I don't think Howie liked that he was vocal, even that one time, about his contract.   This, to me, is 100% a Howie thing, and nothing about Reddick as a teammate.

Perhaps though it isn't a typical numbers win for Howie.

I can only imagine the complaints we'd be reading if Reddick was extended and followed that up with a sack total that slipped a bit more. Everybody would be criticizing Howie for "holding on to players too long ..."

Most people are miserable F's who love to whine and complain about everything.

I was a "fire Sirianni" guy at the end of the year.  It was his job to hold things together and he clearly didn't do that.

On the other hand, players should never be getting into a beeotch match with the head coach on the sidelines during a game.

The reverse is true as well, and we don't know who started the screaming.  Coaches should never get in a screaming match with the players either... and since we've seen Sirianni being uncontrolled in the past, I give Reddick the benefit of the doubt.   Sirianni seems to be the one that gets unhinged much more frequently.  And there's the Big Dom discussion about him as well.  Big Dom has to have him on the leash.  That's ridiculous for an NFL HC.

I'm still on the fire Sirianni bandwagon.

The writing was on the wall for Reddick when they drafted Nolan Smith, who seemed to be a Reddick clone.

Long term, sure. But if Reddick was open to a restructure and Sweat was holding out for more money, I think they keep Reddick one more year and ship off Sweat. They might have preferred trading Reddick but I don’t think he was singled out for any particular reason besides that’s just the way things happened.

A thought,

What are the odds Howie uses that conditional 2026 pick to trade up in the 1st this year.

I see he's learned nothing from last year. Rob Thompson will be the downfall of the Phillies, not the players.

I think the Phillies downfall is going to be their hubris to think that just bringing the same roster back and doing minimal upgrades was enough. Really the only addition they made was merrifield. You weren’t good enough last year to beat inferior diamondbacks team. ( the Diamondbacks rotation is absolutely ridiculous when you go look at it. They added Eduardo Rodriguez and Montgomery. They have the best rotation in baseball).  The bullpen is basically the same add Orion for the entire year. Who knows what exactly he is. He had a rough playoffs. Dominguez and Soto need to be more consistent this year. Your rotation is already down Walker who wasn’t all that great last year. Add on who knows what Christopher Sanchez is. He pitched the most innings of his career last year. There’s a chance where he sees a decline. And ranger suarez has yet to stay healthy for an entire year.

I kind of think the Phillies are gonna get eliminated in the NLDS or Wild Card. Their wildcard matchup might be the diamondbacks or the Dodgers depending on who wins the NL West. And that is going to be a tough matchup.

frankly, I thought they should’ve tried to move on from Castellanos and keep Hoskins. Hoskins it’s a type of hitter they need who grinds at bats. He might be in a cold slump, but he’s always going to see pitches and he’s always going to make the pitch work. Casty is the exact opposite of that. And frankly the one year of Harper in the outfield isn’t going to massively deteriorate him. As you move on from Rhys after 2024 and have Soto in the of in 2025 with Harper at first

That ship has sailed.  At least for now.

And the latest "facts" would then say that Reddick regressed badly. Not that I believe that, I just don't let pessimism effect my expectations one way or the other.

I still don't get this regression take when he did what he typically did production wise since moving on ball. He's gone though go Huff .. hope he balls out

Hoping he takes a Hurts 2022 leap because even in his limited time he didn't seem like much at all

Is it going well for the Phillies?

Not great. That pick doesn’t have much value to other teams. Might as well hold onto it to at least see if by some miracle the conditions hit.

Jets fans are rejoicing. This was a total fleece job no matter how you look at it.

I know.   My biggest fear is that the offense rebounds tremendously under Moore... Moore is hired away to be a HC elsewhere and we keep Sirianni and the offense goes toes up again in 2025 when its 'his' show again.

Mine too

Also, no edge has ever played 67 percent of the snaps under Saleh.

Maybe that will change for Reddick.  Saleh seems to really like him. Look what he said about him in October 2023:

"All kinds of juice and gas off the edge,” Saleh said.

If that's not high praise, I don't know what is.

Maybe the Eagles like Nolan Smith??

They don't have a choice really , they passed on better players for him. But it could've been a very big mistake

Yeah. It’s not like betting on an undersized speed rusher in his 30s at top value is a great bet. I never really considered keeping Reddick beyond 2024 as a reasonable option for Howie, although he bet on two 30+ corners. At least Howie had some foresight by drafting Smith (not that he’s proven anything).

It won’t. They’ll make sure of it.

Nolan Smith isn't really a Reddick clone though. It's pretty startling just how small Nolan Smith looks compared to Haason Reddick when we actually got to see them on the field. Nolan Smith is a Reddick clone the way Tyrion Lannister is a Jon Snow clone.

For those who don't know Game of Thrones, Jon Snow is meme'd for being small for being like 5'8, but Peter Dinklage is a dward at 4'5. Nolan Smith legitimately looked like a kid playing with men out there in 2023. He's so small.

Didn't the Jets recently limit a players snaps so they didn't meet a trade condition or was that another team? Maybe it was the Colts

The big problem with the trade IMHO is that we got very little value vs. the possibility to have Reddick during another year with the window totally wide open.  Who knows where we will be a year or two from now.

Around here, plenty of people call every statistical decline a regression and trends apparently cannot be reversed. It's just a pessimistic nature that shows through. I'm not immuned either. As I've stated numerous times, I get pretty pessimistic during games when things aren't going smooth. I rarely post in GDTs because of that.

But when comparing edge rushers around the NFL, I believe they are more interchangeable than some here want to believe. A guy like Parsons sets the bar because they can really move him around and do just about anything they want with him. But the guys that just come in on passing downs and try to beat the OT with a couple different pass rush techniques are fairly common. Even if Reddick is a better all around edge than Huff, the drop-off may not be very noticeable. The overall success of the defense will depend on all 11 guys, not just one.

I think the Eagles must have had good reason to believe that Reddick was going to be a distraction this summer amd season playing out the final year of his deal amd they want to erase the bad vibes from the end of the year and try to work with a positive energy locker room heading into the season.

The Eagles signed Reddicks replacement in Free Agency.

The Eagles never planned to pay to pay big money to Huff and Reddick.

This is a mysterious secret that only geniuses understand (apparently) and I'm sharing it with you and the rest of the board.
