Never should have let Jimmy leave... and never should have stuck with Simmons/Harris instead.

Meanwhile, Maxey is having himself a game... amid the illness.   Kid is growing up fast in front of our eyes.

Yup. I said when they made that Tobias harris trade that i hated it. It basically painted them into a corner and it was going to wind up being either Tobias Harris or Jimmy Butler. They weren’t bringing both of them back unless they won a title. And you knew they were going to go Tobias Harris because he was younger and had less baggage than Jimmy Butler. And less wear and tear. That off-season was a franchise altering type of bad for the Sixers. Not only did you go with Tobias Harris, You also signed Al Horford, who was absolute dog crap here. And you knew it was not a good match because of how the NBA is played nowadays. It was an awful fit. And that was the last time you were going to have significant cap space for a while.

Amazingly bad officiating.   Apparently you are allowed to mug guys late.

Really letting things go there, eh?

And ignoring the timeout call... but whatever, you know.   NYC and all that.

Bad play by Maxey there. Bad officiating as well

Just the perfect storm to piss away the game. That's sad. Lowry's missed free throws really hurt.

Broncos win.

Morey, the biggest fraud of a GM in sports.

Officiating implies that they actually did their job.

Sixers needed to get possession on the rebounds and FORCE the foul calls... but this officiating was piss poor all night.   Knicks played bully ball, and got away with it.  Officials were afraid to make the calls when it mattered.

They needed that game. Need both of the next 2 at home or its pretty much over.

Knicks likely get to move on for the honour of having the chance to be thumped by the Celtics in the EC finals.

I don’t complain about zebras, but that officiating tonight has me thinking of Tim Donaughy.

Sixers gave up 8 in 30 seconds... scoring 0.   That's not ok.

Did the Sixers just get outscored 8-0 in the last one minute of the game?

Last 30 seconds.

This series is over. 76ers don’t have the dog in them to come back.

Yep - had the game won and pissed it away, starting with Lowry missed FT

The refs haven't been calling sheet the whole second half of the season. The Celtics had the first game in history to not have a single free throw for an entire game

Always has been

They never had a shot to do anything meaningful with this roster as is. The drop off after Embiid/Maxey is way too far and you need at least 3 guys to win.

Before this game... I said this game would determine the series.  Knicks in 5 or less if they win.  Sixers in 6 if they win.

Looks like Knicks in 5 or less now.   That was a gut wrenching loss... and I agree... they don't have enough guys with the level of fight needed to come back from this one.   I believe that that dog lives in Lowry, Batum and Maxey.  Beyond those 3... I don't see it.

Well …. Lowry played 33 1/2 minutes, made two baskets all night, shot 50% from the free throw line, and contributed 3 assists …. as a starting point guard.

That’s actually hard to do.  Did he at least eat 6-7 hot dogs to make it look like he was involved in something?

Horrible ownership I hope he brings to DC as well

Yep.

Taking a step back though this was never going to be their year and was always a transition year. This became even more apparent first with the Embiid injury, and then with their big deadline acquisition Hield forgetting how to do the one thing he was very good at (shoot 3s).

Longer-term though this year was always about making sure two things happened:

1) Seeing whether Maxey can elevate his game to another level (crucial pre-requisite to also helping convince Embiid to not seek a trade this off-season)

2) Morey not stupidly giving up on Maxey for some older established player

Its a tick on both those factors. Cap is pretty much clear next year and we have some assets to seek out the right support players now.

The issue is I have no faith in Morey being able to execute on that plan.

If the bench isn't going to produce may as well give a bunch of minutes to council,  Dowtin, and even Terq Smith next game and see if they can light a spark.

Hahaha Sixers. What a soft team
