Generally the bigger bodied guys break down and it’s the lighter guys who have the longevity.

Julio’s last 1000 yard season was at age 30. Moss at 32, Megatron 30, Evans is playing great but still hasn’t gotten over 30 yet. TO was the mother of all exceptions, Deebo is already breaking down. Hopkins barely edged 1000 yards at 31 in a 17 game season, and the last time he did that was 28. He’s probably not going to do it again. Demaryius Thomas was 29, AJ Green was 29… Dez was out of the league by 29.

Conversely, 200lb Reggie Wayne had 1300 yards at 34. 195lb Steve Smith had 1000 yards at 35. 200lb Cris Carter had 1200 yards at 35. 195lb Julian Edelman had 1100 yards at 33. 190 lb Tyreek Hill just had his best season and one of the greatest seasons ever at 29. 188lb Isaac Bruce was still a 1000 yard receiver at 34.

At the draft, people were saying Devonta’s weight was a problem, but it’s gonna end up being the best thing for his longevity. I predict Devonta is playing his best football at the end of this contract and we extend him again, expecting big things at 31, 32, 33.

Megatron could have easily played more

Edit: never mind I was corrected

Didn’t he retire due to his body breaking down?

We drafted and developed an early round WR who performed well enough to deserve a long term extension. That's been an Eagle's fan white whale for what, almost 20 years now?

I remember reading where he said that he was in considerable pain his last season or two

I mean desean got one in 2012 then was ousted. Also maclin likely deserved one after his 2014 season and chip kelly was golfing

Yep. I made this argument a couple days ago. He has no guarantees left on his contract. So you better believe he and his agent are gonna come to the Eagles wanting an extension next off-season and more guaranteed money. I don’t see him being thrilled to play in 2025 with no guarantees left on his contract with 2 years left. Gonna have to make a decision at that point. In 2026 his cap number is $41 mil. They aren’t playing him at that number. He’s either gone, restructured or he got an extension. It’s why i said if the eagles take a 1st round wr i think it’s telling that he is likely not here long term (before smith extension so now it’s obvious if they move on from one it would be brown). You aren’t taking a WR at 22 and he’s just your 3rd wr for 4 years. They aren’t going to do that. Eventually that kid is going to be given a bigger role. If they do it it’s likely by 2026 Aj brown is gone. Probably trade him for draft capital and go with smith and the pick at 22. That said i dont think they take a WR at 22.

I wouldn't be shocked to see them extend him a couple years next offseason to try and keep him, Smith and Jalen together through 2028.

I’m pretty shocked that DeVonta was the first to sign with guys like Chase, Jefferson, St. Brown, Lamb, Higgins, Aiyuk, Waddle, etc all about to reset the market. It looks like they used the Pittman deal (3 years/$70 million) as the benchmark deal for DeVonta. Good for him if he just wanted to get it done and is happy here, but have to think he left some on the table by not waiting.

Pittman's guarantee was $46M.  Smith got $51M.  The FO confirmed to Smith that he was the better player.

Howie would have not let those guys leave the building.

I don’t think Smith can reasonably expect to use any Chase/Jefferson/Lamb/ARSB contracts to boost his contract. They all should command a significantly bigger deal than Smith, maybe even Aiyuk. Huggins probably isn’t getting a new deal soon, so that leaves Waddle.

What? Why? A little faster and a little stronger than Anquan Boldin. And even IF you're right which, obviously, I do not think is the case, he's only 26. That theoretical precipice is still years off.

Boldin was maybe the toughest SOB to play WR, was crafty as hell as a route runner and highly intelligent when it came to leverage and finding space in zone coverage. AJB physically overwhelms corners, but he’s not a great route runner. Bully ball works for him because he’s at his physical prime.

Lamb and Jefferson are both better than Smith, one year closer to UFA and younger. They're not signing for anything less than 30M.

Brown brought a fair amount of unneeded drama last season; he needs to clean that up.  If he's not going to give up social media, he needs to be much smarter about it.  My guess right now is that he's playing somewhere else in 2025.

If the Eagles take a WR at #53 or before, I think you can start the clock on Brown.

The problem with Brown is going to be his contract will need reworking after this year because his last 2 years as is are way too expensive, and if he has another 1400yard year, we'll have a more extreme version of the Reddick decision, in that Brown will definitely warrant an extension, but you may not have enough money to pay what he wants, which will likely be Tyreek level money.

Would be my guess is they want brown here til 2027/28 if the price was right on both sides. But if they take a WR at 22 (one falls and they love the kid) i don’t see them allowing their first round pick to just be a 3rd wr for his 4 year contract and also paying smith/brown.

Investment in the offense.

How many Howie's?

Tbh they likely dodged a bullet with maclin. He was good the following year in KC, but was never the same after that 2015 season. with desean it bs how he was let go and the reasoning behind it.

So that means that the offense will be at worst 5th in the League.... WOOOOOO. (Roob logic)

Aiyuk will likely break the bank, because I think he's a guy that will hit the open market, and that's where the big overpays happen.

I would love to see the defensive version

I'd give Brown another contract. I feel like he'll still be very productive at 31 given his skill set if he's relatively healthy.

If they do end up with a Reddick decision with AJ, at least they have a proven replacement in Smitty and they can find another WR2. With Reddick we have nothing proven, it's all hopes and dreams that Huff can replicate his success with a full workload and Nolan can play at all
