Reading more on Howie’s press conference… interesting that Howie said he felt good about how the first 25 picks or so will go. I doubt that means he is 25 first-round grades, but with 4-6 QBs expected to go round 1, he must think one of their first-round grades will still be there at 22, even in the worst case scenario that he discussed.

I think Burton has the skillet of a prime Odell Beckham. But I guess he may be even more of a headcase.

I wish we would get some stories.

9 inch skillet?  12 inch?   Stainless steel?   cast iron?   enameled?    What kind of skillet are we talking about here?  Maybe one of the new materials... copper?  Ceramic?

Cast iron with helper handle?  So many options!

Such a stupid rule, especially so given the league is sponsored by Fing draft kings and pushes gambling odds all the damn time. Bunch of hypocrites

And yet the NBA literally just banned a player for life for getting too involved in the gambling world.   There's too much at stake to let the appearance of foul play get out there.   There are rumblings of game fixing already...

It could be that he has 15 first round grades, and then after the first 10 second round grades there’s a talent drop

The Eagles could draft Trotter Jr.  Pair him with Nakobe and you've got two identical LBs.  The Two Deans -- just like The Two Ronnies:

:offtopic:

I never thought I'd see The Two Ronnies referenced in the blog. Very much of their time in terms of setup, but the writing was always really good. This is one of my favourite skits, simple, effective and shows how TV comedy has degraded over the years.

I understand they are about the same size, but Dean and Trotter are actually very different.

Zierlein on Dean:

Overview

Explosive, three-down linebacker with the demeanor and quickness to become a volume tackler while holding down third-down duties at a high level. Dean's play recognition is a work in progress, which limits reaction time and forces him to deal with more blockers than he'll see as he gains more experience. Quick feet and plus agility will bring him to ball-carriers at a high rate but a lack of size and length means he'll need to fine-tune his approach as a tackler to make sure he finishes what he starts. He might lack measurables, but he has the toughness and technique to see a boost in his performance once his play becomes more proactive.

Strengths

  • Explosive athlete with access to instant acceleration.
  • Piled up impact stats in the major categories.
  • Rarely voids gap by running around a block.
  • Fearless to attack and fit a gap with force.
  • Hand snap to meet and play off the blocker.
  • Agility and quickness for effective lateral flow.
  • Patrols with excellent track-down speed/range.
  • Runs through the ball-carrier.
  • Athletic ability to cover backs out of the backfield.
  • Feet to match man routes or burst to targets from zone.
  • Blitzes get home thanks to timing, burst and leverage.

Weaknesses

  • Built like a stocky back, lacking ideal size and length.
  • Instincts and play diagnosis are just average.
  • Triggers on an incomplete read.
  • Tardy response allows climbing blocks a chance.
  • Can be swallowed up when lingering on second level.
  • Traffic seems to find him in lateral pursuit.
  • Average stopping power and length as open-field tackler.
  • Inconsistent to body-up and finish.

Zierlein on Trotter Jr:

Overview

Inside linebacker who plays with dogged determination and a nose for the football that helps him pack out the stat sheet. Trotter comes from NFL bloodlines and operates with consistency, play strength and a willingness to do the dirty work. He’s quick to diagnose and moves with exceptional body control and footwork to play around bodies and get to the rock. He’s not very big or long, but his football IQ makes it a moot point. He has adequate pursuit speed with good short-area burst and real talent in getting to the quarterback as a blitzer. Trotter can get to the ball with clear eyes and above-average efficiency and has a chance to be a long-time starter in the league.

Strengths

  • NFL bloodlines and outstanding football IQ.
  • Plays with anticipation to mirror play development.
  • Talented in slipping blocks with no wasted motion.
  • Attacks blocks with force to spill runners wide or to set an edge outside.
  • Excellent body control and change of direction to maintain tackle potential.
  • Comes to balance and wraps up the runner with ideal target points.
  • Rare elusiveness and footwork creates high-end success as a blitzer.

Weaknesses

  • Lacking length and can be engulfed by blocker if he’s too static.
  • Chance-taking while running the alley can work against him.
  • Tape showed inconsistency with finding run fits against Notre Dame.
  • Loses track of coverage duties from zone.
  • Can be fooled by eye candy on play-action passes.

If anything, Trotter Jr is more like TJ Edwards. His instincts, not athleticism, help him excel. With Dean, it's the opposite.

I have been thinking about Andru Phillips and I feel like the eagles sniffing around him may be an indicator that they really like DeJean. Phillips, to me is a fallback plan if you miss on DeJean. Phillips is most likely a nickel guy in the NFL. Hes not the stickiest cover guy. Hes a physical nickel who will make heady plays in zones and offer strong run support from the position.

I sort of with the eagles were sniffing Bullard as well. He is that same player and maybe a little bitter than Phillips. I love what Daniel Jeremiah said about Bullard's football smarts and the way he studies the game.

Im watching The Athletic podcase now on youtube and theyre talking about Andru Phillips. Dane Brugler had him at 61 and wishes he had him higher. He lacks ideal size measurables but just competes. He stole a comp from a scout who said he reminds him of Roger McCreary. Thatd be a nice nickel. Brugler believes Phillips goes in round 2.

Thats a little rich for me. Id rather Bullard in round 2, and Phillips in round 3. Lets just hope they actually land DeJean so they get this guy with that skillset who actually does have the measurables you want too.

Kudos to Howie where he deserves it. DeVonta probably had a great case to want more money but both sides got it done. Quite the opposite of what we're seeing in Dallas with CeeDee Lamb and now this out of NY.

Not to defend the cowboys, but doesn't Lamb usually do his own thing during the voluntary workouts every year? That's what I read somewhere but always hard to tease out what's real and what's not.

With Howie, he could be trying to downplay the idea they want to trade up in order to keep the cost down.

thats really excellent. Only pick Id change is Myles Cole. He will get drafted on measurables because theyre just crazy good. Yet, he stinks. Hes a UDFA with 1st round measurables. I have almost no interest in actually using a pick on him.

Fair enough. I didn't have much I wanted in that spot so I looked for developmental line players.

Taking a LB with a 4th round grade in the 2nd! 11 out of 10 Howies

Colson is Brugler's LB1.

Agreed.  I think the 2015 first round nightmare will never leave them. They will identify the 20ish players they are willing to take and move up if necessary to get one.

Seattle is always trading down.  A move up to 16 for a tackle is right now the most likely outcome.

I am not sure why Slayton would hold out?

I'd want more money too if I had to go to that dumpster fire

Brugler also had a first round grade on Nakobe Dean.

New Jersey isn't all bad.

This is his QB...I'd demand a trade, not hold out.

I will be surprised when they do that because it just seems like they are definitely interested in a CB.  Maybe I am more like a goldfish fan.
