Aside from speed does Nolan have any pass rush moves? I can’t remember him making a play where he didn’t just run around a lineman.

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

The big problem with the trade IMHO is that we got very little value vs. the possibility to have Reddick during another year with the window totally wide open.  Who knows where we will be a year or two from now.

I'm imagining that it was extension or bust. I don't think he was going to play on his current contract.

I’d really love a Random Reglar vs RTK debate btw

I know.   My biggest fear is that the offense rebounds tremendously under Moore... Moore is hired away to be a HC elsewhere and we keep Sirianni and the offense goes toes up again in 2025 when its 'his' show again.

And the latest "facts" would then say that Reddick regressed badly. Not that I believe that, I just don't let pessimism effect my expectations one way or the other.

Reddick regressed to his previous mean, while the defense around him disappeared.  Therefore, he's being graded on a curve.

LMAO, Reddick didn't have a down year. He's been a 10-12 sack guy since his breakout in 2020 minus one outlier season that people have skewed into being the norm.

If you are looking at sacks alone, sure.  12.5, 11, 16 and 11 sacks.  Forced fumbles: 6, 2, 5, ZERO.

How many players have 10 or more sacks over the last 4 years?
Reddick and Myles Garrett.  That's it.   (I was surprised to see TJ Watt not on the list, he's lead the league in sacks 3 out of the last 4 years... but only had 5.5 in 2022.)

Parsons is on pace for it, but only 3 years in the league.

You'll have to forgive me for not seeing Huff as being at the same level as a player.

He wouldn't have sat out and he would have been playing for his next contract.

I think the Phillies downfall is going to be their hubris to think that just bringing the same roster back and doing minimal upgrades was enough. Really the only addition they made was merrifield. You weren’t good enough last year to beat inferior diamondbacks team. ( the Diamondbacks rotation is absolutely ridiculous when you go look at it. They added Eduardo Rodriguez and Montgomery. They have the best rotation in baseball).  The bullpen is basically the same add Orion for the entire year. Who knows what exactly he is. He had a rough playoffs. Dominguez and Soto need to be more consistent this year. Your rotation is already down Walker who wasn’t all that great last year. Add on who knows what Christopher Sanchez is. He pitched the most innings of his career last year. There’s a chance where he sees a decline. And ranger suarez has yet to stay healthy for an entire year.

I kind of think the Phillies are gonna get eliminated in the NLDS or Wild Card. Their wildcard matchup might be the diamondbacks or the Dodgers depending on who wins the NL West. And that is going to be a tough matchup.

frankly, I thought they should’ve tried to move on from Castellanos and keep Hoskins. Hoskins it’s a type of hitter they need who grinds at bats. He might be in a cold slump, but he’s always going to see pitches and he’s always going to make the pitch work. Casty is the exact opposite of that. And frankly the one year of Harper in the outfield isn’t going to massively deteriorate him. As you move on from Rhys after 2024 and have Soto in the of in 2025 with Harper at first

I thought their offseason was awful. I think they had back to back bad offseasons, but we won't relitigate 2023. I don't talk baseball with a lot of people, most friends and people I know aren't super into baseball, mainly football and basketball, but all the baseball people I do know all said they had a great offseason and I just don't get where they were coming from. People are acting like Merrifield is Chase Utley. The guy's a 35 year old utility player and this team needed a big bat added to the lineup. I've said for years this lineup is overrated. And the bullpen doesn't have a ton of depth. If just one reliever doesn't have a big year that they expect to, their bullpen becomes pretty flawed very quickly. And relievers are known to have high variance.

Tbh the only thing that has me "optimistic" about the Phillies doesn't even have anything to do with the team. It's I consider the NL pretty weak and don't see many teams better than them. And that includes the Dodgers btw. My big agenda this season is betting against the Dodgers all year. Already have several bets with multiple people on Dodgers related things that I'm very much going to enjoy cashing in on.

Yeah,  must've been that.

Only 130+ IQ genius types could tell the Eagles had 2 expensive starting olb/edge players and they could only keep one.

I guess some people are disappointed that the Eagles didn't sign Huff and then immediately trade him.

What? I will fight you

He's too busy getting completely engulfed the second he locks arms with an OL, so we didn't get a chance to see. Any pass rush situation where he didn't have a beat on his defender he just got completely driven out of the play immediately. He's fast, but looks like he has about no power right now.

Nolan Smith isn't really a Reddick clone though. It's pretty startling just how small Nolan Smith looks compared to Haason Reddick when we actually got to see them on the field. Nolan Smith is a Reddick clone the way Tyrion Lannister is a Jon Snow clone.

For those who don't know Game of Thrones, Jon Snow is meme'd for being small for being like 5'8, but Peter Dinklage is a dward at 4'5. Nolan Smith legitimately looked like a kid playing with men out there in 2023. He's so small.

Biggest concern for the team moving forward...

I agree with him some of the time,  often when he's arguing against everyone else.

I’m curious what Howie’s second best offer was because if Clowney chose the Jets, we were going to have to settle for something even worse.

Reddick for Huff and a pick.

He just didn't get much of an opportunity to play as a rookie.  Coming off of an injury in preseason sure doesn't help things.

But he did flash enough to be hopeful about him going forward.  His sack against the Bucs in the playoffs was one where he locked arms with the RT and got off to get around him and get the sack.

I think it might keep Sirianni up at night the way he looks at some of these pressers

"Losing sleep" is also an expression, but I'm sure the acute people in the world recognize this.

This is fair

That’s not how it works. Just stop.

I dont mind Huff replacing Reddick.

I just dont understand, if that was the best compensation we could get, why it had to happen?

They just upgraded, on the field.
