Executives around NFL reportedly think Commanders will draft QB J.J. McCarthy at No. 2

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on Monday that executives from other teams believe the Washington Commanders could be eyeing a quarterback projected to be further down the draft board with the No. 2 overall pick.

"When I've had conversations [at the NFL annual meeting] with executives from other teams, who know [Commanders general manager] Adam Peters well, know the situation well, the most popular answer for what they do at No. 2 is J.J. McCarthy," said Pelissero.

There was a big odds drop today too for him. Hes not the favorite but he went from +2000 a few days ago to +550/600.

Zero percent true

Well he's under contract so it would have to be a trade if the Eagles got him.

And he just had surgery in January and lost his starting job last training camp. I did like him coming out of the draft. I guess if you can get him on the cheap lets roll the dice there.

I don't think it's that important for Smith and Brown to never leave the field, even on run plays,  when their run blocking PFF averages 50.   Smith and Brown never leaving the field was a problem last year,  after the wins stopped and the injuries started.

For most NFL teams,  the starting WRs do not play almost every snap.   I was noting last year that Smith + Brown led the NFL in WR duo snaps.

Yeah,  you can take the good catching WRs -  Brown and Smith are that - off the field and replace them with blockers with lesser catching ability.

If you want to go 3 TEs for a running play, that's fine, but if you are planning on using a lot of RPO, you need to keep actual receiving threats out there.

Last year, I feel like defenses were just too prepared for our offense and were able to recognize concepts too easily and that limited the effectiveness of the WR blocking. I'm not sure why you don't think Brown and Smith are good at run blocking --- they usually are above average. Even Watkins last year had some nice blocks here and there. Sirianni really emphasizes blocking in his WR room.

This is incredibly bad.  I think we just banned tackling an offensive player.  We should just put flags on players and be done with it.

And this is case in point, that just looks like a good clean tackle.  He went down hard, but that's football.

Trying to wrap my head around the fact that that is now NOT a legal way to tackle someone in football..........🙄

we were looking at the run blocking last year.   someone put those PFF numbers up within the last day.

All the wrs and rbs had PFF run blocking scores under 60 last year.  That's Brown and Smith,  but also everyone else except for Julio Jones.

Further confirming PFF is garbage

For sure not.  Even if they were actually leaning that way, a trade down to #3 or 4 would be the way to do it and add assets

Everything was down last season and that's a big reason why we squeaked out wins early and lost games late in the season. Everybody on the team (including the coaches) needs to perform better this season. But just because players had lower grades last season does not mean they can't improve them this season. I tend to believe in Smith and Brown as blockers. As I stated earlier, WRs, especially ones that play a lot of snaps, are very unlikely to get a run blocking grade all that much higher on the season. I bet there are less than 10 starting WRs (that played at least 75% of the team's offensive snaps) that have a run blocking grade over 60.
