I assume you're talking about the defense. Better or worse, that's arguable, particularly before the draft. After that the better or worse argument will become clearer.

What is clear already, is that the team will be younger and faster. Last year's defense was painfully slow.

Starting with speed: The middle was open all year. We had no one who could match up in there, especially after Dean went down. We've added a faster LB and a faster safety. If if if Dean can stay healthy that's a big upgrade...in speed. We brought back CJGJ, who's faster than Blankenship. Brown may not be ready. I'm with @HazletonEagle, let's sign Simmons and be happy about our safety situation. At corner, I'm assuming Bradberry will be gone, or at least irrelevant. I'm looking at Rodgers at slot corner and I'm assuming we draft a couple of DBs Certainly they'll be faster than Bradberry. Huff and Smith are certainly faster than Reddick. Whether they'll be as or more or less effective remains to be seen, but they'll be faster. And Rodgers will be useful with the new kickoff rules.

Then there's youth. Our DTs are all young. AT LB, White is 26, Dean is 23. I expect we'll draft an LB high, so, another young guy. CJGJ is 26. Simmons is 30, assuming we get him. The old man. Brown is 24 as of yesterday. Blankenship is 25. CB is more problematic. Slay is 33; Bradberry's 30. I think Ringo has a nice future in Fangio's system and he's only 21. Rodgers is 26. They'll draft another DB high and probably a project later.

A lot of question marks, clearly, but absolutely younger and faster. I think we can build from that.

Just to clarify, I was comparing a defensive roster with Reddick in 2024 vs. one without him in 2024.  I am not saying that the 2023 defensive front was probably better than the 2024 one because we had Reddick.

Bring in Simmons, trade a 2027 pick for a corner, and then head into the draft with BPA on the mind.

That would make up for the Reddick loss.

Barring something unforeseen though I think this offseason has been hugely disappointing. Really expected/hoped they'd upgrade the back 7 more than they did by this point.

Huff made up for the Reddick loss.

Who made up for the Cox loss?

It was against the Rams.

Any word on Reddick's contract extension?

To replace Reddick - the Eagles brought in Bryce Huff and Zack Baun

To replace Cox - the Eagles brought in ???

I know that part I'm just wondering if  you've seen anything on Reddick's  contract extension, I still haven't seen a number he was asking for from the Eagles, just lots of speculation.

Probably won't hear from Howie again until draft night, if the Eagles end up keeping and using their 1st round pick.  If Reddick doesn't have a new deal by then it'll be interesting what Howie has to say about why they did the trade.

Patriots one should’ve been ‘Benching Butler’

I never said Nolan Smith can't run.   I said Sweat can't run.    Sweat's knees are also absolute trash, so what he does versus what Huff does is very different.

Sweat at the Combine.  4.53 forty with a 1.55 split is pretty decent running.  He was the fastest DE in his draft.  Sweat had a serious knee injury in HS and not much since

Clear upgrade

Just heard that Vontae Davis was found dead at his home. No details provided except that no foul play suspected. Only 35 years old. So sad.

Sweat's pass rush get off is top 3 still. Not far off from Huff. He needs less snaps, as they wore him out last year. Went from 597 snaps in 2022 to 828 snaps last year. Smith has to be that 1st guy off the bench, kind of like the role Huff had with Jets. Can keep everyone fresh.

They couldn’t do a true rotation last year and it showed.

It was puzzling though, as they hardly played Brandon Graham the 1st half of the season. And refused to play Smith til late. And Barnett was benched and waived. I think they bungled that whole thing up and eventually were exhausted and collapsed.

This Reese v Clark rematch has to be the most hyped women's basketball game in history.  It's got me seeking out and watching a woman's basketball game for the first time ever.  Pretty good game so far too.  Clark actually much more impressive than I was expecting and I wasn't really expecting a whole lot.

Comes down to risk

There is more risk in the unknown and projection. And fundamentally loss aversion is a huge thought process in humans

reddick was a known, productive player. Much easier to envision him playing well again than hoping Huff can do it

Every single thing comes down to risk.

In the '80s we had one of the worst offensive lines ever when Buddy Ryan took over. There were no free agency quick fixes at that time as the only true free agents were players that were released. After a couple seasons of slight improvement, the Eagles finally went for the sure thing and traded a 1st and a 4th for the Colts' former 1st round pick, 2nd team all-pro and (at that time) current holdout OG Ron Solt. After the trade, it was discovered he was juicing, he was suspended immediately and never played to that level again without the steroids.

Last season, the Jets acquired Rodgers after their latest former 1st round QB flop failed to impress. He barely played a few snaps before being lost for the year.

A couple years ago, the Broncos believed they were a QB away from being a SB contender. They mortgaged their future to acquire a 9-time Pro Bowl QB that was a known, productive player. We all know what happened.

You can't get away from risk. In Huff and Reddick, you have two players that had similar production last season. The risk is about the same for both players.

Don't think you are replacing Cox with one guy. More snaps for the gang of of Davis, Carter, Williams, Tuipulotu & Ojomo. Can maybe grab a vet on minimum to help out these young guys. Need to go back to constant rotation to keep peeps fresh. Got away from it last year.

Josh Sweat's knee is like this mythical thing used to explain every time he doesn't play well. He's never had a knee injury as a pro, and his get-off is still among the league's fastest. No, sometimes he's just bad. Last year, that was a lot of times.

Eagles would have scored 50 if Butler had played

Fedotov needs to get himself a good artist to fix that cage up. Nice stonewall save on a breakaway.

I've watched him run in games.  He's not fast.
