So they saw a tackle basically once per game, and then that once per game only 6.5% of the time someone missed time for it? Is there a way to find the total amount of tackles for the entire season? 230 out of however many thousands of tackles, and then injuries on 6.5% of that is an insanely low number.

Probably looking at a less than 1% chance of injury per game because of that tackle

Judging by the film, 90% of the illegal tackles were by the 49ers.

Not sure why.

because those are players that you're talking about.   Also, I can't remember which of these pictures I put up.

If people are talking about players - I might put a ras compare up there for some objective data.

Xavier Thomas exceeded those numbers.  those are combine numbers.   His pro day numbers had - 253 pounds,  4.56 40 and 1.55 10 split.

Also,  there aren't too many players who are going to have better numbers than Xavier Thomas.  I would say that he'd be drafted on day 3.   You've been suggesting that he won't,  but he did go to the combine.   Maybe yes, maybe no.   But if you swap in   253 pounds and 1.55 10 split,  that's good stuff.

Add any automatic first down as well.   Or, crazy idea... limit how many of those penalties there are.  🤔

There should be no automatic 1st down penalties at all. The only penalty on offense that results in a loss of down is intentional grounding, none are automatic 4th downs. It's incredibly stupid to give up to 3 free downs for say, defensive holding.

I get they want offense, but manufactured "offense" via penalties is not fun to watch.

Yes you can see how it's calculated.

oh,  link to that?    I know that sparq was a mystery.

There are some that should be penalized with an automatic 1st down like launching helmet to helmet IMO

And people on here will say he's a genius

The draft is building for the future. When thinking of this past 2024 who are the edge rushers? Huff and Smith? I would understand the pick if they went DE/Edge

Agree 100%.    More than that even!

Interesting...  Eagles will trade Reddick to Temple.

Howie basically saying Zack Baun is their Van Ginkel. That's the biggest answer in regards to his role yet.

For WR blocking, it's going to be hard for them to really get into the solid range because in most cases they aren't going to be in the area so they won't really be putting much effort into it. If on the opposite side of the field, their grade might be negative for that play, but the result of the grade would be meaningless if the play was on the other side.

Here's the thing ... WR blocking can help each play, but it's more important to have a good WR that is willing to block (like Smith and Brown) than a WR who outside of his blocking contributes nothing else as a WR (like JJAW).

I was pointing out the run blocking aspects.  Wrs aren't likely to pass block all that much.  Smith and Brown had low run blocking scores. Brown should be able to run block well,  because of size.   Often size has a lot to do with blocking.

I don't think it's that important for Smith and Brown to never leave the field, even on run plays,  when their run blocking PFF averages 50.   Smith and Brown never leaving the field was a problem last year,  after the wins stopped and the injuries started.

For most NFL teams,  the starting WRs do not play almost every snap.   I was noting last year that Smith + Brown led the NFL in WR duo snaps.

Yeah,  you can take the good catching WRs -  Brown and Smith are that - off the field and replace them with blockers with lesser catching ability.

Yeah, it's not really a service average fans should pay for. Just wait for the people who make a living on social media to post the information. Anytime you want to see a player's current PFF score, just google "[player name] pff"

googling  Eagles roster pff also works well.

However,  if you're not paying,  you're not going to be able to get more breakdowns on run blocking,  or coverage.   You'll just get overall score.  It's still good,  it's still something,  but you get more if you pay, or if someone who pays puts the data up.

My goodness, James Bradberry was really terrible. He ranks 101st, and he was supposed to be a starter, which makes him probably dead last for starters.

I mean, I know he was bad, but here it is in black & orange.

Ricks was 122

How much would that free up if they do end up trading Reddick? and yeah I hope they extend Devonta sooner rather than later. Seeing some of these WR contracts this offseason like Jerry Jeudy's makes you wonder how much Smitty is going to get.. probably around 25/yr

nvm I see Reddick would be 1mil in savings

This year's savings might be 1 million.

Total savings is around $15 million.

The Eagles have structured every contract, pretty much,  to have a lot of the cap hit in the future whenever the player leaves.

If the Eagles were to trade Reddick, all of the old bonuses that are spread out onto dummy years go to the cap now,  or now and next year.

If the Eagles keep Reddick,  they have to pay him $14,250,000 in base salary this year,  and that money goes to the cap this year.  In the future,  that 15-20 or whatever million goes onto the cap then.

Meanwhile in Sam Francisco.

What are the SF sidewalks?

There were 272 games in the NFL last season and 230 hip drop tackles. The NFL allows players to tackle without their arms wrapping and do nothing about it.  If they cared about player safety, they'd focus on the latter to make players tackle better.

And Hark Knocks coming to the Novacare at some point?

Baun turning into Van Ginkel 2.0 would be a real nice addition to this defense.

If only Van Ginkel was available.....

*Cough*

Bo on the hip drop tackle rule:

"I think there's a connective thread with Republicans trying to tell women what to do with their bodies to owners telling players they know what's best for their bodies even though the rule change is unpopular with players."
