I get why people are upset. It makes us worse in 2024. But it'll make us better in 2025 (cap space) and a day 2 pick in 2026.

It's a move smart organizations do.

Right when AJ leaves and the peak of Hurts’ cap hits start

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Also, lol at people whining about the Eagles paying the 1 million roster bonus.

Great!  Job!  Eagles!

Howie should’ve waited til Monday. This isn’t head into the weekend type news.

Why would AJ leave?

If Hurts is playing well, then the cap hits are fine.

As you see the reaction is very negative so that's precisely why it is being dumped on a Friday afternoon during the Phillies home opener.

The Eagles obviously see more than I’ve seen in Nolan Smith, and if he and Huff can put up double-digit sacks off the edge over the next couple of seasons, then they’ll have gotten younger and saved some money.

Reddick likely wasn’t happy playing under contract last season on the Eagles terms and insisted on top dollar or not showing up for camp.  It’s a tough trade to make, but they had to take what they could get without having much trade leverage

Exactly why it’s a holiday weekend news dump during a Phillies game

Making us worse now doesn't make sense considering we're supposed to be in a SB window

With Haason Reddick gone, there is now not a single player on the roster with a 20m$ cap hit

All his dead money accelerates to this year because it’s before June 1st. It’s a $1.3M saving in cap space but with the report the Eagles are picking up that $1M option bonus, it will only be $300k I’d guess.

It frees up some cash, but not cap.

It frees up just under 15mm in 2025 I believe by accelerating everything to 2024. That’s the only thing to like about this debacle.

That's highly debatable

Read this on Reddit that the Jets EDGE with highest percentage of plays last year hit 55%, so get comfortable with it only being a third round pick.

67% or 10 sacks. If there ever was a guy who was a lock for 10 sacks though….

They must have been sick of Reddick

Yeah,  must've been that.

Only 130+ IQ genius types could tell the Eagles had 2 expensive starting olb/edge players and they could only keep one.

I guess some people are disappointed that the Eagles didn't sign Huff and then immediately trade him.

I think the Eagles must have had good reason to believe that Reddick was going to be a distraction this summer amd season playing out the final year of his deal amd they want to erase the bad vibes from the end of the year and try to work with a positive energy locker room heading into the season.

Watch him hover around 65% all year

Bigger as in Darius Robinson? What type of DE is a Fangio type of player

Bigger as in 255+ pounds.

Reddick is 240.

Smith is 238.

Huff is the big guy at 255 in that rush LB role.

Sweat and Graham are both 265 . I’d look for some one around that weight or more if they don’t give up pass rushing potential.

I thought it had to be both? Maybe I read it wrong

Maybe Howie will follow this up with a trade for Lattimore who makes like 19m next year and looks at it as Huff + Lattimore in 2025 is > just Reddick.

I'm just hoping for something to make it make more sense. Reddick is so good. Jimmy Kempski made the point on his podcast last night that Reddick may have been the MVP of the entire NFL in 2022 if you include playoffs considering he led the NFL in sacks including playoffs and won them the NFCCG by himself practically.

This offseason sucks.

I don't wanna hear crap about Howie right now, this is a disaster trade. So much for defense. The guy needed assistance building this defense and its obvious now. What a seriously weak off-season Howie had with the most money we ever had to utilize under the cap.

A Simmons signing doesn’t even make up for this

When you point out where I said it makes the Eagles better than we can talk.
