none of the phillies talk matters till around September.

Looks like theyll have the same start as last year. Not worth getting upset about. Will they have the same performance come fall though?

Did ya watch their defense? They beat us no less last year.

I hope you are being sarcastic but just in case:

Since 2010 they have had two winning seasons.

88-129 in that span.

Their last winning season was 2015.  Since 2015 they are 51-86 with 7 double digit loss seasons, with all 7 coming in the last 8 seasons.

Don't think this is their year. And Nola is not worth $172 million.  They will regret that contract this season and years to come.

Its certainly not. That lineup was complete trash last post-season. And looked the same way it did in the world series the year before. And theyve basically done nothing. After 2 epic collapses in a row. So no. Its no their year. Its a waste season to begin with. But will they at least put together another nice, fun run? Probably. Despite sucking for the first 5 months of the season. So who cares what happens right now? I think theres almost no reason to watch. Of course, fans still will. But...

Eagles may be the only hope for the city in the next year or two but even they have glaring issues. We’re in sports purgatory - no one is bad enough to get top prospects or good enough to win it all

Well the 6ers have a ton of cap space. Morey is probably scouting these guys to see who he can give a max contact to

Again, if Reddick wanted to be an Eagle bad enough he could be like Brandon Graham and been here to the end and been a very memorable Eagle. But he really has no interest in being that guy. And we can tell by his actions. Says all the right things, but I dont buy it. He put a gun to their head (after 1 year. Lol) and had no leverage. Eagles aren't playing that game. Nice try! Had he been flexible in restructuring and being a good soldier he'd be getting paid pretty handsomely as his role changed. Just like they did with Graham. HE WANTS THE BAG!! Plain and simple. Doesn't really matter who gives it to him. He will bounce around from year to year like Clowney as a hired gun after this year. He's a long term contact risk right now. Probably be a pure rotational guy in next year or two. And be perceived in the league as such. He played his cards wrong here. He will soon find this out. Not every team will know how to use this guy either. Kind of like fitting a square peg in a round hole. So when he finds that great situation like the Eagles he should have just been thrilled with finding that comfortable home and role.

They don’t have to regret it for the years to come, they should regret it now. There is no way anybody on the market was giving nola that type of contract. The Phillies can say whatever they want that the Braves were in it but I called BS. The Braves don’t function that way. And if the Braves really coveted nola that much they’d have been all in for Montgomery or snell on the type of deals they’d got. That was a ruse by the Phillies to help save face with the public for giving him an absurd 7 years. Blake Snell has won two CY Young’s and only get a one year contract with an option for 2. Jordan Montgomery, who’s been very good the last three years could only get one year contract. And he was good in that postseason for the Rangers. The Phillies screwed up reading what the market was going to be.

If Aaron Nola sat there on the market like the others he was not getting 7 years. The Phillies giving him seven years was completely absurd because they wanted to get it done so they didn’t have to worry about their number 2 starter. Now you gotta worry about if he’s actually gonna be good enough for most of that contract over seven years. And if he’s not, it’s gonna be a hindrance to you. Because you are fighting right now to not go into the third level luxury tax. That was our whole reasoning about why they didn’t want to give Jordan Montgomery a one year contract. So having him on there for 7 years if he’s not very good is a chunk of money that you don’t have to spend and hurts you in terms of luxury tax.

I don't think the Phillies roster is that great, but they're kinda built for the postseason with 2 elite pitchers in the rotation and one really good one and a lineup that is flawed and inconsistent but capable of going on really hot streaks, so if they go on one at the right time they can be hard to beat. Plus the best home field advantage in the sport. Good news fot them is the NL kinda sucks and the only team with an objectively better roster is maybe the Braves, but the Braves are choking losers and the Phillies absolutely own them so they'd beat them in the playoffs again. Just have to hope in the playoffs their lineup has a power surge. If it does they can beat anybody, if it dries up they can lose to anybody.

Nola is elite? He is essentially the James Bradberry of the Philadelphia Phillies. Go look at the last five seasons where the Phillies played 162 games. and tell me he doesn’t have a James Bradberry feel to him. 2018 he was incredible. 2019 he was ok (2020 was covid and they played 2 months of baseball not the normal 6 months that you’d normally get and his worse months in his career are june and September so definitely a chance his numbers look vastly different over 162). 2021 he was bad. 2022 he was good. 2023 he was not good. Since 2019 every other year he’s good.

He will never hop off the Nola being elite train you almost have to respect his loyalty to his opinion at this point. He will take it to the grave.

I’m just surprised they didn’t leave a stranded bases loaded (even though it should have been with that Casty no call) in the 1st.

Baby steps.

Cy Nola has been the best pitcher in baseball since he first stepped foot on a diamond. He's the ace of major league baseball.

I'm not talking about the jets history here, I'm talking about their rebuilt defense specifically last year, which is one of the best in the league right now.  I hope you're not going to say their defense wasn't good last year...

The drugs probably don’t help. Wheeler is the only elite pitcher they have. You want to know what elite is go watch wheeler. Nola is up and down depending on the year. He’s an overpaid no. 2 starter.

That was criminal by the home plate ump.  And... for a free swinger, Casty watched a fastball go right down the middle and didn't even flinch at it... with TWO strikes.

Another thing about Nola: every negative stat you'll read about him is made up. Here's a little inside info. Ever since Nola came out and said he didn't get vaccinated, stat agencies have had it out for him and wanted to make him look bad. I have a friend who works for ESPN stats and info and they were mandated by their bosses to doctor Nola's stats on multiple occasions. And alter them positively for NY, LA, and Boston players, but that's a whole other story.

Phillies do have an elite post-season pitcher, but it ain't Nola, it's Ranger.

All this Phillies talk will keep RTK at bay. Fn fair weather fans the lot of you.

wheeler is pretty elite. He had a 1.95 era last postseason. And he has some Phillies postseason records as a SP

Nola is the Kirk Cousins of pitchers

I’ll never criticize a guy for trying to get paid. Reddick has shown that he can be a top tier pass rusher. And with all due respect to Graham and as much as I appreciate him, he was never that guy. Graham was a steady player who never commanded top dollar because he didn’t have the sack numbers to justify it. He was in a good position to stay loyal to the team because he liked his role here, the team, he made good money but also he could never demand top tier position money based on his numbers.

Reddick isn’t elite but he has more bargaining power than Graham had when he was 29/30.

I didn't,  I said they don't make good decisions and they don't.  Their horrible record for the past 15 years is speaks for itself.  A good defense for one season means nothing.

Anyone see the kicker for Michigan win the game on not one but two 64 yard field goals with the first one being called off due to timeout? Guy hasn't kicked a field goal since high school and hits a 64 yarder (that cleared by 10 yards) to win the game. Incredible.
