You’re telling me Schwartz planned to move to a press man defense, had Howie draft Jones and Douglas and trade for Darby and then just scrapped the whole thing all together?

Well no because not all of those players make sense for that kind of defense. There was a lot of turmoil in both the front office, and coaching staff turnover at that time. Rough time to be a GM for any team when that happens.

Solak likes Dadrion Demerson a lot for the Eagles at safety(if they take one) on day two.

Solak is correct on that one as well.

Ill still take him.

What's taking so long with the Isaiah Rodgers decision? You'd think having that information before the draft would be a huge help.

Because he bet on his own team and it’s a 2 year suspension.

Part of the problem is the veracity of the data.  It's not like anything that's reported on the internet is true.  These sites are often using handtimed double hearsay reports of physical performance.

Not to mention that not every prospect does every drill meaning it's rarely an apples to apples comparison. It's helpful data but treating it as dogma is silly.

What was the coaching staff turnover from 2017-2020 that would have affected Douglas’ time here? I don’t think front office turmoil is appropriate either. Howie is the one who hired Joe Douglas and was his direct boss. He also had final say.

You seriously think Howie hired someone to be his boss? This discussion has happened a million times now. You cant draft well when an idiot puts a horrible board for you to choose from.

So after the Smith contract we're still at around $29 million in cap space?  What's the next big deal/domino to happen?

Nothing. Eagles have given out a boat load of cash the past 2 months. They will just role over the space into next year.

He was suspended on july 1, likely for a year. So it's doubtful he will be reinstated before the draft.

GM, head coach, and QB are the three toughest jobs in football.  When the team is winning they get the bulk of the credit, and when things go wrong and lead to losses and lost seasons they get the bulk of the blame as well.  Even just last season Howie, Nick, and Hurts made plenty of mistakes to go around.

The roster construction was bad.  Most of Howie's FA acquisitions were either lousy or couldn't even keep their roster spots.  We'll see what 2024 brings for Nolan Smith and Tyler Steen but 2023 didn't bring much.  Those guys need to take a Year 2 jump for Howie to look better on those picks.  Barkley also need to pay immediate dividends.

Nick didn't manage his coaches well at all.  What was the point of giving Desai the DC job and immediately undercut him by bringing Patricia in?  Nick should have managed Patricia a lot better as well; no one should have believed trying to install a new defense (even partially) would be a good idea in Week 14.  Nick should have also taken over play calling on offense (IMO) from BJ before the SF and DAL games.

Hurts just wasn't right, even from Week 1 against the Patriots; he never looked close to the 2022 Hurts -- at least not to me.  If he was nursing something he should have taken a few weeks off to get right.  Easier said than done, but it would have been for the best.  I just don't think he was healthy at any point last year.

Yes, Howie hired Douglas and was Douglas’ boss. What are we doing here? Howie also is not drafting a player in round 1 without signing off on it, and he sure as hell isn’t drafting a corner off an Achilles just because Joe likes him.

I thought you were implying that Howie hired Douglas to be Howie's boss. Which is technically what happened, but that wasnt Howie's doing.

I would too. But his price gets lower by the day

Lol. No.

I've been a fan of Steen since he was a Bama. I liked the pick as well. I have full confidence in him. His only start was against the Cowgirls and he played really well against that front

The best part of this, HE, is that Howie is trying to take credit for Rasul Douglas, but apparently Joe Douglas should be taking credit for the pick.

yeah. so if you remember, when Douglas was hired it was talked about how Douglas had this unique ranking/grading process which he was bringing here and Howie was going to learn and use that method. So call Howie his boss if you want but thats extreme naivety when they also openly admitted that Howie and his staff were all going to adapt to use Joe Douglas' methods here. Joe was in charge of that whole draft scouting process. You can say Howie had final say. Maybe thats true. But he was anything but in charge.

The eagles also moved around much less in those drafts. Another clear indicator that Howie wasnt in charge. Howie always moves up and down all weekend. Joe made a board, and forced Howie to stick to it and make a pick.

So, Chip had Howie as GM. Brought in that idiot from Alabama to hold Howie's hand. Kicked Howie to the basement. Lurie brought Howie back to the football side of things but immediately hired Douglas to again, hold his hand. Drafts instantly improved as soon as Douglas was out of here.

You’d be the first person I’ve seen say he played well.

Douglas didn’t have a unique system. He brought over the Ravens’ system, which was in place for years. Yes, he was brought in to hold Howie’s hand, but Howie helped hire him. This wasn’t someone forced on him by Lurie.

The eagles called it unique. If the Ravens were the only team doing it, it was unique. Youll argue semantics now but thats how it was talked about. Joe Douglas was some genius from a model organization when it comes to scouting and he was bringing their revolutionary system here and Howie's system was no more. That was specifically explained in a press conference.

For that being his first start against a team that has a pretty good front. Allowed 0 sacks, had a run blocking grade of 66, and maybe the biggest surprise was 0 penalties. His pass blocking grade was terrible but not bad for his first and only start last season
