After 2017 they got gradually worse every year until they cratered in 2020. Howie's bad offseasons hurt their ability to sustain success. Credit to him for digging himself out of it though.

That and Wentz had a meteoric drop off...

Yes, but he doesn't want to be a backup. He's at least in a place where there's no chance he'll ever play unless injury happens.

Nobody "wants" to be a backup; it's a question of accepting that's what the market is.  I'm pretty sure by the time Wentz got to the Rams last season he understood what his market is.

Sure.  But Wentz' demise could have been precipitated by the garbage talent around him at WR.   No sane person could assume that any QB could function with the top receivers being Greg Ward and Travis Fulgham.   When those are the weapons given to you and you are expected to go out and play at an elite level, of course you are going to play some hero ball.  It's the only real option.  And that destroyed his ability to play within the structure of the offense, because the talent level around him was eroded to the point of ridiculous... not to mention the OL issues where they had Jamon Brown in games adjusting his gloves mid-play while his man came in for a hit on the QB.

Wentz is certainly not blameless in the events that transpired post-2018, but honestly, the organization did very little to help him.

Also Jalen Carter

Wait?  What's wrong with Fulgham?  Most teams would KILL for this kind of production:

Everyone here loves Chiefs signing Wentz as a backup now but when I was saying last year and this offseason they should sign Wentz as backup it was nothing but hate.

People love a Wentz signing here? That sounds a bit exaggerated. I would think no one could give two Fs about Wentz right now.

Jordan Davis and Carter were drafted to replace Cox and Hargrave

Milton Williams

Jalen Carter. What's so hard to figure out?

I'm pretty sure that both Jalen Carter and Cox were on the roster last year.   They both had snaps in the same game,  probably playing at the same time.

I'm not talking about roster building, and the right amount of money to spend at a position.

I'm saying that a roster spot is now open, Cox had about 60% of the snaps,  who is taking the spot and getting the snaps?

Fiske

The Eagles have drafted Carter, Davis, Nolan Smith, and Williams over the past 3 drafts, and there's still people asking who's replacing DL players?  Holy hell ....

What mid round DT would you guys target?

I've been looking at the overall top ras players.  just the list of all of the positions jumbled together sorted by top ras.   And I've been looking at the first round players.   Fiske has a nice high ras and he's considered a possible first rounder.   mock draft database has him at 45.

Other 1-2 round players with high ras.

Adonai Mitchell WR 9.99 MDD 29

Joe Alt OT 9.93 MDD 9

Ruke Orhorhoro DT 9.93 MDD 58

Rome Odunze WR 9.92 MDD 6

Braden Fiske DT 9.90   MDD 45

Ricky Pearsall WR 9.90  MDD 52

Payton Wilson LB 9.89  MDD 47

Xavier Legette WR 9.89 MDD 49

He's just gonna play his final season out on that contract, isn't he? And it's going to make this trade infinitely worse. If he signs a big extension the trade makes so much more sense. If not, it just adds to the baffling nature of it.

No,  those players were there last year.  Cox left,  he had 60% of the snaps.

The DTs last year were Cox and the players you mentioned.  One is gone,  needs to be replaced.  Unless your plan is 1 fewer DT than last year.

Anybody who is capable of typing should be able to type something out that fits "who is the new guy who is getting snaps?"   That name could come from a number of sources.   There is at least one name on the current Eagles roster at DT that we don't talk about much.   Someone could go look at that roster and say "that guy should make the team and get more snaps".

What if he does that and re-signs with the Eagles for 2025?

It seems baffling because we only see the result of conversations, which is the trade.  Hassan asked for a restructuring after 2022.  It's been a long conversation between his reps and the Eagles.

Without knowing squat, I make the presumption offers and counter offers were made.

Then cool, but if that happens, that probably means one of Nolan Smith or Bryce Huff was awful in 2024.

Reddick being willing to play out his contract with NYJ doesn’t mean he would have here.

It doesn't, but we have no evidence to suggest he wouldn't have done the same. Considering he loved being here and never wanted to leave(per his own words).

He'll probably get more sacks with the jets with that crazy defense and secondary if he stays healthy. Right financial move for him. If he stayed here he'd have to watch his secondary likely get torched again.

The reverse is also true.   It doesn't mean he wouldn't have.

Reddick never made the comments he's making today :"all options are open right now...I'm going to be happy and give my all" Which means he didn't want to be an Eagle. As much as he says he loved being here. He wanted to explore the market right now. And the market spoke, saying we are not giving you the hefty long term contract you want. And now he saves face and just has to bet on himself for his last year on contract. Which he probably could have done in the 1st place here. He misplayed this. Not Howie. He wasn't gonna wait around for him regarding 2024, after talking for months. Howie got Huff and Baun. And absolutely played his cards correctly in this situation.
