Just now, Sack that QB said:

Jimmy Kempski made the point on his podcast last night that Reddick may have been the MVP of the entire NFL in 2022 if you include playoffs considering he led the NFL in sacks including playoffs and won them the NFCCG by himself practically.

This is an insane take. Wasn't even the best player on the 2022 Eagles.

Maybe it was Reddick who banged another players girl

All his dead money accelerates to this year because it’s before June 1st. It’s a $1.3M saving in cap space but with the report the Eagles are picking up that $1M option bonus, it will only be $300k I’d guess.

It frees up some cash, but not cap.

Frees up a lot of cash, actually.

It frees up just under 15mm in 2025 I believe by accelerating everything to 2024. That’s the only thing to like about this debacle.

Yea it helps next year. But even still, had the money not accelerated in 2024 they could in theory have more money to roll over into 2025 to offset that anyway

I guess the relationship with Reddick was more toxic than we all realized. I thought Sweat was the more dysfunctional one, but doing this leads me to believe they wanted Reddick gone no matter what.

I still wouldn’t have done it. Keep him for the year and go for it.

We HOPE Reddick has a good year in 2024, elevating our 2026 pick to a second. We HOPE Reddick falls off in 2025 along with the Jets and we get a high second in 2026. We get room this year for Simmons (HOPEfully) without blowing through our cap space.

I also think Fangio doesn't think Reddick fits what he wants to do very well.

I HOPE I'm right about this.

If Reddick doesn't fit then how does Huff?

When you point out where I said it makes the Eagles better than we can talk.

You said it’s highly debatable that it makes us worse which means you must have an argument for the opposite

67% or 10 sacks. If there ever was a guy who was a lock for 10 sacks though….

It’s 67% AND 10 sacks

I think Kempski pretty clearly meant defensive POY

Take it easy, Adam

Sure

Huff had one less sack than Reddick last season in a fraction of the snaps. Smith is a first round pick who needs to play. I love when people **** about how the Eagles need to get younger and then when they decide to get younger and not give a huge extension to a 30 year old player people also ****.

Seriously though. With how this team likes to kick the can and turn salary into bonuses, that $13.5M or whatever is valuable.

I still think they go CB or OL in round one.

Pure RT at 22 for the loss, capitalize on Howie's usual junk drafts

Cap space, optionality on a 2nd round pick, got younger and better run D with Huff. Lots of things that aren’t as high profile as sacks.

I think that’s part of the problem — it’s a fairly complicated opportunity cost on our end but a straight forward big name player on the other end.

His cap number for 2024 drops by 1mm and he is now zero on 2025 instead of almost 15mm. So the net cap savings is about 16mm.

Still not a fan at all.

Edit: since we are paying the roster bonus, 2024 is probably a wash and we just freeing up 2025. Had we kept Reddick and paid his salary, we would have had the same cap in 2024 and the dead cap in 2025. His 2025 dead cap accelerates to 2024 but is offset by the Jets taking his salary. So all the relief is 2025, but there wouldn’t be 14mm of rollover if we kept him and paid his salary.

Maybe we can use the 2026 pick to get up to 20 to take another DT

Watch him hover around 65% all year

Yeah not meeting that criteria. 10 sacks should be a lock though provided that he doesn't get killed on that horrid field.

Um, lol, no.

I don't think it makes them significantly worse or better. It just makes them younger. I love how people just ignore the fact that Huff had one less sack than Reddick last season in a fraction of the snaps and act like because Smith didn't do much as a rookie he is a lock to not be good I his second season. They will be fine at edge rusher.

That is really the only thing that makes sense.  I do remember Reddick being a real problem on the sideline in one of the games at the end of the year. Maybe he ended up being poison in the locker room.  Clearly something was very wrong with the chemistry over the last six or seven games.

Oh well thank god that you know we will be fine there. Now I won’t lose any sleep.

Reddick was injured

People get upset when Eagles keep old players that aren't playing well

But have fun with people being unhappy about the trade and enjoying everyone's reactions. Weird thing to love but do you

There's no guarantee Huff will be as successful with more snaps though. It could very well be his threshold to stay healthy and effective for all we know with his small sample size. All we can do is hope for the best at this point. Go Huff!

Only if he can sit for at least a year..

Maybe. It is somewhat valuable on its own but it’s hard to say how valuable that really is without knowing their cash budget and cash spend for 2024.

Huff and Reddick really aren't comparable right now. They may be a year from now, but Huff has one breakout season and Haason Reddick is one of the NFL leaders in sacks over the last 4 seasons. It really isn't close as we sit here today.
