If you're comparing Hurts to the light RBs the Eagles have, then yes.

But you can put anyone -  big heavy players - under center.  If the Eagles were to do that, that would also work.

And why is D Smith on the field in those situations?  Why put players who aren't big and strong on the field when the play is push and shove forward?

Getting the most snaps for a WR isn't that impressive a stat.

No. You can't put anyone under center.

His weren't even that big, just squared off. But yea, pads were HUGE. How much faster could Hershel have been in today's gear?

Also, I know one is a day game and one is a night game but geez how bad did Nike F up Kelly Green?

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES HERSCHEL WALKER Highlights - YouTubePhiladelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts keeps his eyes down field for a 25-yard throw to Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith

Maybe this is why the game is more dangerous now. The technology of the pads are to the point that these guys aren't losing much speed from it weighing them down. I wish when I played my pads were form fit. More range of motion to catch and everything.

So if he's hired based solely off that zoom call, we're crap out of luck? That should be grounds for appealing imo.

I don't know.  If they hire him - regardless of zoom or in person - I thought the comp picks rule for losing a coordinator to another team is separate from the Rooney Rule for interviewing.

Also, I doubt any team would hire a coach based only on zoom.  That would be a first interview, then a 2nd interview in person.  Belichick did a 2nd interview with Atlanta.

So, if that's how it works then teams aren't just using Brian Johnson for the Rooney Rule.  They're seeing how he does in 1st interview then deciding on 2nd interviews.

No. This doesn't have anything to do with the comp picks.

No team would ever hire a HC off of only a zoom call anyway.

You're right, no appointments are made without at least one face to face. Maybe I was curious about a sequence of virtual calls and when that rule would kick in.

In any case, it was an extreme hypothetical I was curious about.

Over 2 hours now.  The whole gang is coming back.

People point and assume too much about the Rooney Rule.

Yes, some teams have sham interviews (see Brian Flores). But that doesn't mean every minority interview is a sham. This is the first round of interviews. Some of them are favors to get their name out there. Some of them are to pick different candidates brains either about different philosophies or even who they see as upcoming and coaches they would want on their staff. Some is to build a rolodex if they ever need to hire someone for a different position or consultant role.

I said this the other day. Falcons have interviewed 6 minority coaches before Brian Johnson. Whether they have legitimate interest in him as a HC or not, they clearly want to get to know him for something other than just fulfilling the Rooney Rule.

This, good stuff.

Especially about seeing who is out there and potential coordinator candidates as well. Most teams aren't hiring a head coach that often, so it's an opportunity to hear from the different minds out there.  You might want coaches from different coaching trees, to learn about the different philosophies and trends, and pool together information.

When the Eagles fired Doug, I know Lurie didn't plan to but they lost out on other coaches.  They've currently lost this entire week.  I wonder if that's part of Howie calling around.

But... this is the nonsense the Rooney Rule creates.

Sorry if already posted. Antonio Pierce will be hired permanently.

Or it could be, "Ok, what else do you have?”  Aka next.

Eventually the "nexts” run out and we’ll have our answers.

Why do you say that? Get rid of the rule and the same things would happen. It's information gathering and vetting. It's good practice.

Is it racist of me to say I know which one I'd be picking?

I would want the high school running QB.
I would not want the one with the first name of a consumer product.

But combine numbers.

Ask Duce Staley what he feels about the rule. He was the poster boy for checking the box.

Agreed... the same things would happen without having people point and say that they are only doing the interviews because they are fulfilling the Rooney Rule requirement.  No rule, and there's nothing to point at.

Can't believe this is my first time seeing this.

Just goes to show how much of a chode Nick truly is.

I hated Antonio Pierce as a Giant. One of the biggest agitators I just couldn't stand, but he was good. He's going to be an even better coach and that's the perfect team for him. He fits the Raiders way and that team is going to have his identity. They are going be be nasty, they will probably play a little dirty but I bet they are in every game.

2+ hours.  Maybe Jeff is kicking his ass.

What happened to Hurts this year, I wonder? Even before the collapse he just seemed miserable the entire season.

no you don't.

Other coaches won't work for you when you punish success.
