I’ve been out of pocket for a few days so I’m getting caught up on the interviews at the league meetings. Sirianni didn’t even mention Steen when talking about right guard? My lord. Literally everything is pointing to the Eagles not seeing him as a guard.

To be fair he was really cagey the whole time. He basically revealed nothing about the whole situation. Which is definitely a bit overkill but it seems like they just don't want to reveal their plan publicly even if it is Steen.

I think they drafted him as a Driscoll replacement. A guy they never viewed as a surefire starter who maybe could be one with Stoutland's tutelage, but mainly insurance in case they have an injury. I think they could've found better ways to address that than pick 65, but I digress. One of those 2nd round picks or that 4th rounder will be used on an OL. I'd be stunned it it wasn't. I think the Eagles starting RG in 2024 will be a rookie. Christian Mahogany or Brandon Coleman are two they interviewed early in the process. Eagles interviewed Jalen Carter early last year too. Might've been the first guy they met with last year. Or the Eagles were the first team he met with. One of the two, I forget. They usually interview guys early they really like.

My issue with the Eagles drafting mistakes are far more the logic than the evaluations.

I don’t believe for one second the Eagles drafted Steen at the top of the third round to be a Driscoll replacement. He was announced as a guard, and I think they saw him as the RG of the future and at worst potential swing tackle.

But the tea leaves are not looking good for Steen.

* Beat out by Opeta and then replaced again by Opeta after one spot start.

* The team seems to be interested in every guard prospect under the sun, including using top 30 visits on them.

* Sirianni straight up didn’t mention him when talking about the right guard competition.

Here's hoping Harris works his same magic with the Commanders at least

Stoutland clearly doesn't like something about Steen. Stoutland is probably the only coach in the entire building that can tell Howie to Ef Off, and Howie will oblige.

Morey's master plan was sign a guy who will be 35 by the time next season's playoffs start. Dude has been the biggest con in the city since he was hired. He thought getting Harden would cure all his ails, it blew up in his face, and he has this as a backup plan.

And btw the guy he acquired at the trade deadline who he dubbed "The best player any team acquired at the deadline" has been demoted by his coach and his minutes are in decline. And that's with the team plagued with injuries.

Morey has been a disaster.

and he JUST got a contract extension in the summer. Team is real smart. Couldnt see what a fraud he is already.

Or Stoutland can access an olinemen's ability and simply saw the that rookie wasn't as ready as players who had benefited from years of an NFL-level program. Why the conclusion that he doesn't like something about Steen? Steen was a rookie.

and udfas.   john rhys plumlee QB/WR (424 mock draft database) would be one.   udfa costs nothing.  might be the fastest QB available,  had over 1000 yards rushing in a season with Ole Miss,  was also a WR for Ole Miss.  practice squad, special teams.

and, yup,  John Rhys Plumlee had a great pro day today.

Stout should have had some serious intel on Steen being a Bama guy and all

The strength of the Oline gives the team the ability to develop players. On the other hand...Dillard.

This.

Steen played tackle at Vanderbilt and Alabama. New position, new system here.  It takes time to assimilate all that and Stoutland is not one to rush players before they’re ready. Seumalo, who became an excellent guard, had myriad problems. It took him more than two years to settle in. Opeta was mentioned but the Eagles let him walk. If anything that suggests he may be ready.

Stoutland can turn chicken sheet into chicken salad at a good rate but he's still human. See Chance Warmack who he actually coached at Bama and here.

I think they let Opeta walk because he isn’t very good and they signed an upgrade with Hennessey who can also play center.

Can't stand him. He's overrated as a commentator. His shtick with predicting the plays doesn't even work most of the time

Yup - Romo spends a lot time talking about penalties real and imagined… it’s not entertaining.

I agree whole heartedly with the underlined/bolded.   That was the original plan, and it was how they began his development in the NFL.

Steen might just be a disappointment in the eyes of the team.   But, right now we are trying to read tea leaves.   It will be unveiled as we move forward.

I would've rather had Zaccheaus than Campbell.

All the talks about RG.  An OT to develop and replace Johnson should be one of the priorities, IMHO.  An early pick is likely, if the team wants a quality one.  It looks like Steen is considered as OG, more than OT.  Even then, guys don't think he is a sure thing to claim the G position.  Then the team is targeting a good number of OGs in the draft.  Is it a smoke or real intention?

The problem with having 2 stud WR's (plus everything else on O) is if you don't draft a #3 guy, you are going to be in a continual cycle of signing either washed up veterans or guys to 1 year deals who won't want to come back after being ignored on offense all year.

I definitely foresee a WR in their first 4 picks.
