Interesting. Stefon Diggs will be a FA after the season.

That trade just makes no sense for Houston. A second round pick for a guy you essentially are placating with more money on a one-year deal so he isn’t a complete turd for you? Or he plays well and you keep him entering age 31 on a huge contract with a bunch of guaranteed money.

Okay with Maddox as depth, but absolutely should not get handed the starting job.

Mailata extended is awesome.

Smith next, please.

That changes a lot. Bills got decent value for an older rental.

Best to just accept it

This move makes zero sense. They had him at reasonable numbers with almost no guaranteed money if he sucked. Why would they rip that up without getting something in return? They had him at less than $20mm each of the next 3 years with only $3.5mm guaranteed.

Terrible actor, too.  People conveniently forget Diggs malcontented his way out of Minnesota even before he got to Buffalo.

Besides Smith, it seems like Williams is the only other obvious extension guy, but I think he ends up walking next offseason. I'm not sure Eagles will give him a good enough deal with Carter and Davis ahead of him to not test FA to see if he can get starting money somewhere else.

They have been trying to sell NFL Media, which owns NFL Network, but there is a tepid market. So instead they are drastically cutting costs as it has been a money loser.

That's mad.  The NFL Network is a shop front to their product; one of the reasons the game has grown exponentially over here is access to the Network and programs like GMFB, Total Access. They earn enough through everything else, that the Network should be an acceptable loss leader to promote the product rather than seen as a cost.

Perhaps if they didn't broadcast from the LA and NYC, then costs would be easier to control.

I assume Smith is the next contract that gets done. Curious what he gets considering there's a ton of potential but he's the #2 behind Brown

Smith had 112 targets last year. That ranks  #28 in the NFL overall. So, he’s getting #1 level targets.

I think the Eagles will pay him as such. Basically he gets a good but not over the top type of long term deal.

Incredible value, really.

Gotta do the Blankenship/Edwards deal for Covey first. That’s the priority.

Diggs’ contract being shortened also makes him ineligible for a comp pick, not that Houston with all its cap space was gonna go that route anyway.

They are going for it this year is what it tells me. They think with a stud WR their young QB can go to the next level and possibly get them to a SB. If that doesn't work they get a 3rd back down the line when he signs with another team. Would I have done it? No, but their GM has made some good moves. We'll see what happens.

Well forget that aspect then

Sounds like SB Nation axed all their podcasts so BGN is basically no more for podcasts

Only thing I can think of is it forces him to be motivated and perform for his next contract. Maybe this is what Diggs wanted and Houston obliged to make him happy.

Beats me.

That sucks. I really liked their podcasts. Hopefully him and Kempski figure something out.

Zero interest from me.   It's a shame.   I think Kelce (Jason, not Travis) would be a really great option to have on any football analysis show and I would tune in.   If he's just going to do some bizarro reality show... nah, I've got better options.

That sucks, BGN was the most objective place to go for takes. I really don't listen to many sports podcasts. Wonder of Gowton and Kempski will do something independent. I don't see why not, they wouldn't get any less of an audience. Most of their listeners don't really care about SB Nation in general.

If the Eagles go off script and take a LB in Rd 2, who is the best prospect? The mock draft simulators mostly have Cooper from A & M as the highest rated LB in Rd 2 but researching him brings up red flags for his coverage experience and tape. Anyone out there who is a LB specialist, which LB is the right pick at 50 or 53 to have an immediate impact with the highest upside?

Btw, it's going to be another bloodbath when PHLY starts laying off people. There's no way it can last with the amount of money they are paying everyone. They keep hiring people and they generate no views or listens to their stuff. And they recently hired Les Bowen as well in addition to all the other people they're paying 6 figures.

Reed Blankenship is one of those guys where he's good enough to start for you and not cost you games, but he's not going to really impact games or win you games either. He's the type of player that's going to annoy the hell out of me within 2 years. Since the Eagles don't value safety as much as other positions, they'll be passive about upgrading him, because they'll have a starting caliber(ish) player under contract for cheap and he's not a bad player, but also you'll be watching games every Sunday wishing you had someone more impactful playing the position. And also the Eagles love showing off being right about things, so them being able to puff their chests out that an UDFA became a starter will definitely stroke their egos.

No, I won't. The Sheldon Browns and Rodney McLeods are underrated in their consistency. Plus, you actually need someone who's steady and actually good at tackling as a counterpart to CJGJ who tackles like a corner.

I miss the days where people actually valued safety skills in a safety. Jeez.
