edges get big money because they get a lot of sacks and they get a lot of snaps because they're pure sackers at a position that allows pure sackers the capability to make sacks.Ā  230-240 players are generally not all that good at run defense, especially when the point of the play is to have a big guy block the edge guy.Ā Ā  There's a disadvantage all the time with the run.Ā  If there was a big DE there,Ā  260-290,Ā  they wouldn't be putting runs inĀ  direction quite as much.Ā Ā

It's not a big deal,Ā  but the bigger edges tend to be better at run and the smaller ones better at pass rush.Ā Ā Ā Ā  What I think defenses noticed is that, generally,Ā  it's the small fast ones who get more sacks.Ā  What defenses could consider trying is putting very small and very fast players in the designated sacker position.Ā Ā  A mammoth giant tackle is said to have difficulty with smaller, faster rushers.Ā  Quick first step and all that.Ā Ā  What if the sacker position was filled by Xavier Worthy with a 4.21 40?Ā Ā Ā  Sackers are currently getting $20 Million or so for 11 sacks?Ā Ā  If you just use the fast little guys in rotation,Ā Ā  you might get the same results at lower cost.Ā  Not being as good at run defense is something acceptable with smaller OLBs because they get more sacks,Ā  should also be acceptable with very little players,Ā  LBs, DBs,Ā  anyone on offense who might bring something to the sacking table.Ā  A DL of 3.Ā  Big players,Ā  and sackers between them instead of outside of them.

Looking at the Colts' depth chart, they don't have a single speed rusher on the team. They have the cap space to absorb Reddick immediately.

I don't blame Ballard for not wanting to negotiate with Howie after the Carson Wentz trade.

I think the Lions could be a good fit too. Put him on the other side of Hutchinson and go all in before it's too late.

Kinda have to be careful with that one. You don’t really want to be strengthening a team that was just in the NFCCG

Why do the Eagles invest in iDL in RD1?

Ā

The fact that it seems like very few teams are interested is why I don't think it's a foregone conclusion he gets traded. Reddick will not approve a trade unless he gets the money he wants. I think the new contract is the bigger issues than the draft compensation. I don't see any team in the NFL giving him the money he wants. And once he realizes he won't get it, then I think the Eagles will be open to keeping him. I don't believe they want to move him, I think they only want to move him because he wants more money. But if he can't get it from a new team, then why would Reddick want to leave town?

All signs point to him being traded, but if a team was willing to give him that money, I think they'd have done it already while the cap room was still at a surplus. I think there's a chance his agent comes back to the Eagles, say you were right, the value for him isn't there, and they agree to a new deal where he gets 18 million with incentives that could push it to like 22 million based on sack production or something, and they go into next season with all of these guys and then figure out who to keep and who to get rid of after 2024.
