You pick such odd hills to die on

DeJean, who was consensus 1st team aa,  top ras CB, who is the consensus draft pick to the Eagles at 22, is a odd hill to die on?

People who have been paying attention to this draft pretty closely might very well take a liking to DeJean in the first, and wouldn't really want to trade up for someone else, and he might now require a trade up to get.  I'm not sure I'd want to trade up.  I also like Wiggins and Brian Thomas Jr at 22.  I like DeJean the most.  If the Eagles are thinking like me,  they might not be sure exactly how much better DeJean is than Wiggins, and how would Thomas compare.   Would they rather have DeJean or Wiggins and one of their 5ths this year?

If there was to be a trade up,  I would think it would be for DeJean, but I'm not sure that a trade up should be done.

I would think a trade up means edge rusher. Will Howie buck the 22 year trend of not drafting a first round RB with a trade up in the first? We'll see in a few days.

I can’t see any explanation or rationale in trading up for a ‘Swiss army knife’ player in DeJean when both Wiggins and McInstry are better outside CBs and will also likely be available at #22.  Not only would Howie be bucking a trend, he’d be spending a first round pick on a player who likely translates to safety/nickel in the NFL

I'd be ecstatic with DeJean at 22, and somewhat disappointed if we traded up and ended up with DeJean.

Pretty low chances the draft falls this way and we end up with both Fuaga and DeJean?

I think McKinstry is pretty underrated. He probably doesn’t have the upside of a top corner, but I think he can be good for a long time.

You drinking the beverage of choice about Kool-Aid?

The good news about him is that he played at UoA.  So, he'll come in pretty polished.   The bad news is that he likely won't get a whole lot better than what he comes in as.   In Round 2, I love it.   In Round 1... I want more upside.    He's a nice fall back option if higher upside players aren't available.

Monday morning of draft week!

In 3 days, Terrion Arnold will be an Eagle.

So.... who's the trade up target Thursday?

Latham.

He’s the only guy with the positional value (OT), immediate impact (OG), and unique upside to justify it IMO.

Not sure he’ll drop into the range where we could afford a trade up, but he’s the guy I think we might pull the trigger to get.

Ok, Mark Eckel.

Interesting. Versatility that could compete with Steen and could later kick out to replace Lane. Makes sense.

Who was it? Lecharles Bentley?

Whatever happened to Eckel anyway? Feel like that guy never recovered after the Bentley incident.

He retired. Poor guy got done dirty by Bentley’s camp.

Yup.  LeCharles Bentley.   Former OSU center, who decided he'd rather play closer to home.   But, then he got hurt almost immediately in Cleveland and just faded away.

Eckel?   I think he wrote for a NJ paper... Trenton Times maybe. But, also wrote for ESPN or USA Today as their Eagles' beat, iirc.  He faded away, too.   The print media is dying... and he has a face for radio, and a voice for silent films.    Not many avenues left for him.

It’s almost not worth mentioning since it’s standard protocol, but Schefter wrote today that the Eagles have been calling teams ahead of them to check the price of a trade up.

I love reading all the rumors even if they’re 95 percent BS.

He got bad information, for sure.   But, at the same time, no one forced him to start his article with the "By the time you read this... " line.  He could have presented it differently.  The clap back on him was more directed at the manner in which he presented the information, rather than the fact that it was so blatantly contradicted.  Then again, every appearance Eckel made on TV that I saw showed him as a smug, self-important individual.

For sure. He should have softened that lede up.

Schefter implies Eagles could get discipline for tampering. Made it clear Falcons will get hit

Tampering for who?

I think Howie thinks CB is harder to scout than other positions so all things equal he'd go with the safer pick at the other premium position. But it has been widely reported if Sauce Gardner, Derek Stingley, Pat Surtain, Jaycee Horn got within range of the Eagles, at least one of them would be an Eagle right now.

Agree.  I do think they have tiers of trade ups; who they will give up what for. I don't think CB, S or LB are treated in the same manner as OT, D, etc - and the scouting part and bust rate are very much on that scale.

The trade off with positions where there isn't a lot of depth, you end up where the team have been.  Scratching around with less talented or honed players, hoping that enough mud will stick on the wall. Or trading picks hoping that your pro scouting is good enough.

Do we know who all of the canceled visits were? I only remember Rice.

It would be interesting to know if we draft any of those guys.

How did he phrase it? We already know they’re getting investigated so the "could’ has been implied for awhile.
