Nurse said he tried to get a timeout while Lowry had the ball under the net... before the ball was inbounded, and was ignored.   Said he saw it on tape.

Seems there should be a review by the NBA on the officials.  That had a drastic impact on the game.   Sixers up there allows for them to control the game and win the game on the foul line.  Advancing the ball with the timeout makes that way easier... and keeps the Sixers in control.   Not allowing the timeout played into the Knicks' bully ball and allowed them to capitalize on the game plan of mugging guys and daring the officials to make the calls.    But, I can't figure out why for the life of me that Nurse was denied the timeout.

Well …. Lowry played 33 1/2 minutes, made two baskets all night, shot 50% from the free throw line, and contributed 3 assists …. as a starting point guard.

That’s actually hard to do.  Did he at least eat 6-7 hot dogs to make it look like he was involved in something?

He was better than Harris.

34 / 10 / 6

35  9 / 10

Slash lines from the two stars....and they still lose

Just saw the replay... Nurse DID call timeout while LOWRY had the ball BEFORE inbounding the ball.   That needs to be called.  Also clearly calling timeout while Maxey was on the floor after the inbound.

Timeout should have been awarded... ball moves to the front court, and they have time to set a play.

Is he really calling a TO?

This goes to the issue i said after game 1, if you are expecting Lowry to play 32-38 mins and score 18 points then you are in trouble. Playing him that many mins he is eventually going to get worse as the series continues onward cause he’s 38. So someone needed to step up and no one did. Frankly if hield is gonna be as bad as he is then might as well play cam Payne and see and hope he has a shake melton type game in him.

unfortunate they don’t have Roco or melton. Not that they are world beaters but they give you more options then just hield, Payne to try and make up for Lowry inevitable decline as the series continued.

also fact Tobias making $38 mil and averaging 8.5 ppg doesn’t help. If you get 2-3 players that are solid that’s likely getting and giving you more than just Tobias. Problem with Harris is a good player on a bad team and on a team that wants to win a title is likely 5th option or comes off the bench.

Saw an interview today that John Clark did with Daniel Jeremiah.  He asked DJ to make a guess on what the Eagles will do in the first round.  He chose trade up with SEA at #16 to get in front of JAX, and they would select Terrion Arnold.

He puts the odds at 70% trade up, 30% trade back.  Says zero percent chance Howie sticks and picks at #22.  Also mentioned Kool-Aid McInstry as a somewhat likely pick.

He mentioned if you want good intel on what a team’s draft plans are then call the schools, talk to the coaches and ask what teams have been calling on their players.  He says from his conversations with the coaches, the Eagles have been doing a ton of work on the CBs.

Everything points to a trade up with Seattle. Howie notoriously trades up for targets while Seattle notoriously trades down. Like he said, Jacksonville at 17 is a prime corner team.

Yup.  I guess that trade might resemble the Eagles giving #22 and 50 in exchange for #16 and 81, or similar.

Jeremiah was asked if the Eagles could take an OT at #22; he thinks the top 6 guys will be gone by then.  When he looks at the top half of the first round he sees lots of teams needing OL help.

NBA's last crap on the Sixers.  they were never going to let the process win a championship.

I don’t complain about zebras, but that officiating tonight has me thinking of Tim Donaughy.

I was saying to schmoopie as that time out wave off was happening: This feels like game 6 of the 2002 western conference finals.

Donaughy wasn't a ref for that game, but he pointed to that one as an example of a fixed game.

Yes.  Repeating it doesn't change the fact that this team has built horribly.  And as long as that is the case, this team is doomed to repeat the failures of the past.

That would make me happy.  Still don't see it, but I'm there to be proven wrong as always

Series isn't over.  I could see the Sixers getting to 2-2 at home.  Nonetheless, Nurse should have run onto the court after the Brunson 3 screaming for a time out.  He didn't.  He can complain all he wants but if he really wanted the timeout after the Brunson make he knows what he had to do.

Hield is a wallflower on offense.  Not worth the picks we sent to Indiana.

Yep.

Taking a step back though this was never going to be their year and was always a transition year. This became even more apparent first with the Embiid injury, and then with their big deadline acquisition Hield forgetting how to do the one thing he was very good at (shoot 3s).

Longer-term though this year was always about making sure two things happened:

1) Seeing whether Maxey can elevate his game to another level (crucial pre-requisite to also helping convince Embiid to not seek a trade this off-season)

2) Morey not stupidly giving up on Maxey for some older established player

Its a tick on both those factors. Cap is pretty much clear next year and we have some assets to seek out the right support players now.

The issue is I have no faith in Morey being able to execute on that plan.

He'll do something like sign George instead of buildling an athletic bench.

And give away some more 1st rd picks and doom this franchise for a decade.

Yeah, he is stuck in the 2015 NBA.  Get the big 3, fill in with side salads.

After talking with my uncle (who always wants to draft Oline in the first and quotes Knuke Rockne's football is a game of blocking amd tackling so frequently I told him last night I'm having it put on his grave stone), I am locked in on CB in the 1st.  Arnold, Mitchell, DeJean, Wiggins, McKinstry are all suitable.   Trade up for Arnold or Mitchell will likely be necessary, stay put or maybe even a small trade back for the others.   I'm not keen on giving up one of our 2nds to move up as I think getting 3 of the following  CB/OL/LB/WR in the top 53 would be an excellent draft.

I'd prefer CB/LB for sure but the LB group is thin, so other positions are more likely.

Not sure Arnold is much better than Wiggins who should be available at 22 , he definitely isn't enough better to make it worth giving up a second.

His size is much better though

I agree; Wiggins is my top choice for #22 .... but after SEA it starts to get into a run of teams where CBs could be coming off the board.  JAX, PIT, not sure about MIA.  I want no part of DeJean in the first round, so is McInstry a good enough prospect at #22 if you lose out on Wiggins to PIT, for example?

If CB is the top of Howie's wish list he might have to hope guys like Penix, Mims, and a couple of wildcards go before #22 (Chop, Thomas, Nix?)
