Imagine thinking Brock Bowers is going to last until 20

Dude housed 2 reverses for tds as a true freshman for over 40, burnt toast.

He won’t make it past 15 Colts

I hope he gets selected ahead of us. First round TEs rarely live up to their billing.

Oh he is for sure

David Chao has concerns about Latu's longevity given his neck. I wonder if he'll fall because of it. Teams usually err on the side of caution with health stuff.

I hope so

I saw a mock that Mina Kimes did with Chris Simms (I know) where Bowers went #24.  The mock I did strictly to kill some time had Bowers drafted #27.  Bowers definitely isn't a generational talent at TE; I could see him lasting until late Round 1.

Eagles doing a lot of homework on athletic linemen. Seems to be their focus in terms of what they're looking for.

I would like someone with more time than me to do the following:

How many active players in the NFL had a 1st 4-5 years in the NFL that are consistent with what you'd hope for from a first round pick.  (Regardless of where that player was actually drafted).  Eliminate anyone that is still on their rookie year, as they are subject to the misinformation of premature judgement.

Be stingy.  What you'd hope for.  Just because someone starts at a middling level for a few years and that meets the "average production" of a first round pick...that doesn't count.

Of those players, what positions do they play?  I bet it's very heavy on WRs, edge rushers, and OL.  QB is sort of it's own animal that exists outside of this conversion.  S, LB, RB, TE and...our favorite position to draft...DT are probably lower on the list.

I dislike overinvesting in TE's.  You can win championships with a Gronk or a Kelce, but statistically you are far better off (despite our drafting history) going after great WRs.

That said, with our needs on the horizon, if Bowers is somehow available at our pick, he better be the pick.

Curious if we will make a trade up or down before the draft even starts.  Also what percent chance do you think we make an offer for Surtain II ?

Howie said something to this effect an offseason or two ago.

Basically they scout for OL with the mindset and physical gifts to excel and then leave the rest to Stoutland, because they are confident a coachable player with athleticism will fulfill their potential under Stoutland.

What you're describing are usually top 10 picks. It's not a positional issue, but a draft slot issue.

My favorite draft people on youtube teamed up for a mock draft. A couple trades were discussed here that almost seems like they have inside info on discussions actually taking place. Whether they happen or not, who knows. But good discussion.

Eagles get Terrion Arnold. DeJean went to the steelers. Wiggins was on the board. So were Latu and Verse. Board falls nicely for the eagles.

I think Bowers is very likely to disappoint.

He’s small, a poor blocker and not a transcendent athlete. Good hands and route running, for sure, but you can get that in the 4th round.

Then to justify Bowers in the first you have to give him 100 targets, but that means fewer targets going to Brown and Smith.

It just doesn’t make sense for us. If we want to throw a new guy the ball 100 times, draft the WR from LSU Brian Thomas.

I could see the Eagles making an offer but I can't imagine the Broncos are silly enough to trade him.

Seems right.  Board falls nicely, and Eagles make a bad pick.  Love Wiggins, but Jared Verse would be the right pick there every day.  Arnold is very grabby, and Simms figures he's a nickel CB.

Funny, I met EJ in a Buffalo Wild Wings here and chatted with him about Hurts and such.

Surprised no one's asked Cox if he would go into coaching yet

Won't lie. I had no idea that Ferris State was a school and thought he made a typo.

Wife went there. More of a hockey than a football school.

I think we  have a tendency to think that smaller OL, especially centers, can succeed in the league. We have been deluded by the brilliance of Jason Kelce. We think/hope that Jurgens can follow in his footsteps. Perhaps he can but he is an extraordinary athlete and even then I have my doubts. I have no doubts whatsoever that lesser athletes cannot succeed. The competition is just too great. Sundell looks to me to be, well, just not good enough. Kelce was really quick, really fast, and totally committed. He also had probably the two best coaches the league had to offer and even then there was a time not so long ago when it looked like big NTs were dominating him. Kelce was 10 out of 10 in speed and quickness. Guys without those measurables, like Sundell, are just too small.

JMHO.

Jurgens isn't nearly as small as Kelce, who was a 280 lb college player who pumped up to 295 to play pro ball. Jurgens is a legitimate 300 lbs and very athletic for that size.

But athleticism and scheme fit are a must, Mathis struggled until he ended up playing LG with Mudd, 300 lb very athletic guard.

I think current Eagles scheme is not suited to undersized OGs, but works for "undersized" centers who can get help in pass protection.

Which is why I expect Jurgens to look much better at center than he did at RG. It'll highlight his ability to get to the second level and make blocks, which is what made Kelce a HOF center.

Tough to see Cox retire. I’m curious how fondly people will remember him. He was easily our most dominant player for years & a massive part of the Super Bowl win but never reached that level of love that I feel Kelce gets or even Lane & BG. Either way, absolute legend that will be 100% be missed. Good to hear he’s still willing to help out the young guys on the DL

Man, Cox really did have a lot of girlfriends

Ross Tucker said he doesn't think the Eagles will take an OL in round 1 if they don't have guard versatility. I strongly disagree with that.

If the Eagles had to choose with an OT they evaluate as "We feel this guy is a stud and the next Lane Johnson" but can't play guard or a guy they evaluate as "We don't feel as strongly with him being a stud OT, but he can play guard" I think they would take the first guy 10 times out of 10.
