isnt there a way to convert a bunch of that salary in to bonuses? I thought thats how Howie always frees up cap space with re-structures.

He looks like a restructure candidate.

Probably is. Has 2 years left. His 2025 cap number is $26.5 mil. His 2026 cap number is $41 mil. However I’m guessing at 28 in June next year, i think the time for him to strike on a new deal is likely then. Also i wouldn’t be so sure he doesn’t believe he can get an extension somewhere else if he’s traded and force that if the eagles are noncommittal about an extension

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Agreed.

But if the Eagles determine that keeping him isn’t financially possible or pragmatic, then they need to move on ASAP while we can extract maximum value and replace him in an extremely deep WR class.

ASAP? Yeah... NO.

Outside of Harrison I don't think any of the WRs in this class can replace Brown.  Be a good #2 to Smith?  Sure, but Brown is a bona-fide, no doubt alpha-dog #1 WR.

Id see if they can give him a 2 year extension (with the 2nd year being one that is easy to move on from). That signs him for the next 4 years. Convert a bunch of his salary these next 2 years in to guarantees, in the form of bonuses now, plus add a good chunk of added money in year 3.

Thatll secure his services with good pay days through his year 30 season, and we can look to move on after these next 3 years. Trade or release before that 4th year kicks in.

I’m not advocating moving on from Brown now or in the near future, but I don’t think he’s going to be a No. 1 receiver as he closes in on 30.

This offense has no excuse to not be top of the league the next couple of seasons barring injury. It's the most loaded on paper we've seen in a very long time, if not ever. They're giving Hurts every opportunity to succeed, so hopefully he can put it together. I thought the new deal they gave him would hamper their ability to add or keep pieces, and thankfully it hasn't.

yeah we just arent getting high enough to get Harrison, Nabers, or Odunze.

Burton can be a 1 very much like a slightly thicker Smith, but no one seems to know just how bad his character concerns are.

Youd be rolling the dice with a Legette which really bit the Titans when they thought Burks was that guy.

I think you are correct. I want him as long as we can keep him without committing long term.

thank Howie. He is elite.

The excuse not to be good is Hurts. And apparently Nick is the scapegoat.

sounds rather unexciting this year.

It feels very good having 2 great WRs after such a long time of lame performance at the position. Let's enjoy it, we don't know how long it'll last.

Yeah, that’s what I would try to do. I just think this is coming to a head at the end of this season and next off-season. Eagles gonna have to make a decision to do an extension like you laid out or he could be traded. I prefer the extension

It seems that way for quite a few.

Nick was never hired to be an innovative architect in offensive play design; he was hired as a motivator, teacher, and to manage the locker room.  People seem to think the Reids, Shanahans and McVays grow on trees.

I think the offense will be good with Moore. Hopefully itll be noticeable enough where, if Hurts is evading ghost pressure, and not seeing the open WRs fans will notice the offense is schemed well.

Hoprfully Hurts just plays really well and we dont have to worry about it either way. But hard to be confident in him after last year.

2025 is our out. So we should draft a replacement this year and trade him next year.

No reason to go down the road of a holdout when our leverage is gone for 1 or 2 extra years.

It's also fair to point he did none of those things well last year.

The players seem to differ.

Not a single thing has come out from anyone on the team. Kelce or Cox who retired, or free agents who went elsewhere. Those are guys who would most likely open up honestly..

Anyone who has spoken on it says they really dont know what went wrong. Some have directly supported him.

I read this and got a stroke.

He did a great job with the locker room, with the possible exception of AJ Brown who should have been told to grow up a bit.

Can we get to the season before we talk about dumping one of the best WRs in the league? Can't have nice things in Philly lol.

What's exciting about DeVonta Smith is I don't think we've come close to seeing him reach his potential. He's been the victim of terrible play calling for his skill set. Put him in motion and use him like Puka in LA and he's going to light up the league. Give him room to work. He's dynamic. This is just a small example of what he can do (not that we don't know this). He's got a few more TDs on better placed passes too.

Lol Nick isn't the scapegoat but he's the only piece that hadn't been replaced besides Howie

So if they suck again then...

So, the Eagles win 26 games in a 31-game stretch and reach the Super Bowl = all the players

And, the Eagles lose 6 of 7 to end last season = all the head coach

Sounds a bit "scapegoat-ish" to me.

lol. 2 good balls. bunch of hospital balls and underthrows.

Smith is really good. I honestly dont think many eagles fans realize how good he is. There is so much more he is capable of that we just dont get to see.
