I didn't,  I said they don't make good decisions and they don't.  Their horrible record for the past 15 years is speaks for itself.  A good defense for one season means nothing.

Joe Douglas hasn't been there for 15 years. He's been rebuilding that defense and it's now one of the best in the league. And they just added our best defense player no less. It will be one of the best in the league again this year. I think most would love to have that defense rather than whatever we have going on here right now.

If they don't make the playoffs will it matter?

His record as GM of the Jets is 20-46.  But you go ahead and love you some Joe Douglas Jets because they have a good defense.

I'm not talking about the jets history here, I'm talking about their rebuilt defense specifically last year, which is one of the best in the league right now.  I hope you're not going to say their defense wasn't good last year...

They were good but inconsistent at times.   Had 5 games were they gave up 30+.  Also played the NYG, Raiders, Atlanta and NE twice who all have terrible offenses.

Having Rodgers back should help their defense be better.  They won't have to be on the field as much with AR back as QB.

Great, defense don't matter then. That's your opinion not mine.

These draft "simulators” are a bit unreal.  Harnessing my inner Howie.  Tried to fix the defense in one draft.  If that doesn’t work, I added a second draft for 2025. Decided to pass on Koolaid or Guyton and grab a couple more 2025 1sts.  Davis now has a real back up at NT.  Crum is an athlete.  Would like a bit longer arms but a diamond in the rough for Stout.  Might be the perfect player for a year or two tutelage under Lane.   Grabbed my favorite corner and the best ILB in the draft  plus a freak to back him up or step in for Dean.  Rotational edges.  Fixed S.  CJGJ and Hicks plus Blankenship and Brown at S.  Melton makes nickel instantly better and Jones has the making of a reserve/CB2. How in the Hell could Carson Steele be there in the sixth?  Afraid of his mileage?  No problem, we won’t use him until the fourth quarter.

They were top 5 in the league. Very physical, fast, decisive. I'm just saying they are a very good defense right now and I don't see them getting any worse.

A SAM that can’t drop into coverage and the Eagles screwed him?  Or Reddick screwed the Eagles by not being able to do his coverage assignment.   Including Sweat and Graham, all the Eagles current edges except Lewis have dropped successfully in coverage, some not great at it but sufficient.  The OLBs need to be able to cover some to effectively fulfill their 1 1/2 gap responsibilities and to allow the defense to better disguise.  Nick is a fan of tailoring to the player’s strengths but too much of it makes the play predictable.  The Eagles were predictable on both offense and defense last year.

Needed his sack numbers for a big pay day. He was misused and had trash DCs.

Trading Reddick feels like either 1st shoe to drop or very uncharacteristic for Howie. If no other shoe drops I’ll be scratching my head until I’m bald.

For a second I forgot he was the one with that schtick and was ready to type a thesis

I never said I love the jets, you're just hating now. I said the Jets have a very good defense right now and Joe built it. Yeah I am a bit envious, what Eagles fan wouldn't be? I grew up loving this team watching Reggie, Clyde, Brown, Waters, Allen, Evans etc etc etc. Howie has me very worried with his rebuilding this defense.

When I’m bored & don’t feel like doing "realistic mocks” for the Eagles, I have a ton of fun going crazy on trades. Did one once where I ended up with like 4 1sts, 3 2nds, and a bunch of 3rds in the next draft lol

I'm hoping the freed up money brings in a trade for a top CB or other defensive player. Surtain is the dream but I can't give up that 22. Could he be gotten for 50 and maybe another pick or so between this year and next? That's the level of move this defense needs.

shoe 1 - Bryce Huff In
shoe 2 - Reddick Out

Howie worries me every year, but compared to Joe Douglas, he's a genius.

Not quite but along those lines...FB_IMG_1711850217960.jpg

Shoe 1 draft Nolan Smith

The Eagles had the worst defense in the nfl last year.  They had a bad pass rush.  It will not, can not be worse next year.

No player over 30 who was a part of that 2023 defense needs a 2024 pay raise.  /story

Saquon and Lamar came out in the same year. Lamar has missed significant time with injuries throughout his career. Lamar is also a quarterback.

Lamar has more career rushing yards than Saquon Barkley

Again, I'm talking strictly defense. Howie is not a defensive genius. I wish he was

That’s pretty good.  Am a Sixers fan and would love to have that one back.

That’s just weird

As bad as the end to the Eagles season was, I actually think things have swung too far that direction now. It was annoying, disgraceful, embarrassing, all those things. But it was still just 6 games. Can't let emotion cloud your judgement. This team has good players. And got rid of a really good one. I sincerely hope the Eagles aren't making emotional decisions based on the last 6 games. As much as I wanted Sirianni gone because I think he sucks, I actually commend Lurie for not firing him based on that collapse alone. I would have been on board with him being fired but only if Lurie was not satisfied with the season on the whole and only because Lurie didn't think he was the right guy moving forward. Not for a small 6 game sample.

The Eagles were not bad in any aspect before those final 6 games. Their defense wasn't good. But it certainly wasn't the abomination it was when Patricia took over.

I get it's recency bias and that taste is going to take a long time to wash out, but can't allow that collapse to overshadow everything and skew your evaluations of the team and specific players.
